Investigation on the Amount of Water Evaporation from Composting Facilities Operated in Swine Farms (양돈농가에서 퇴비화시설별 수분변화량 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The results of the research on the amount of water evaporation from composting facilities operated in swine farms are below. The number of swine per a farm was 1433 head/farm for a Simple Composting Facility (SCF) and 3500 head/farm for a Escalator composting facility(ECF) system. The capacities of the SCF and the ECF were $0.33m^3/head$ and $0.25m^3/head$, respectively. The ECF had 24.2% less capacity than the SCF. The average water contents in the swine manure for the CP and the ECF of the surveyed farms were 86.8% and 85.7%, respectively, which revealed the ECF had 1.3% less average water content than the SCF. Daily water inputs into the SCF and the ECF were $4.1kg/m^3/day$ and $6.5kg/m^3/day$, respectively. The ECF had approximately 36.9% higher water input than the SCF. Fermentation temperatures during the composting period for the SCF and the ECF were up to $45^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively. The decreases in water contents per each square meter for the SCF and the ECF were 3.7 kg and 5.2 kg, respectively. The ECF lost approximately 28.8% more water content than the ECF, which would be caused by the difference of fermentation temperature between two systems. Fertilizer components after composting were examined. Nitrogen contents of the SCF and the ECF were similar (0.84% and 0.86%, respectively) and ${P_2}{O_5}$ contents were 0.78% and 0.74%, respectively, showing the SCF had slightly higher content than the ECF. However, OM and OM/N did not show the difference between two systems. Hence, efforts to increase composting efficiency with considerations of the water content of swine manure, fermentation temperature, and water evaporation potential should be done when the SCF and the ECF were used in swine farms.

  • When there exists a fault zone ahead of the tunnel face and a tunnel is excavated without perceiving its existence, it will cause stress concentration in the region between the tunnel face and the fault zone because of the influence of the fault zone on the arching phenomena. Because the underground structure has many unreliable factors in the design stage, the prediction of a fault zone ahead of the tunnel face by monitoring plans during tunnel construction and the rapid establishment of appropriate support system are required for more economical and safer tunnel construction. Recent study shows that longitudinal displacement changes during excavation due to the change of rock property, and if longitudinal displacement and settlement, which are measured in the field, are considered together in displacement analysis, the prediction of change in rock mass property is possible. This study provided the method for the prediction of fault zones by analyzing the changes of L/C and (Ll-Lr)/C ratio (L= longitudinal displacement at crown, C = settlement at crown, Ll = longitudinal displacement at left sidewall, Lr = longitudinal displacement at right sidewall) and the stereographic projection of displacement vectors which were obtained from the 3-D numerical analysis of hybrid method in various initial stress conditions.

Effect of Fermentation Temperature on Quality Characteristics of Apple Wine (발효온도가 사과와인 품질 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of fermentation temperature on quality characteristics of apple wine. Apple wine mashes were fermented in 15, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$ water bathes for 9 days. The pH levels of all samples were below 4 from 24 h of fermentation until the end. Total acidities of 0.05% acetic acid solution were 7.8, 7.4, and 7.0% in the 15, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$ fermented samples, respectively. The evaporation of esters generated by combining alcohol and organic acids might be the reason for lower total acidity for high temperature fermentation. Alcohol contents of the 20 and $25^{\circ}C$ fermented samples were 6.5 and 6.6% (v/v), respectively, whereas that of the $15^{\circ}C$ fermented sample was 5.6% (v/v) and significantly lower than the others (P<0.05). Methanol contents were 0.68, 0.82, and 1.69 mg/L in the 15, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$ fermented samples, respectively. Fermentation at higher temperatures generated higher methanol content in apple wine. On the other hand, acetaldehyde contents were 3.43, 2.39, and 1.02 mg/L in the 15, 20, and $25^{\circ}C$ fermented samples, respectively, due to the lower boiling point of acetaldehyde ($20.2^{\circ}C$). Based on the results, a fermentation temperature of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ is effective for apple wine fermentation.

