A Study on the Coloration of the $Nd_2O_3$ Containing Glass by X-ray Irradiation ($Nd_2O_3$ 함유 유리의 X-선조사에 따른 변색에 관한 연구)

  • The coloration of the $Nd_2O_3$ contained $R_2O-BaO-SrO-ZrO_2-SiO_2$ glass added the various amount of $CeO_2$ $MnO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$ and $As_2O_3$ alone or together by the irradiation of X-ray irradiation,. The glasses added $CeO_2$ in proportion to amount were more effective on preventing coloration by X-ray irradiation but the addition of $MnO_2$ produced different color according to the amount of addition. The addition of the $Fe_2O_3$, $TiO_2$ and $As_2O_3$ did not give much effects to the transmission changes of $Nd_2O_3$ contained glass by X-ray irradiation but the glass added $CeO_2$ , $Fe_2O_3$, $TiO_2$ together was most effective to prevent coloration and transmisson changes.

  • A series of Fe/CeO$_2$/Fe$_{75}$Co$_{25}$ tunnel junctions (Magnetic Tunnel Junction, MTJ) having CeO$_2$ barrier layers from 30 to 90$\AA$ in thickness were prepared by ion beam sputtering (IBS) method. In order to compare the properties of MTJs, Fe/Al oxide/Fe-Co tunnel junctions were also prepared. Some junctions with a CeO$_2$ barrier layer showed the ferromagnetic tunneling effect and the highest MR ratio at room temperature was 5%. The electric resistance of junctions with a CeO$_2$ barrier layer was higher that that of junctions with an Al oxide barrier. On the other hand, The interface analysis of the Fe/CeO$_2$ bilayer was conducted by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It was found that CeO$_2$ was decomposed to Ce and $O_2$ during sputtering, and Fe was oxidized with these decomposed $O_2$ molecules. The reduction of both electric resistance and MR ratio may be associated with the decomposed Ce in the barrier layer.r.r.

  • Methane activation through oxychlorination is in the spotlight due to the relatively mild reaction conditions at atmospheric pressure and in the temperature range of $450-550^{\circ}C$. Although $CeO_2$ is known to exhibit good activity for methane oxychlorination, significant amounts of by-products such as $CO_2$, CO and carbon deposits are produced during the reaction over $CeO_2$. We investigated the effect of iron in $FeO_x/CeO_2$ catalysts on methane oxychlorination. $FeO_x/CeO_2$ with 3 wt% iron shows the maximum yield at $510^{\circ}C$ with 23% conversion of methane and 65% selectivity of chloromethane. XRD and $H_2$ TPR results indicate that iron-cerium solid solution was formed, resulting in the production of more easily reduced cerium oxide and the suppression of catalysts sintering during the reaction. Furthermore, the selectivity of by-products decreased more significantly over $FeO_x/CeO_2$ than cerium oxide, which can be attributed to the facilitation of HCl oxidation arising from the enhanced reducibility of the former sample.

  • The effects of the various amount of $CeO_2$ $MnO_2$ and $Fe_2O_3$ added to the high lead-silicate glasses on the X-ray induced coloration were studied. The light transmissions and chromaticities of the glasses before and after exposing to X-ray radiation were measured to investigate the effects by additivies. The results are as follows ; 1. High lead-silicate glass added $CeO_2$ or $MnO_2$ has a little effect on the transmission but has a considerable effect on the chromaticity. The chromaticies of 56.6wt% PbO content glasses were changed as 3-7 times as those of 28.3wt% PbO content glasses. 2. By the X-ray irradiation glasses containing 0.2-0.5wt% $CeO_2$ were changed the least in chromaticity that is the most effective in preventing the X-ray induced coloration. 3. By X-ray irradiation $MnO_2$ reduced the transmissions and showed purple coloration. 4. Transmission change amounts of the glasses added $CeO_2$ and $Fe_2O_3$ were less than those of the glasses added $CeO_2$ alone by X-ray irradiation.

  • Ceria ($CeO_2$) is a rare earth oxide, which has been widely investigated to improve the property. It is important to increase the surface area of $CeO_2$, because high surface area of $CeO_2$ can improve the catalytic ability. $CeO_2$ nanoparticles were synthesized by a solvothermal process. A discussion on the influence of solvent ratio and precursors on $CeO_2$ nanoparticles was performed. The size and degree of the agglomeration of the synthesized $CeO_2$ could be tuned by controlling those parameters. The average size and distribution of prepared $CeO_2$ powders was in the range of 3 to 13 nm and narrow, respectively. The XRD pattern showed that the synthesized $CeO_2$ powders were crystalline with cubic phase of $CeO_2$. The average particle size was calculated by Scherrer equation and FE-TEM images. The morphology of the synthesized $CeO_2$ particle was objected using FE-TEM and FE-SEM. Specific surface area of the synthesized $CeO_2$ was determined using BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) equation.

