  • The aim of this study has been to investigate the growth of the pharynx and sexual differences in the lateral cephalograms of Korean children. The material includes 173 cepalograms from two groups composed of 51 males aged 12.0 years and 39 females aged 12.2 years in group 2, and 45 males aged 7.4 years and 39 females aged 7.5 year in group 1, respectively. In order to study and measure the pharyngeal area the following skeletal landmarks were selected: S, N, A, Ptm, B, H, H', M, S-N, FH and CV, and the angle CV-FH was measured to provide a factor for correction of error resulting from improper head positioning of subjects, especially in relative positions of A and H, while radiography. For each variable the statistically treated data have been presented in the table Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ. The main results are presented as follows: 1. In general, the measurements of male were larger than those of female in antero-posterior dimension of pharyngeal cavity, but all variables did not show significant sexual differences in both groups when evaluated statistically. 2. All of the measurements were larger in male than in female in vertical dimensions of pharyngeal cavity in group 2, and there were statistical significances of sexual differences in the variables except M-H', but all variables did not show significant sexual differences in group 1 when evaluated statistically. 3. The dimensional increase of the pharynx by the growth in the vertical dimensions was shown to be greater than in the antero-posterior dimensions in the both sexes.

  • An attempt has been made to determine the optimum size of sampling unit and the number of samples for a given precision in wheat, using the data collected from the various experiments in 1979/80. It was found that the coefficients of variation for number of spikes except the case of high-ridge broadcasting by 8HP rotarized seeder are in the same order of those for yield of wheat, and the regression coefficients associated with the coefficients of variation and the size of sampling unit were significant at 1% level of type I error. A wide range of variation in the size of sampling unit was observed for different methods of seeding, indicating the proper sizes of sampling units for 40cm \times 18cm, 60cm \times 18cm, 20cm \times 5cm, 120cm \times 90cm to be 0.40$m^2$, 0.17$m^2$, , 0.11$m^2$, , 0.55$m^2$, , respectively. The variance component for the experimental error was not physically possible to estimate due probably to high variability among the sampling units. The number of the sampling units per plot for a given precision of CV=12% was estimated to be one in an experiment with 4 replicates.

  • Downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis (Berkeley & Curtis) occurred on the cotyledon of gourd (Lagenaria leucantha cv. Sambokkkul) and scion of watermelon (cv. FR couple) in commercial nursery around Jinju city, Gyeongnam province in Korea in 2005 and 2006. The disease symptoms usually started with water-soaking lesions on cotyledon and then the infected leaves became withered and eventually died. The sporangia of the pathogen were one-celled, ovoid to ellipsoid in shape, pale grayish in color, and $20{\sim}32{\times}14{\sim}18{\mu}m$ in size. Sporangiophores were errect, branched, and $140{\sim}380{\times}4{\sim}8{\mu}m$ in size. Pathogenicity of the causal organism was proved according to artificial inoculations. Although the virulence of the causal fungus on the host plants was not strong, it produced typical symptoms. The causal organism was identified as Pseudoperonospora cubensis (Berkeley & Curtis) based on the mycological characteristics of the fungus and pathogenicity. This is the first report on downy mildew of watermelon caused by P. cubensis in Korea.

  • In this paper, I propose a system development methodology that accepts images taken by camera attached to drone in real time while controlling mini drone and recognize and confirm the face of certain person. For the development of this system, OpenCV, Python related libraries and the drone SDK are used. To increase face recognition ratio of certain person from real-time drone images, it uses Deep Learning-based facial recognition algorithm and uses the principle of Triples in particular. To check the performance of the system, the results of 30 experiments for face recognition based on the author's face showed a recognition rate of about 95% or higher. It is believed that research results of this paper can be used to quickly find specific person through drone at tourist sites and festival venues.

  • This paper proposes a method for measuring fine dust concentration through digital processing of images captured by only existing CCTVs without additional equipment. This image processing algorithm consists of noise reduction, edge sharpening, ROI setting, edge strength calculation, and correction through HSV conversion. This algorithm is implemented using the C ++ OpenCV library. The algorithm was applied to CCTV images captured over a month. The edge strength values calculated for the ROI region are found to be closely related to the fine dust concentration data. To infer the correlation between the two types fo data, a trend line in the form of a power equation is established using MATLAB. The number of data points deviating from the trend line accounts for around 12.5%. Therefore, the overall accuracy is about 87.5%.

