This experiment was to investigate the effects of UV radiation and chemical treatments on the color difference in antioxidant (Tris(2,4-di-t-butyl phenoxy) phosphite)-containing polyurethane coats. The results obtained were summerized as follows: 1. The color difference increased as the exposure time of UV radiation increases, but decreased as addition level of antioxidant increaes. 2. After 400 hours exposure to UV radiation, the color difference respectively showed 6.13 and 5.94 at 0.7 % and 1.0 % addition level but appeared more severe below 0.7 % addition level. Thus, antioxidant prevented discoloration effectively. 3. The color difference of films by chemical treatments increased after 8 hours. Color difference of films treated with 5 % acetic acid($CH_3COOH$), 30 % ethyl alchol ($CH_3CH_2OH$) showed 7.31 and 7.30 respectively. 1 % sodium hydroxide treatment showed 1.86 color difference after 8 hours.
Boron carbide thin coatings were deposited on silicon wafers by DC magnetron sputtering using a ${B}_4$C target with Ar as processing gas. Various amounts of methane gas (${CH}_4$) were added in the deposition process to better understand their influence on tribological properties of the coatings. Reciprocating wear tests employing an oscillating friction wear tester were performed to investigate the tribological behaviors of the coatings in ambient environment. The chemical characteristics of the coatings and worn surfaces were studied using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES). It revealed that ${CH}_4$addition to Ar processing gas strongly affected the tribologcal properties of sputtered boron carbide coating. The coefficient of friction was reduced approximately from 0.4 to 0.1, and wear resistance was improved considerably by increasing the ratio of ${CH}_4$gas component from 0 to 1.2 vol %. By adding a sufficient amount of ${CH}_4$(1.2 %) in the deposition process, the boron carbide coating exhibited lowest friction and highest wear resistance.
The Purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between the local heat release rate and CH concentration have been investigated by numerical simulations of methane-air premixed flames. And simultaneous CH and OH PLIF(Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) measurement has been also conducted for lean premixed flame as well as for laminar flames. Numerical simulations are conducted for laminar premixed flames and turbulent ones by using PREMIX in CHEMKIN and two dimensional DNS code with GRI mechanism version 2.11, respectively. In the case of laminar premixed flame, the distance between the peak of heat release rate and that of CH concentration is under $91{\mu}m$ for all equivalence ratio calculated in present work. Even for the premixed flame in high intensity turbulence, the distribution of the heat release rate coincides with that of CH mole fraction. For CH PLIF measurements in the laminar premixed flame burner, CH fluorescence intensity as a function of equivalence ratio shows a similar trend with CH mole fraction computed by GRI mechanism. Simultaneous CH and OH PLIF measurement gave us useful information of instantaneous reaction zone. In addition, CH fluorescence can be measured even for lean conditions where CH mole fraction significantly decreases compared with that of stoichiometric condition. It was found that CH PLIF measurements can be applicable to the estimation of the spatial fluctuations of heat release rate in the engine combustion.

Boron carbide thin coatings were deposited on silicon wafers by DC magnetron sputtering using a $B_4C$ target with As as processing gas. Various amounts of methane gas $(CH_4)$ were added in the deposition process to better understand their influence on tribological properties of the coatings. It revealed that $CH_4$ addition to As processing gas strongly affected the tribologcal properties of sputtered boron carbide coating. The coefficient of friction was reduced approximately from 0.4 to 0.1, and wear resistance was improved considerably by increasing the ratio of $CH_4$, gas component from 0 to $1.2\;vol\;\%$. By adding a sufficient amount of $CH_4\;(1.2\%)$ in the deposition process, the boron carbide coating exhibited lowest friction and highest wear resistance.
