Anaerobic Co-Digestion Characteristics of Food Waste Leachate and Sewage Sludge (BMP test를 통한 음폐수와 하수슬러지의 병합소화 특성 평가)

  • We mix food waste leachate and sewage sludge by the proportion of 1:9, 3:7 and 5:5. It turns out that they produced 233, 298 and 344 $CH_4{\cdot}mL/g{\cdot}VS$ of methane gas. The result suggests that as the mixing rate of food waste leachate rises, the methane gas productions increases as well. And more methane gas is made when co-digesting sewage sludge and food waste leachate based on the mixing ratio, rather than digesting only sewage sludge alone. Modified Gompertz and Exponential Model describe the BMP test results that show how methane gas are produced from organic waste. According to the test, higher the mixing rate of food waste leachate is, higher the methane gas productions is. The mixing ratio of food waste leachate that produces the largest volume of methane gas is 3:7. Modified Gompertz model and Exponential model describe the test results very well. The correlation values($R^2$) that show how the results of model prediction and experiment are close is 0.92 to 0.98.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the activation condition of freshly matured bovine IVM oocytes for use as a cytoplasmic recipient in nuclear transfer. Bovine oocytes matured in vitro for 22-24 h were treated with various activation conditions. In Experiment 1 in vitro matured oocytes were treated with electric stimuIus (ES; 2 pulses of 1.25 kV/cm for 70 ${\mu}{\textrm{s}}$ec, each pulse 1 sec apart), ethanol (ET; 7%, 5min) , Ca$^2+$-ionophore(A23187; 10$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml, 5min) and cycloheximide(CH; 10$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml, 6 h).   • The inclusion compound constituted with three-dimensional metal-complex $Cd(pn)Ni(CN)_4$ has been prepared and determined the crystal structure from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. Crystal data are as follows: $[Cd(pn)Ni(CN)_4]{\cdot}0.5(CH_3COCH_3{\cdot}H_2O)$, Fw = 387.35, Orthorhombic, $Pn2_1a$, a = 13.950(3) $\AA$, b = 26.713(7) $\AA$, c = 7.628(1) $\AA$, V = 2843(1) $\AA^3$, Z = 4, $D_x=1.81 gcm^{-3}$, $\mu(MoK{\alpha})$ = $28.153 cm^{-1}$, T = 297K, final R = 0.0418 for 3521($F_0>3{\sigma}(F_0)$). The metal-complex host provides tunnel cavity, similar to thiourea inclusion compounds, accommodated guest molecules $(=CH_3COCH_3\;and\;$H_2O).$ The stoichiometric host: guest ratio is 0.5. The title inclusion compound reveals another evidence for the host-selectivity, that is, the branched aliphatic guest molecule leads T-type host structure.

Differentiation and Distrbution of the Choline Acetyltransferase-immunoreactive Nerve Cells in the Magnocellular Preoptic Nucleus of the Rat Forebrains during the Postnatal Development

  • This study was performed to investigate the differentiation and distribution of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT}-immunoreactive cells in the magnacellular preoptic nucleus (MCPO) of the postnatal and adult rat forebrains, utilizing techniques of immunocytochemistry. According to the cell shape and the ratio of long axis versus short axis of cell soma, the ChATimmunoreactive nerve cells in the MCPO were classified into six types: 1) round, 2) oval, 3) elongated, 4) fusiform, 5) triangular, and 6) polygonal types. Frequency distributions of the oval and round nerve cells on the postnatal day (PND) 0 were observed to be high. But in the adult, frequency distributions of the same cells were shown to decrease. Compared to those of the postnatal rats, frequency distributions of elongated, fusiform, triangular, and polygonal nerve cells in the adult were increased. The total mean volumes of ChAT-immunoreactive cell somata in the MCPO of PND 0 rat were the lowest, while those in the PND 17 rat were shown to be the highest and decreased in the adult. The soma volumes of the immunoreactive cells at the PND 17 were evenly distributed, but those in the other developmental stages (e.g. PND 7 and adult) appeared to exhibit unimodal distributions. On the electron micrography, the free ribosomes, polysomes, and rough endoplasmic reticula (RER) of the nerve cells in the MCPO of PND 21 rat forebrains were immunoreactive to ChAT in the tissues untreated with triton X-100. According to the observations in the present study, it is considered that the ChAT-immunoreactive nerve cells in the MCPO of the rat forebrains are differentiated throughout the following processes during the postnatal development: 1) increase in cell soma volumes, 2) development of neurites, 3) increase in the frequency of differentiated cell types, and 4) decrease in cell soma volumes. The ribosomes, polysomes, and RER are considered to be closely related to the intracellular localization and biosynthesis of the ChAT but not Golgi complex.