  • Objectives: The objectives of this study were to develop a quality control protocol of inorganic acids using ion chromatograph and to evaluate analytical proficiency of the legally designated agencies. Methods: This study prepared inorganic acid samples by injecting three anion certified solutions (chloride, nitrate, and sulfate) on the quartz filters. To investigate the storage stability and concentration consistency of the samples, 240 samples for each anion were tested at weeks 0, 2, 4, 8, 12, and 16 while storing at 4℃ and 25℃. To evaluate analytical proficiency, two separate testings were administrated for six skilled analysts and 46 analysts affiliated with legally designated agencies. Results: Average recoveries of the three ions after 16 weeks of storage were fairly high (over 95%). In addition, average recoveries (chloride = 97%, nitrate = 96%, and sulfate = 103%) after 16 weeks of storage at low temperate were relatively higher than those (94%, 93%, and 98%) at room temperature. The coefficients of variation (CV) for the three ions were less than 5% except for the sulfate sample at 5.56 ㎍ (CV = 12.4%). The average ratios of the concentration values analyzed by the legally designated agencies to the injected concentrations were close to 1. However, their CVs were relatively greater (chloride ≤ 49%, nitrate ≤ 14%, and sulfate ≤ 28%), which implies a need for quality control. Conclusions: The quality control protocol used in this study for the three inorganic acids can be utilized in the quality control for ion chromatography.

  • Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave stripping voltammetry (SW) analysis of hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) using the double-stranded ds calf thymus (DNA) mixed in carbon nanotube paste electrode (PE) were provided. The optimum analytical conditions were determined and the peak potential was 0.2 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The linear working ranges of CV (50-75 ug/L) and SW (5-80 ng/L) were obtained. The precisions of RSD in the 10 ug/L was 0.086% (n=15) and the detection limit was 0.65 ng/L ($2.92{\times}10^{-12}M$) (S/N=3) with 300 s adsorption time at the optimum condition. The method was used to determine the presence of explosive chemicals in contaminated soil samples.

We implemented the Moxa-Extract Moxibustion Method in order to improve the conventional moxibustion therapy. This method is aimed to eliminate burning wounds and smoke, which are the defects of conventional moxibustion therapy. And we performed to verify the efficiency by comparing the Moxa-Extract Moxibustion Method with the conventional Indirect Moxibustion Method. We measured the body heat and the lasting time of blood circulation improvement using thermography. Methods : The moxibustion therapy has two kinds of effects: The formers are pharmacological effects of the Moxa's vasodilators and antioxidants. The latters are thermal effects which cause improvement of the blood circulation. To remove the demerits without omission of above therapeutic effects, we extracted the vasodilators and antioxidant compounds from the Moxa-CH2Cl2 fraction Moxa-EtOA and composed the moxibustion kit with (Ba0.8 Sr0.2)0.996 Y0.004 TiO2 + 0.5WT SiO2% positive Temperature Coefficients Thermistor. The experimental demonstrations have been made by the stimulating the spot which is CV4(Kwan-Won), CV8(Shin-Guel), CV12(Jung-Wan) acupuncture points of the conception vessel meridian(CV). And stimulating time was one hour. We divided the subjects into 5 groups such as no stimulation group, conventional Indirect Moxibustion group, only Moxa-Extract stimulation group, only heat stimulation group, and Moxa-Extract Moxibustion group. • Two insecticides, commonly used for Chinese cabbage, etofenprox and methoxyfenozide, were subjected to a field residue trial to evaluate safeties of the residues at harvest. The pesticides were sprayed onto the crop at recommended and double doses 10 days before the prearranged harvest and then sampling was done at 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, and 12 days after spraying. The amounts of pesticides residues in the crop were analyzed by chromatographic methods. Limits of detection (LODs) of both etofenprox and methoxyfenozide were $0.01mg\;kg^{-1}$ and mean recoveries were $96.76{\pm}2.67$ (CV=2.76%) and $95.84{\pm}2.57%$(CV=2.69%) in case of etofenprox and $103.26{\pm}3.21$ (CV=3.11%) and $94.50{\pm}1.35%$(CV=1.43%) in case of methoxyfenozide, respectively. Biological half-lives of etofenprox and methoxyfenozide were 3.2 and 3.5 days at the recommended dose and 2.7 and 3.5 days at the double dose, respectively. Initial residue levels of the pesticides at the recommended and double doses exceeded their MRLs, but final residue levels of the pesticides in the crop samples at harvest were less than their MRLs. The ratios of the EDI to ADI by intake the crop harvested 10 days after spraying were less than 4% of their ADIs, representing that residue levels of two pesticides at harvest were evaluated as safe.