산화철 폐촉매를 사용한 NiZn-페라이트웨 합성 및 자기적 특성

  • 산업 폐기물로서 전량 매립되고 있는 styrene monomer (SM) 공정에서 발생되는 산화철 폐촉매를 사용하여 NiZn-페라이트를 합성하였고, 그 자기적 특성을 조사하였다. 평균입경 0.5㎛로 미분쇄된 산화철 폐촉매에 NiO 및 ZnO를 혼합하여 900℃에서 하소한후 1230℃에서 5시간 동안 소결하여 스핀넬형 페라이트 소결체를 얻었다. Ni/sub x/Zn/ub 1-x/Fe₂O₄(x=0.36, 0.50, 0.66) 및 (Ni/sub 0.5/Zn/sub 0.5/)/sub 1-y/Fe/sub 2+y/O₄(y=-0.02, 0, 0.02) 조성에 대하여 초투자율을 측정하였다. S-parameter를 측정하여 반사 감쇄량을 계산하였다. Ni/sub 0.5/Zn/sub 0.5/fe₂O₄ 조성의 경우 밀도 5.38 g/㎤ kHz에서의 초투자율이 59인 특성을 얻었다. 산화철 폐촉매를 이용하여 X-band 주파수 영역에서 높은 전자파 흡수능을 갖는 전파흡수체를 제조할 수 있음을 확인하였다. Ni/sub 0.5/Zn/sub 0.5/Fe₂O₄ 조성에 대하여 1100℃에서 하소한 분말을 사용하여 실리콘 고무에 복합시킨 후 전파흡수능을 측정하였다. 폐촉매에는 산화철 이외에 CeO₂가 주된 첨가물로 함유되어 있어서 페라이트의 합성 후에도 2차상으로서 존재하였다. 출발 원료인 산화철 폐촉매에 존재하는 K₂O 및 CeO₂를 제거하기 위하여 산처리와 분산제를 이용한 CeO₂ 분리과정을 행하였다. 정제된 산화철 폐촉매에 NiO 및 ZnO를 혼합하여 900℃에서 하소하여 스핀넬형 페라이트를 합성하고 1325℃에서 5시간 소결하였다. 위와 마찬가지로 Ni/sub x/Zn/sub 1-x/Fe₂O₄(x=0.36, 0.50, 0.66)과 (Ni/sub 0.5/Zn/sub 0.5/)/sub 1-y/Fe/sub 2+y/O₄(y=-0.02, 0, 0.02) 조성에 대하여 자기적 특성을 조사하였다.화된 중성자빔으로 측정하였다 BPC-Si를 구부려 슬랩의 곡률반경을 변화시키면서 단색기-시료-검출기가 평행파 반평행배치일 때 Cu(111), (200), (220), (311), (331), (420)면의 회절선을 측정하여 각 조건에서 분해능과 강도를 평가하였다.료의 가시적 변화를 통해 illumination angle 1.25mrad(Dose rate : 334 × 10³ e/sup -//sec·n㎡)일 경우 약 3초 이내에 비정질화가 시작됨을 알 수 있었고 이는 약 1 × 10/sup 6/ e/sup -//sec·n㎡ 의 전자선량에 해당되며 이를 기준으로 각각의 illumination angle에 대한 임계전자선량을 평가할 수 있었다. 실질적으로 Cibbsite와 같은 무기수화물의 직접가열실험 시 전자빔 조사에 의해 야기되는 상전이 영향을 배제하고 실험을 수행하려면 illumination angle 0.2mrad (Dose rate : 8000 e/sup -//sec·n㎡)이하로 관찰하고 기록되어야 함을 본 자료로부터 알 수 있었다.운동횟수에 의한 영향으로써 운동시간을 1일 6시간으로 설정하여, 운동횟수를 결정하기 위하여 오전, 오후에 각 3시간씩 운동시키는 방법과 오전부터 6시간동안 운동시키는 두 방법을 이용하여 품질을 비교하였다. 각 조건에 따라 운동시킨 참돔의 수분함량을 나타낸 것으로, 2회(오전 3시간, 오후 3시간)에 나누어서 운동시키기 위한 육의 수분함량은 73.37±2.02%를 나타냈으며, 1회(6시간 운동)운동시키기 위한 육은 71.74±1.66%을 나타내었다. 각각의 운동조건에서 양식된 참돔은 사육초기에는 큰 변화가 없었으나, 사육 5일 이후에는 수분함량이 증가하여 15일에는 76.40±0.14, 75.62±0.98%의 수분함량을 2회와 1회 운동시킨 참돔의 육에서 각각 나타났다. 운동횟수에 따른 지질함량은 2회 운동시킨 참돔은 5.83±2.08, 1회 운

