CeO2안정화 정방정 Zirconia 다결정체(Ce-TZP)에 관한 연구(III) : Ce-TZP의 기계적성질 및 미세조직에 미치는 Al2O3첨가의 영향 (A Study on the Ceria Stabilized Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystals(Ce-TZP)(III) : Effect of Al2O3 Addition on the Mechanical Properities and Microstructures of Ce-TZP)

  • Effect of Al2O3 addition on the mechanical properties and microstructure of Ce-TZP were studied. 12, 14, 16Ce-TZP containing 0-40wt% Al2O3 were prepared by sintering at 155$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h. in air. Density, linear shrinkage, bending strength, Vickers hardness, microstructuer and the amount of stress induced phase transformation were examined. Vickers hardness increased linearly with increasing amounts of Al2O3. The amount of transformation and fracture toughness decreased linearly with increasing amount of Al2O3. Linear shrinkage and relative density decreased with increasing Al2O3 content in all composition of Ce-TZP. Grain growth of Ce-TZP was inhibited by Al2O3 dispersion and fracture mode of Ce-TZP/Al2O3 composites transformed from intergranular to transgranular fracture as the amount of Al2O3 increased. TEM observation revealed that Al2O3 particles were located mainly at grain boundaries of ZrO2.

  • For theinvestigation of MgO addition effect on 12Ce-TZP ceramics, MgO-CeO2-ZrO2 ceramics was fabricated using commercial powders under sintering condition of 130$0^{\circ}C$-1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2hr. Fully tetragonal phase could be obtained by proper heat treatment and MgO addition amount. Minor cubic phase was appeared in relatively high MgO content composition at each sintering temperature. As alloying amount of MgO increased, tetragonal stability increased and grain size decreased. Grain size dependence on MgO content was verified by SEM observation of fractured surface. Surface bloating was observed from the 2 m/o to 6m/o in the temperature range of 150$0^{\circ}C$ to 1$600^{\circ}C$. In spite of very porous microstructure owing to surface bloating, 100% TZP could be maintained in 2.0m/o MgO composition by heat treatment of 150$0^{\circ}C$. This result indicated that MgO was more powerful stabilizer than CeO2. Mechanical proprties of MgO-CeO2-ZrO2 ceramics were consistent with the stability observation of tetragonal phase very well.

  • The high-temperature strength of Ce-TZP was measured at 200, 650 and 100$0^{\circ}C$ by 4-point bending test. And its fracture behavior was observed by SEM. Below $650^{\circ}C$ of the temperature, where monoclinic fraction was almost zero, the decreasing rate of bending strength was relatively slow, but above this temperature, high temperature strength was largely decreased as a result of the decrease of stress-induced transformation of zirconia. The observation of fracture surface bended at 100$0^{\circ}C$ indicated that the fracture mode changed from intergranular-into transgranular-form with regardless of ceria contents.

  • 고정층반응기에서 니켈이 치환된 하이드로탈사이트($Ni_3Mg_3Al_2(CO_3)(OH)_{{16}{\cdot}n}H_2O$ ; n=3$\sim$5)를 합성하고 여기에 세리아를 첨가 후 소성하여 얻은 촉매를 사용하여($Ce_xNi_3$-HTlc ; x=0.3$\sim$1.2) 메탄의 부분산화 반응실험을 수행하였다. 세리아가 첨가되지 않은 촉매는 반응 초기 활성이 세리가가 소량 첨가된 ($Ce_{0.3}Ni_3$-HTlc) 촉매보다 우수하였으나 장시간 반응에서는 차차 활성이 저하되었으나, $Ce_{0.3}Ni_3$-HTlc의 활성은 30시간까지 일정하게 유지 되었다. 세리아 함량이 많아 질수록 촉매 활성은 점차 저하되었으며, $Ce_{1.2}Ni_3$-HTlc 는 촉매활성이 매우 낮았다.

  • CL-SPEEK/Cs-TPA/$CeO_2$ composite membrane was prepared for polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). In order to improve the electrochemical, mechanical, durabilities and electrocatalytic characteristics, engineering plastic of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) as polymer matrix was sulfonated and the organic-inorganic blend composite membranes was prepared by loading cesium-substituted tungstophosphoric acid (Cs-TPA) by titration method with cross-linking agent contents of 0.01mL. Ceria ($CeO_2$) was used to scavenge free radicals which attack the membrane in the PEMWE circumstance and to increase the duration of the membrane. CL-SPEEK/$Cs_{(1)}$-TPA/CeriaIn conclusion, 1% membrane showed the optimum results such as 0.119 S/cm at $80^{\circ}C$ of proton conductivity and 62MPa of tensile strength.