Studies on Fibrinolytic Activity of Jujube (Zizyphus mauritiana) Extract (대추 추출물의 fibrinolytic activity에 관한 연구)

  • Crude extract prepared from jujube (Zizyphus mauritiana) possseses fibrinolytic activity hydrolyzing fibrin. A clear transparent region is observed where fibrin is hydrolyzed, and its diameter increased as the added jujube extract increased. The fibrinolytic activity of jujube extract seems to be heat and acid stable since its activity was retained after heat treatment at $100^{\circ}C$ for 10 min or an acid treatment by incubating at pH 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 for 3 hours. But the jujube extract dialyzed with a cellulose membrane with molecular weight cutoff of 12,000 and 2,000 lost its activity, which suggests the fibrinolytic activity might be compounds of low molecular weight.

Effects of Heat Stress and Extra Salt Addition on Acid-Base Balance, Water Intake and Egg Quality in Layers (고온 스트레스와 소금의 첨가가 산란계의 산-염기 평형과 음수량 및 난질에 미치는 영향)

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of adding extra dietary salt on the blood acid-base balance, water intake and egg quality in heat stressed layers. Eighteen 44-wk-old brown commercial layers(Dekalb Warren) were randomly alloted to 0.25 and 0.75% dietary salt treatments, with nine replicates per treatment and one bird per replicate. After 3 d of preliminary period at 13~$16^{\circ}C$(normal temperature), layers were subjected to 3 d of collection period. Then the room temperature was raised to 33-$35^{\circ}C$f(hot temperature), and another 3 d of collodion period was followed. The experiment was designed as a $2\times2$ factorial and analyzed as suck The ANOVA test and comparison among treatment means were done at 5% probability levels. Results obtained were summarized as follows. L The heat stressed layers decreased feed intake, and increased water intake and excreta moisture content significantly. The addition of extradietary salt significantly increased excreta moisture content 2. The heat stressed layers showed significantly higher blood pH and lower $pCO_2$ values than the control bird However, the addition of extra salt did not change any acid-base variables. 3. The egg weight and shell quality decreased significantly, and haugh unit increased significantly by the heat stress. However, these values were not affected by the salt addition. In summary, the heat stressed layers displayed respiratory alkalosis and poor egg quality, as expected However, the addition of ex03 salt to the diet failed to alleviated the heat stress in this layer experiment.

Removal Effects of Bifenthrin and Metalaxyl Pesticides during Preparation and Fermentation of Baechu Kimchi (배추김치의 제조 및 발효과정 중 Bifenthrin과 Metalaxyl 농약의 제거 효과)

  • The removal effects of two commonly used pesticides of Bifenthrin and Metalaxyl during preparation and fermentation of kimchi were studied. The two pesticides were applied to Baechu cabbages intentionally for 20 seconds; the applied amounts of Bifenthrin and Metalaxyl were 3.02$\pm$0.09 ppm and 6.79$\pm$0.17 ppm, respectively. The Baechu cabbages were washed by water 3 times. Then the residual amounts of the two pesticides of Bifenthrin and Metalaxyl were measured and the removal rates were 21.7% and 16.1%, respectively. When Baechu cabbages were brined with 10% salt solution for 12 hours after the application of the two pesticides, the removal rates significantly increased to 98.7% and 60.8%, and when brined and washed 3 times by water, the removal rates even more increased to 99.7% and 73.4% respectively. Then we made kimchi and investigated the quantities of the residual pesticides during the fermentation at $4^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks. The residual amounts of the pesticides in kimchi decreased in a time dependent manner, finally the amounts of the pesticides to 0.35$\pm$0.04 ppm and 0.48$\pm$0.06 ppm while the removal rates of the two pesticides were 57.8% and 81.0%, respectively. When the kimchi was fermented at $4^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks, the removal rates of Bifenthrin were 57.8% and 72.2% and those of Metalaxyl were 81.0% and 85.6%, respectively. Consequently, it appeared that the residual pesticides can be removed during preparation, especially brining; the fermentation process of kimchi also removed the residual pesticides effectively, especially at higher temperature and long period.

  • 실험실 규모의 유동층 반응기(0.8 m H $\times$ 0.08 m I.D.) 에서 반응온도(700 -80$0^{\circ}C$), 유동화속도(1.5 - 3 Umf)의 영향에 따른 생성물의 수율, 생성가스의 조성, 생성가스의 발열량의 변화를 질소 분위기하에서 조사하였다. 반응온도를 700 에서 850 $^{\circ}C$로 증가시킬 때 촤의 수율은 36% 정도로 온도에 따라 큰 차이를 보이지 않은 반면 가스의 수율은 온도가 증가함에 따라 22 %에서 800 $^{\circ}C$까지 30%가량 증가하다 그 이상의 온도에서는 증가하지 않았다. 또한 수소와 메탄은 온도가 증가함에 따라 그 생성량이 증가하는 반면 에탄과 프로펜은 감소하였으며 단위 부피당 가스의 발열량은 감소하였다.