Synthesis, crystal structure, and thermal property of piperazine-templated copper(II) sulfate, {H2NCH2CH2NH2CH2CH2}{Cu(H2O)6}(SO4)2

  • The title compound, $\{H_2NCH_2CH_2NH_2CH_2CH_2\}\{Cu(H_2O)_6\}(SO_4)_2$, I, has been synthesized under solvo/hydrothermal conditions and their crystal structure analyzed by X-ray single crystallography. Compound I crystallizes in the monoclinic system, $P2_1/n$ space group with a = 6.852(1), b = 10.160(2), $c=11.893(1){\AA}$, ${\beta}=92.928(8)^{\circ}$, $V=826.9(2){\AA}^3$, Z = 2, $D_x=1.815g/cm^3$, $R_1=0.031$ and ${\omega}R_2=0.084$. The crystal structure of the piperazine templated Cu(II)-sulfate demonstrate zero-dimensional compound constituted by doubly protonated piperazine cations, hexahydrated copper cations and sulfate anions. The central Cu atom has a elongated octahedral coordination geometry. The crystal structure is stabilized by three-dimensional networks of the intermolecular $O_{water}-H{\cdots}O_{sulfate}$ and $N_{pip}-H{\cdots}O_{sulfate}$ hydrogen bonds between the water molecules and sulfate anions and protonated piperazine cations. Based on the results of thermal analysis, the thermal decomposition reaction of compound I was analyzed to have three distinctive stages.

Synthesis of Pentadentate Nitrogen-Oxygen(N2O3) Ligands with Substituting Groups and Determination of Stability Constants of Their Transition Metal(II) Complexes (치환기를 가진 다섯 자리 질소-산소 (N2O3)계 리간드의 합성 및 전이금속(II) 이온과의 착물 안정도상수 결정)

  • Hydrochloric acid salt of a new $N_2O_3$ pentadentate ligand, N,N'-Bis(2-Hydroxybenzyl)-1,3-diamino-2-propanol(H-BHDP 2HCl) was synthesized. Br-BHDP 2HCl, CI-BHDP 2HCl, $CH_3-BHDP$ 2HCl and $CH_3O$-BHDP 2HCl having Br, Cl, $CH_3$ and $CH_3O$ substituents at 5-position of the phenol group of H-BHDP 2HCl were also synthesized. The potentiometry study in aqueous solution revealed that the proton dissociations of the synthesized ligands occurred in four steps and their order of the calculated overall proton dissociation constants($log{\beta}_p$) was Br-BHDP < Cl-BHDP < H-BHDP < $CH_3O-BHDP$ < $CH_3-BHDP$. The order showed a similar trend to that of Hammett substituent constants(${\delta}_p$). The order of the stability constants($logK_{ML}$) was Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) < Zn(II) < Cd(II) < Pb(II). The order in their stability constants ($logK_{ML}$) of each transition metal complex agreed with that of the overall proton dissociation constants ($log{\beta}_p$).

  • Abstract: In order to improve the system for biological nitrogen oxidizing process in sewage and wastewater, a bacterium having high abilities to oxidize of nitrogen was isolated from wastewater and polluted soils. The strain was identified to Bacillus sp. CH-N, based on the physiological and biochemical properties. Characteristics and oxidizing ability of both ammonia and nitrite were examined for the strain, Bacillus sp. CH-N. The strain showed the oxidizing rate about 80% to 90% on the sewage and wastewater after 48 h culture. The nitrogen oxidizing rate was increased in proportion to the initial concentration of glucose. The microorganism, Bacillus sp. CH-N cell immobilized on ceramic carrier were evaluated for the oxidation of ammonia in culture media.