  • Compounds of $Y_{3-x}Ce_{x}Fe{5}O_{12}$(x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) were prepared using the sol-gel method. The XRD measurements show that these samples have only a single phase of the garnet structure regardless of the amount of Ce substitution. The lattice constants of x = 0.0 and x = 0.3 were found to be a$_0$ = 12.3758 ${\pm}$0.0005 ${\AA}$ and 12.4062 ${\pm}$0.0005 ${\AA}$, respectively. The lattice constant increases linearly with increasing Ce concentration. The saturation magnetization was not changed flirty, with increasing Ce concentration, but coercivity decreased form 18.3 Oe to 5.8 Oe as x increased form x = 0.0 to x = 0.1. Mossbauer spectra of $Y_{3-x}Ce_{x}Fe{5}O_{12}$ were measured at various absorber temperatures from 13 K to Neel temperature. The Mossbauer spectra were fitted by least-squares technique with two subpatterns of Fe sites in the structure and corresponding to the 16a and 24d site. The temperature dependence of the magnetic hyperfine field in $^{57}$/Fe nuclei at the tetrahedral 240 and octahedral 16a sites were analyzed based on the Neel theory of ferrirnagnetism. The result of the Debye temperatures indicated that the inter-atomic binding force for the 24d site was larger than that for the 16a site.

Preparation of SiO2-CuO-CeO2 Composite Powders and Its Thin Film Templated with Oxalic Acid

  • Silica-based ceramic-matrix composites have shown promise as advanced materials for many applications such as chemical catalysts, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, and electronics. $SiO_2$-CuO-$CeO_2$ multi-component powders and their thin film, using an oxalic acid template as a chelating agent, have larger surface areas and more uniform pore size distribution than those of inorganic acid catalysts. $SiO_2$-CuO-$CeO_2$ composite powders were synthesized using tetraethylorthosilicate, copper (II) nitrate hemi (pentahydrate), and cerium (III) nitrate hexahydrate with oxalic acid as template or pore-forming agent. The process of thermal evolution, the phase composition, and the surface morphology of these powders were monitored by thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDXS). The mesoporous property of the powders was observed by Brunner-Emmett-Teller surface (BET) analysis. The improved surface area of this powder template with oxalic acid was $371.4m^2/g$. This multi-component thin film on stainless-steel was prepared by sol-gel dip coating with no cracks.

  • The effects of variation in composition and the addition of small amount of the rare-earth oxides La2O3, CeO2 and Sm2O3 on the magnetic properties of Mn-Zn system ferrites, 0.5MnO.0.5ZnO.(1+0.1X) Fe2O3(X=-1, 0, 1, 2), were investigated in the range of frequencies of 0.1~100 kHz. It was shown that the magnetic permeability of the specimens with the composition Mn 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe2O4 was maximum in the Mn-Zn system ferrites, and that the addition of a small amount of the rare-earth oxides to the composition 0.5 MnO.0.5ZnO.0.9 Fe2O3 caused the sharp increase of magnetic permeability and the decrease of the loss factors.

Synthesis and electrochemical characterization of nano structure $CeO_2$ (나노 구조의 $CeO_2$ 합성과 전기화학적 특성 분석)

  • $CeO_2$는 고체 산화물 연료전지 (SOFC, soild oxide fuel cell)의 전해질 재료와 CMP(Chemical Mechanical Polishing) 슬러리 재료, 자동차의 3원 촉매, gas sensor, UV absorbent등 여러 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 위의 활용범위 외에 $CeO_2$의 구조적 안정성과 빠른 $Ce^{3+}/Ce^{4+}$의 전환 특성을 이용하여 lithium ion battery의 anode 재료로서 전기화학적 특성을 알아보고자 실험을 실시하였다. $CeO_2$ 합성에 사용되는 전구체인 cerium carbonate의 형상 및 크기, 비표면적과 같은 물리화학적 특성이 $CeO_2$ 분말의 특성에 직접적인 영향을 주기 때문에 전구체의 합성 단계에서 입자의 특성을 조절하였다. 전구체 합성의 출발원료로 cerium nitrate hexahydrate 와 ammonium carbonate를 사용하였고 반응온도 및 농도 등을 변화시켜 입자의 형상 및 결정상을 fiber형태의 orthorombic $Ce_2O(CO_3)_2{\cdot}H_2O$와 구형의 hexagonal $CeCO_3OH$의 세리아 전구체를 합성하였다. 이를 $300^{\circ}C$에서 30분 동안 하소하여 전구체의 입자형상을 유지하는 cubic $CeO_2$를 합성하고 X-ray diffraction, FE-SEM, micropore physisorption analyzer 분석을 통하여 입자의 결정상과 형상, 비표면적 등을 비교 분석하고 $Li/CeO_2$ couple의 충,방전 용량과 수명특성을 비교 분석하여 $CeO_2$의 전기화학적 특성을 알아보았다.