In tidal flats that lack plants, methane ($CH_4$) fluxes are both positive (gas emission) and negative (gas "sinking") in nature. The levels of methanotroph populations significantly affect the extent of $CH_4$ sinking. This preliminary study examined $CH_4$ flux in tidal flats using a circular closed-chamber method to understand the effects of macroinvertebrate burrowing activity. The chamber was deployed over decapods (mud shrimp, Laomedia astacina and crab, Macrophthalmus japonicus) burrows for ~ 2 h, and the $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ concentrations were continuously monitored using a closed, diffuse $CH_4/CO_2$ flux meter. We found that Laomedia astacina burrow (which is relatively long) site afforded higher-level $CH_4$ production, likely due to diffusive emission of $CH_4$ in deep-layer sediments. In addition, the large methanotrophic bacteria population found in the burrow wall sediments has $CH_4$ oxidation (consumption) potential. Especially, nitrite-driven anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) may occur within burrows. The proposed $CH_4$-oxidation process was supported by the decrease in the ${\delta}^{13}C$ of headspace $CO_2$ during the chamber experiment. Therefore, macroinvertebrate burrows appear to be an important ecosystem environment for controlling atmospheric $CH_4$ over tidal flats.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether the methane (CH4) to carbon dioxide (CO2) ratio (CH4/CO2) and methane-related traits obtained by the sniffer method can be used as indicators for genetic selection of Holstein cows with lower CH4 emissions. Methods: The sniffer method was used to simultaneously measure the concentrations of CH4 and CO2 during milking in each milking box of the automatic milking system to obtain CH4/CO2. Methane-related traits, which included CH4 emissions, CH4 per energy-corrected milk, methane conversion factor (MCF), and residual CH4, were calculated. First, we investigated the impact of the model with and without body weight (BW) on the lactation stage and parity for predicting methane-related traits using a first on-farm dataset (Farm 1; 400 records for 74 Holstein cows). Second, we estimated the genetic parameters for CH4/CO2 and methane-related traits using a second on-farm dataset (Farm 2; 520 records for 182 Holstein cows). Third, we compared the repeatability and environmental effects on these traits in both farm datasets. Results: The data from Farm 1 revealed that MCF can be reliably evaluated during the lactation stage and parity, even when BW is excluded from the model. Farm 2 data revealed low heritability and moderate repeatability for CH4/CO2 (0.12 and 0.46, respectively) and MCF (0.13 and 0.38, respectively). In addition, the estimated genetic correlation of milk yield with CH4/CO2 was low (0.07) and that with MCF was moderate (-0.53). The on-farm data indicated that CH4/CO2 and MCF could be evaluated consistently during the lactation stage and parity with moderate repeatability on both farms. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the on-farm applicability of the sniffer method for selecting cows with low CH4 emissions.
During the rhizoremediation of diesel-contaminated soil, methane (CH4), a representative greenhouse gas, is emitted as a result of anaerobic metabolism of diesel. The application of methantrophs is one of solutions for the mitigation CH4 emissions during the rhizoremediation of diesel-contaminated soil. In this study, CH4-oxidizing rhizobacteria, Methylocystis sp. JHTF4 and Methyloversatilis sp. JHM8, were isolated from rhizosphere soils of tall fescue and maize, respectively. The maximum CH4 oxidation rates for the strains JHTF4 and JHM8 were 65.8 and 33.8 mmol·g-DCW-1·h-1, respectively. The isolates JHTF4 and JHM8 couldn't degrade diesel. The inoculation of the isolate JHTF4 or JHM8 significantly enhanced diesel removal during rhizoremediation of diesel-contaminated soil planted with maize for 63 days. Diesel removal in the tall fescue-planting soil was enhanced by inoculating the isolates until 50 days, while there was no significant difference in removal efficiency regardless of inoculation at day 63. In both the maize and tall fescue planting soils, the CH4 oxidation potentials of the inoculated soils were significantly higher than the potentials of the non-inoculated soils. In addition, the gene copy numbers of pmoA, responsible for CH4 oxidation, in the inoculated soils were significantly higher than those in the non-inoculated soils. The gene copy numbers ratio of pmoA to 16S rDNA (the ratio of methanotrophs to total bacteria) in soil increased during rhizoremediation. These results indicate that the inoculation of Methylocystis sp. JHTF4 and Methyloversatilis sp. JHM8, is a promising strategy to minimize CH4 emissions during the rhizoremediation of diesel-contaminated soil using maize or tall fescue.

