Combined phase transformation and heat transfer was considered on the simulation of hot press forming process, using material properties modeler, $JMatPro^{(R)}$ and a finite element package, $DEFORM^{TM}$-HT. In order to obtain high temperature mechanical properties and flow curves for different phases, a material properties modeler, $JMatPro^{(R)}$ was used, avoiding expensive and extensive high temperature materials tests. The results successfully show that the strength of hot press forming parts may exhibit different strength in the same parts, depending on the contact of blank with tooling. It was also shown effectively that the strength of the parts can be controlled by designing appropriate cooling paths and coolants. This was shown in terms of different heat convection coefficient in the calculation. Overall, current combination of software was shown to be an effective tool for the tool and process design of hot forming process, although the material modeler needs to be additionally verified by an appropriate set of high temperature materials test.
Transition Nozzles are used in industrial air-cooled heat exchangers and widely used in industrial sites as an important component in the heat energy transfer between a heat source and an actuating fluid. There is a worldwide demand for transition nozzles with various materials and shapes, depending on the use environment. This paper aims to improve the transition nozzle forging process suitable for the production of many varieties using Steps 1 to 6 of the TRIZ Methodology for Problem Solving. By utilizing the TRIZ Methodology, this study derives a method to design a variable mold, which is more efficient and can reduce costs compared with having to use several molds. To verify the suitability of the methods derived using the TRIZ technique, a forging analysis is performed on a transition nozzle using DEFORMⓇ, a commercial program for plasticity analysis, and the nozzle material is evaluated for damage as a result of deformation of the transition nozzle thickness. The derived methods can be applied to transition nozzle formation equipment to improve the efficiency of the formation process.
There are about 10 motors for tile actuator of the automation system in an auto-mobile recently. The performance of the motor-case is much related to the noise and the vibration of an auto-mobile Multi-Forming process is so much the better than existing deep-drawing or Multi-step forming by press by less cost, installation and staff. But there isn't the specific and general process design, so we aren't good at competition. So in the first step, I want to study about the core design for the multi-forming process. We can access by the elasto-plastic theory and the finite element method, and we use a commercial package of the Deform-2D and, Deform-3D which is based on three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element, evaluated propriety oi the package. The evaluation of the package propriety was simulated by simple bending example. It was found the elasto-plastic theory was mostly in agreement with the simulation. We proposed that three type of section for the core and analyzed by finite element method (Deform-2D). We can get the best result with the ellipse type core. Then we apply the result of the preceding analysis to the finite element method (Deform-3D). In 3D-finite element analysis, we can get the result of 8/100mm-roundness. This result can help the improvement of the multi-forming process.

At room temperature, metallic glasses deform inhomogeneously by strain localization into narrow bands as a result of yielding due to an external force. When shear bands are generated during deformation, often nanocrystals form at the shear bands. Experimental results on the deformation of bulk metallic glass in the current study suggest that the occurrence of nanocrystallization at a shear band implies the loading condition that induces deformation is more triaxial in nature than uniaxial. Under a compressive stress state, the geometrical constraint strain imposed by the stress triaxiality plays a crucial role in the deformation-induced nanocrystallization at the shear bands.
Metal flow of the beam blank during H-beam rolling was examined in order to correlate the rolling defects with the beam blank configuration. For this purpose, H-beam rolling was performed on the beam blank where stainless steel bolts were inserted as the marker at the web and flange. The positional variation of the marker was monitored at each rolling pass, and the result was compared with the 3D FEM simulation employing the point tracking function. The simulation results were reasonably agreed with the experimental within the error of 0.5~1mm on both web and flange of the H-beam. It is anticipated that the 3D FEM simulation employing the point tracking function provides the guidance information on analyzing the correlation between the rolling defects and the beam blank configuration in H-beam rolling.
Current seismic design provisions allow structures to deform into inelastic range during design level earthquakes since the chance to meet such event is quite rare. For this purpose, design base shear is defined in current seismic design provisions as the value of elastic seismic shear force divided by strength reduction factor, R (${\geq}1$). Strength reduction factor generally consists of four different factors, which can account for ductility capacity, overstrength, damping, and redundancy inherent in structures respectively. In this study, R factor is assumed to account for only the ductility rather than overstrength, damping, and redundancy. The R factor considering ductility is called "ductility factor" ($R_{\mu}$). This study proposes ductility factor with correction factor, C, which can account for dynamic P-${\Delta}$ effect. Correction factor, C is established as the functional form since it requires computational efforts and time for calculating this factor. From the statistical study using the results of nonlinear dynamic analysis for 40 earthquake ground motions (EQGM) it is shown that the dependence of C factor on structural period is weak, whereas C factor is strongly dependant on the change of ductility ratio and stability coefficient. To propose the functional form of C factor statistical study is carried out using 79,920 nonlinear dynamic analysis results for different combination of parameters and 40 EQGM.
Sheet metal formability can be defined as the ability of metal to deform without necking or fracture into desired shape. Every sheet metal can be deformed without failure only up to a certain limit, which is normally known as forming limit curve(FLC). In this paper, the dome stretching tests and tensile tests have been performed to obtain forming limit curve of aluminum alloy. During the experiment, failure strain is measured using digital image correlation(DIC) method. DIC method is a whole-field measurement technique that acquires surface displacements and strains from images information which characterized a random speckle as intensity grey levels. Recently years, this DIC method is being developed and used increasingly in various research. DIC results demonstrated the usefulness and ability to determine a strain.
Copper bus-bar is made by drawing process and used in many part of industry. When design drawing die for copper bus-bar, design factor is focused on the deformation of die-land by drawing force and shrink fit. In this paper, to determine shrink fit value is analyzed by automatic shrink fit analysis program, APDL/UIDL language in a commercial FEM package, ANSYS, has been developed that enables optimal design of the dies taking into account the elastic deflections generated in shrink fitting the die inserts and that caused by the stresses generated in the process and by using DEFORM software for drawing process analysis. This data can be processed as load input data for a finite element die-stress analysis. Process simulation and stress analysis are thus combined during the drawing die design. The stress analysis of the dies is used to determine optimized dimension of die-land.
Some trials to simulate the spinning process by which V-belt pulley is usually being manufactured are done in this study. 2D finite element analysis (FEA) for the whole process to produce a mono-typed pulley including preforming, 1st spinning, axial compression and 2nd spinning processes is carried out using the commercial code $DEFORM2D^{TM}$. The sectional shape after each process is compared with that of real product. The deformed shape obtained from the FEA, on the whole, coincides with the experimental result well, but the thickness around the bottom of the V-groove is somewhat different each other.