Comparison of the Long-Term Results of R3 and R4 Sympathicotomy for Palmar Hyperhidrosis

  • Background: Video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathicotomy has been determined to be the best way to treat palmar hyperhidrosis. However, satisfaction with the surgical outcomes decreases with the onset of compensatory hyperhidrosis (CH) over time. The ideal level of sympathicotomy is controversial. Therefore, we compared the long-term results of R3 and R4 sympathicotomy. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 186 patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic sympathicotomy between September 2001 and September 2015. We analyzed the long-term results with respect to hand sweating and CH, and the overall satisfaction in 186 patients. Results: With respect to hand sweating, significantly more patients complained of overly dry hands in the R3 group (25% versus 3.7%, p<0.001) and of mildly wet hands in the R4 group (2.9% versus 13.4%, p=0.007). There was a significantly increased occurrence rate of CH in the R3 group (97.1% versus 65.9%, p< 0.001). The most frequent site of CH was the trunk area. The overall satisfaction was higher in the R4 group, but without significance (75% versus 85.4%, p=0.082). Significantly more patients reported being very satisfied in the R4 group (5.8% versus 22.0%, p=0.001). Conclusion: T he R4 group had a higher rate of satisfaction than the R3 group with respect to hand sweating. CH and hand dryness were significantly less common in the R4 group than in the R3 group. The lower occurrence of hand dryness and CH resulted in a higher satisfaction rate in the R4 group.

Synthesis and Characterization of New Mono-N-functionalized Tetraaza Macrocyclic Nickel(II) and Copper(II) Complexes

  • The reaction of bromoacetonitrile with 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{10}$) containing a N-$CH_2$-N linkage produces 17-cyanomethyl-3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo-[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{11}$). The mono-N-functionalized macrocyclic complexes $[ML^2]^{2+}$ (M = Ni(II) or Cu(II); $L^2$ = 2-cyanomethyl-5,16-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[$16.4.0.0^{7.12}$]docosane) can be prepared by the reaction of $L^{11}$ with nickel(II) or copper(II) ion in acetonitrile. The N-$CH_2CN$ group attached to $[ML^2]^{2+}$ readily reacts with water or methanol to yield the corresponding complexes of $HL^3$ bearing one N-$CH_2CONH_2$ pendant arm or $L^4$ bearing one $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group. The $N-CH_2CONH_2$ or $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group of each complex is coordinated to the central metal ion. Both $[NiL^4(H_2O)]^{2+}$ and $[CuL^4]^{2+}$ are quite stable in acidic aqueous solutions, but undergo hydrolysis to yield $[Ni(HL^3)(H_2O)]^{2+}$ or $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$ in basic aqueous solutions. In contrast to $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$, $[Ni(HL^3) (H_2O)]^{2+}$ is readily deprotonated to form $[NiL^3 (H_2O)]^+$ ($L^3$ = a deprotonated form of $HL^3$) in basic aqueous solutions.

Simultaneous 22GHz Water and 44GHz Methanol Maser Survey of Ultra-compact HII Regions

  • We have carried out simultaneous 22GHz $H_2O$ and 44GHz Class I $CH_3OH$ maser survey of 112 ultra-compact HII regions (UCHIIs) twice in 2010 and 2011. We detected $H_2O$ maser and $CH_3OH$ maser emission from 76(68%) and 49(44%) UCHIIs, respectively. Among them 15 $H_2O$ masers and 32 $CH_3OH$ masers are new detections. These high detection rates suggest that the occurrence periods of both masers are significantly overlapped with the UCHII phase. $CH_3OH$ masers always have small (<10 km s-1) relative velocities with respect to the natal molecular cores, while $H_2O$ masers often show larger velocities. We find 20 UCHIIs with $H_2O$ maser lines at relative velocities >30 km s-1. The formation and disappearance of $H_2O$ masers is frequent over one-year time interval. In contrast, $CH_3OH$ masers usually do not show substantial variation in intensity, velocity, or shape. The isotropic luminosities of both masers well correlate with the bolometric luminosities of the central stars when data points of lowand intermediate-mass protostars are added: $L_{H_2O}=5.89{\times}10^{-9}{(L_{bol})^{0.69}}$ and $L_{CH_3OH}=4.27{\times}10^{-9}{(L_{bol})^{0.62}}$. They also tend to increase with the 2cm radio continuum luminosity of UCHIIs and the 850 um continuum luminosity of the associated molecular cores. We discuss some individual sources.