Teflon-like fluorocarbon thin film was deposited by using difluoromethane$(CH_2F_2$) added with Ar, $O_2$, and $CH_4$ on Si, $SiO_2$, TEOS, and Al substrate. The deposited thin film was characterized by static contact angles for measuring hydrophobicity in various additive gas ratio. temperature, and working pressure. In case of addition with Ar, the static contact angles decreased as additive gas ratio and power increased. But the static contact angles increased as working pressure increased. Specially, super-hydrophobic surface was obtained using the powder-like fluorocarbon thin film above 2 Torr. Added with $O_2$, the static contact angles decreased as the $O_2$ ratio and working pressure increased. And the static contact angles did not change in 100W, but hydrophilic surface was obtained at 200W. In case of addition of CE$_4$, static contact angles dramatically increased in $CH_4/CH_2F_2$ ratio 5. And continuous static contact angles obtained above ratio 5. As compare with previous experiments by thermal evaporation, the fluorocarbon thin film by plasma polymerization was obtained very low hysteresis. This results shows more homogenous surface by plasma polymerization than thermal evaporation process.
The reaction of [IrCl(cod)]2 with ppol ligand, Ph2PCH2CH2CH2P(Ph)CH2CH2CH=CH2, in ethanol gives an iridium complex, whose structure is converted from an ionic form, [Ir(cod)(ppol)]Cl·2C2H5OH (1),in polar solvents (ethanol, methanol and acetonitrile), to a molecular form, [IrCl(cod)(ppol)], in non-polar solvents (benzene and toluene). The cationic complexes, [Ir(cod)(ppol)]AsF6·1/2C2H5OH and [Ir(cod)(ppol)]PF6·1/2CH3CN, were prepared to compare with the ionic form by 31P NMR spectroscopy. When carbon monoxide is introduced to 1, cod is replaced by CO to give the 5-coordinated complex, [IrCl(CO)(ppol)]. Hydrogenation of 1-octene was not successful in the presence of 1. In order to verify the reason for 1 not behaving as a good catalyst for hydrogenation, electrophilic reactions with HCl, I2 and HBF4·etherate were performed, which yielded the oxidative addition product, [IrHCl2(ppol)], the substitution product, [IrI(cod)(ppol)], and another cationic product, [Ir(cod)(ppol)]BF4, respectively. Thus, the iridium complex is not sufficiently basic to activate hydrogen atoms or the olefin of the ppol ligand.
Core/shell ($\pm$)PS/(-)silica nanocomposite particles were synthesized by dispersion polymerization using an amphoteric initiator, 2,2'-azobis [N-(2-carboxyethyl)-2,2-methylpropionamidine] ($HOOC(CH_2)_2HN$(HN=) $C(CH_3)_2CN$=NC $(CH_3)_2C$(=NH)NH $(CH_2)_2COOH$), VA-057. Negatively charged (-6.9 mV) silica was used as the stabilizer. The effects of silica addition time and silica and initiator concentrations were investigated in terms of polymerization kinetics, ultimate particle morphology, and size/size distribution. Uniform hybrid microspheres with a well-defined, core-shell structure were obtained at the following conditions: silica content = 10-15 wt% to styrene, VA-057 content=above 2 wt% to styrene and silica addition time=0 min after initiation. The delay in silica addition time retarded the polymerization kinetics and broadened the particle size distribution. The rate of polymerization was strongly affected by the silica content: it increased up to 15 wt% silica but then decreased with further increase in silica content. However, the particle size was only marginally influenced by the silica content. The zeta potential of the composite particles slightly decreased with increasing silica content. With increasing VA-057 concentration, the PS microspheres were entirely coated with silica sol above 1.0 wt% initiator.