Biomass and Net Primary Productivity in Natural Forests of Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis (신갈나무와 굴참나무 천연림(天然林) 생태계(生態系)의 현존량(現存量) 및 물질(物質) 생산성(生産性)에 관한 연구)

  • A study has been made to estimate biomass and NPP based on equation form of $Wt=aD^bH^c$ for Quercus variabilis and Quercus mongolica natural stands(Mean age; 67, 62yrs old) in Chungju. Equation form of $Wt=aD^bH^c$ was more adequate than $Wt=a(D^2H)^b$ and $Wt=aD^b$ for the estimation of the biomass and NPP. Individual biomass was compared using a paired t-test by tree component which showed no significant differences. Total aboveground biomass of Quercus mongolica was 130.6 t/ha and that of Quercus variabilis was 137.4 t/ha. Biomass of Q. mongolica was composed of foliage 5.1 t/ha(3.9%), dead branch 3.5 t/ha(2.7%), live branch 29.7 t/ha(23.0%), bolebark 16.2 t/ha(12.5%), and bolewood 74.9 t/ha(58.0%), and that of Q. variabilis was composed of foliage 3.8 t/ha(2.9%), dead branch 2.9 t/ha(2.2%), live branch 24.3 t/ha(18.4%), bolebark 20.4 t/ha(15.5%), and bolewood 80.4 t/ha(61.0%). Net primary production was 10.0 t/ha/yr in the Q. mongolica stand and 8.6 t/ha/yr in the Q. variabilis stand, respectively. Net primary production of Quercus forest in Chungju was very close to the mean NPP of the broadleaved forest of temperate zone.

  • To examine the danger of explosion caused by decomposition explosion of Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide, the mini cup pressure vessel tester (MCPVT) was used in the experiment. The maximum explosion pressure increased as the amount of $98\%H_2SO_4$ added to MEKPO increased from $0\%$ to $1\%,\;3\%$, and $5\%$, and the maximum pressure rising velocity increased as well. In addition, the temperature under the pressure at which decomposition starts decreased from $168.16^{\circ}C$ to $126.76^{\circ}C,\;91.21^{\circ}C$, and $81.25^{\circ}C$ as the amount of $H_2SO_4$ added increased.

A Case Study on the Traffic Operational Guidance for Temporary Closure of Climbing Lane; Focusing on Nakdong JC at Jungbunaeryuk Expressway (오르막차로 일시 폐쇄를 위한 교통운영기준 사례연구 (중부내륙고속도로 낙동JC를 중심으로))

  • A climbing lane is installed to separate low-speed traffic from high-speed traffic if drastic traffic capacity reduction is expected due to a large number of vehicles that slow down in the upward section. Existing studies on climbing lanes have focused on the designation, location of starting and ending points, and installation method of climbing lane with regard to road design standards. However, in terms of traffic operation, it was known that the climbing lanes cause traffic congestion due to the increase of traffic volumes. In this regard, this study aims to establish traffic operational guidance as to how much effects temporary closure of climbing lanes can have on traffic improvement according to the volume-capacity ratio, grade, and composition of trucks. A test section of simulated climbing lane was selected in Nakdong JC bound for Masan(136.9K~133.3K, 3.6km, 3.7%) on Jungbunaeryuk expressway to conduct VISSIM analyses, microscopic traffic simulation based on such control variables as traffic volume(v/c), grade and the trucks ratio. As a result of the analyses, it has been found that v/c and the ratio of trucks are the key variables for efficient traffic management of climbing lanes in order to relieve traffic congestion via climbing lane. If ratio of trucks are more than 50% and when v/c would be 0.8, both climbing lane would be closed and non-operated regardless of grade and ratio of trucks when v/c is 1.0. With the increased traffic due to a five-day work week system, continued peak hours during the weekday, increased and various patterns of congestion on expressway, this study would be expected to contribute to facilitating researches on flexible operational standards for road facilities.