  • [ $Bi_xCe_{l-x}O_{2-x/2}$ ](BD C : Bismuth Doped Ceria) powders with x = 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 were synthesized using the Glycine Nitrate Process (GNP). They were then calcined at $500^{\circ}C$ for 2 hand sintered in a pellet or rod form at 900, 1000 or $1100^{\circ}C$ for 4 h for characterization as the alternative electrolyte material for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells. The BDC powder consisted of a single phase of $CeO_2-Bi_2O_3$ solid solution in the as-synthesized state as well as in the as-calcined state with a mean powder size of 4.5nm in the former state and 6.5 - 10.1nm in the latter. On the contrary, the second phase of $\alpha-Bi_2O_3$ was observed to have been formed in the sinter with its amount increasing roughly with increasing temperature or $Bi_2O_3$ content. The BOC powder was superior in sinterability to other alternative electrolyte materials such as GDC, ScSZ, and LSGM with the minimum sintering temperature for a relative density of $95\%$ or larger as low as $1100^{\circ}C$. The ionic conductivity of BOC increased with $Bi_2O_3$ content and the maximum value of 0.119 S/cm was obtained at $800^{\circ}C$ for $Bi_{0.3}Ce_{0.7}O_{1.85}$.

  • Modified inert gas condensation method was used to produce the nanocluster composites of $CuO/CeO_2$. High-resolution TEM, SEM and catalytic measurements have been used to characterize the samples and study the synergistic effect between the CuO phase and $CeO_2$(ceria) support. By varying the He pressure, the heating temperature and configuration of the heating boats inside the modified gas condensation chamber, nanoclusters of varying sizes, shapes and composition can be produced. The composition and nanostructured morphology were shown to influence the catalytic properties of the system. A copper content around 10 at% with a morphology that favors high-energy surfaces of ceria is shown to be beneficial for a high catalytic activity.

  • Partail oxidation(POX) of n-butane was investigated in this research by employing ceria-promoted Ni/calcium hydroxyapatite catalysts ($Ce_xNi_{2.5}Ca_{10}(OH)_2(PO_4)_6$ ; x = $0.1{\sim}0.3$) which had recently been reported to exhibit good catalytic performance in POX of methane and propane. The experiments were carried out with changing ceria content, $O_2/n-C_4H_{10}$ ratio and temperature. As the $O_2/n-C_4H_{10}$ feed ratio increased up to 2.75, n-$C_4H_{10}$ conversion and $H_2$ yield increased and the selectivity of methane and other hydrocarbons decreased. But with $O_2/n-C_4H_{10}$ = 3.0, $n-C_4H_{10}$ conversion and $H_2$ yield decreased. This is considered due to that too much oxygen may inhibit the reduction of Ni or induce the oxidation of Ni, which results in poor catalytic activity. The optimum $O_2/n-C_4H_{10}$ ratio lay between 2.50 and 2.75. $Ce_{0.1}Ni_{2.5}Ca_{10}(OH)_2(PO_4)_6$ showed the highest $n-C_4H_{10}$ conversion and $H-2$ yield on the whole. In durability tests, higher hydrogen yield and better catalyst stability were obtained with the $O_2/n-C_4H_{10}$ ratio of 2.75 than with the ratio of 2.5.

  • For the c-axis oriented epitaxial YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ thin film on r-cut sapphire substrate it is necessary to deposit buffer layers. The CeO$_2$buffer layer was deposited on sapphire substrate using RF magnetron sputtering system. We investigated XRD pattern of CeO$_2$thin films at various sputtering conditions such as sputtering gas ratio, sputtering power, target to substrate distance, sputtering pressure and substrate temperature. The optimum condition was 15 mTorr with deposition pressure, 1:1.2 with $O_2$and Ar ratio and 9cm with target to substrate distance. The CeO$_2$(200) peak was notable for a deposition temperature above 75$0^{\circ}C$. The YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$ was deposited on CeO$_2$buffered r-cut sapphire substrate using pulsed laser ablation. The YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-{\delta}}$CeO$_2$(200)/A1$_2$O$_3$thin film was exhibited a critical temperature of 89K.xhibited a critical temperature of 89K.

Dependence of Phase Stability of Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal on Dopants

  • The effect of aliovalent dopants, $ Nb_2O_5$ and MnO, on the phase stability of 12 mol% ceria partially-stabilized zirconia (Ce-TZP) polycrystals was studied. Both dopants (MnO and $ Nb_2O_5$) significantly increased the stability of the tetragonal zirconia phase (Mb temperature lower than liquid nitrogen temperature). The enhancement of the stability of the tetragonal phase in Ce-TZP doped with 1 mol% of Mno(Ce-TZP/MnO) andCe-TZP doped with 1 mol% of $ Nb_2O_5$(Ce-TZP/$ Nb_2O_5$) were explained by the significant reduction of the driving force, -${\Delta}$Gchem, for the tetragonal-to-mono-clinic phase transformation caused by the addition of MnO and $ Nb_2O_5$. The enhanced stability of the tetragonal phase in the Ce-TZP and Al2O3 composite (Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$) is believed to be caused by smaller grain size, moderate reduction in the chemical driving force and increase in the strain energy barrier to the transformation. Mechanical properties of the Ce-TZP and the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ with (i) the same grain size and (ii) the same Mb temperature were examined by measuring stress-strain behavior in 3 point bending. The Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ composite doped with 1.3w% MnO (Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$/MnO), which had the same grain size as the Ce-TZP and De-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ showed more transformation plasticity than either the Ce-TZP or the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$ composite. The Ce-TZP wihch had the same Mb temperature as that of the Ce-TZP/$Al_2O_3$/MnO did not show any transformation plasticity.
