This study was performed for measuring the emission of greenhouse gases, $CH_4,\;N_2O$, from the composting process for pig slurry. For the experiment the benchscale pilot plant was designed by 1$m^3$ volume reactor with a closed type and operated; sawdust 142kg filled before input slurry, slurry about 10~20l inputed per day (total 380l), air supplied 5l/min for 24 hours, mixing time 10 min./day and 1 time a day. From the total experiment period(30days), the amount of VS degradation and emission $CH_4$, $N_2O$ were 10.9kg-VS and 1,582.4g-$CH_4$, 68.1g-$N_2O$ respectively. Based on VS inputed the emission of $CH_4$, $N_2O$ were 15.3(g-$CH_4$/kg-V $S_{input}$), 0.7(g-$N_2O$ /kg-V $S_{input}$), and based on VS degradated were 145.2(g-$CH_4$/kg-V $S_{removed}$), 6.2(g-$N_2O$ /kg-V $S_{removed}$).

Good yield synthetic routes for the production of new B-alkyl-dithiaborane clusters are reported. The syntheses of the B-alkyl-dithiaboranes are based on the use of Fischer-type carbene reagents to activate the B-H bonds of dithiaborane for alkyl-addition reactions and are the first examples of transition-mediated reactions of dithiaborane to be reported. Thus, reactions employing arachno-$S_2B_7H_8$- and $(CO)_5M{C(R_1)R_2}$ (M = Cr, W; $R_1 = CH_3,\;C_6H_5;\; R_2 = OCH_3,\;SC_6H_5)$ were found to yield the intermidiate anions I, $[(CO)_5M{C(R_1)R_2S_2B_7H_8}]^-$, which upon protonation gave the corresponding neutral, air-sensitive cluster arachno-4-$RCH_2-6,8-S_2B_7H_8(R=CH_3,\;IIa;\;C_6H_5,\;IIb)$ range from 30 to 35% yield. Complexes IIa and IIb are isoelectronic with arachno-6,8-$S_2B_7H_9$ and, on the basis of the spectroscopic data, are proposed to adopt a similar arachno cage geometry in which an $RCH_2$ units are substituted to 4 position boron atom of the arachno-6,8-$S_2B_7H_9$.

Evidence shows that the serum level of cholesterol (CH) is decreased with increasing green tea (GT) consumption. This presentation summarizes our recent findings on the effect of GT extract on intestinal absorption of [$^{14}C$-labeled CH and phosphatidylcholine (PC). Ovariectomized (OX) adult rats were infused intraduodenally with lipid emulsions containing radiolabeled lipids [$^{14}C$-CH or $^{14}C$-phosphatidylcholine (PC)] in the presence of GT extract or catechins to determine the rates and amounts of CH absorption and the intestinal hydrolysis and lymphatic output of PC. During lipid infusion, lymph was collected hourly for 8 h. The lymphatic absorption of $^14C$-CH was drastically lowered by infusion of GT extract at two dosage levels (GTl =5.4 mg catechins/h and GT2 = 15.1mg catechins/h). The cumulative lymphatic absorptions of $^{14}C$-CH in rats infused with GT1 and GT2 were 20.7$\pm$4.3 and $4.8{\pm}4.1{\%}$ dose, respectively, whereas the absorption of $^{14}C$-CH in rats infused with no GT extract (GT0) was $36.3{\pm}1.1{\%}$ dose. GT extracts also significantly lowered the absorption of-tocopherol (TP) in a dose dependent manner ($29.6{\pm}4.9{\%}$ dose in GT0, $20.8{\pm}5.8{\%}$ dose in GTl, and $7.9{\pm}5.4{\%}$ dose in GT2 groups). Both (+)-catechin and EGCG significantly lowered the lymphatic outputs of $^{14}C$-radioactivity after intraduodenal $^{14}C$-PC infusion. A significantly higher amount of $^{14}C$-PC remained unhydrolyzed in the intestinal lumen of the EGCG rats ($22.8{\%}$) compared with the (+)-catechin ($15.8\%$) and control groups ($11.9\%$). GT extracts, (+)-catechin, and EGCG significantly reduced the absorption of TP. The inhibitory effect of GT extract and catechins on lipid absorption may be mediated in part through the inhibition of pancreatic PLAz. The findings provide the first direct evidence that green tea and catechins have a profound inhibitory effect on the intestinal absorption of CH in OX rats. Results suggest that green tea and catechins may be used as a dietary or pharmacological means of lowering cholesterol absorption.
Statement of problem. Unreasonable distal cantilevered implant-supported prosthesis can mask functional problems of reconstruction temporarily, but it can cause serious strain and stress around its supported implant and surrounding alveolar bone. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate strain of implants supporting distal cantilevered fixed prosthesis with two different cantilevered length under distal cantilevered static load. Material and methods. A partially edentulous mandibular test model was fabricated with auto-polymerizing resin (POLYUROCK; Metalor technologies, Stuttgart, Swiss) and artificial denture teeth (Endura; Shofu inc., Kyoto, Japan). Two implants-supported 5-unit screw-retained cantilevered fixed prosthesis was made using standard methods with Type III gold alloy (Harmony C&B55; Ivoclar-vivadent, Liechtenstein, Germany) for superstructure and reinforced hard resin (Tescera; Ivoclar-vivadent, Liechtenstein, Germany) for occlusal material. Two strain gauges (KFG-1-120-C1-11L1M2R; KYOWA electronic instruments, Tokyo, Japan) were then attached to the mesial and the distal surface of each standard abutment with adhesive (M-bond 200; Tokuyama, Tokyo, Japan). Total four strain gauges were attached to test model and connected to dynamic signal conditioning strain amplifier (CTA1000; Curiotech inc., Paju, Korea). The stepped $20{\sim}100$ N in 25 N increments, cantilevered static load 8mm apart (Group I) or 16mm apart (Group II), were applied using digital push-pull gauge (Push-Pull Scale & Digital Force Gauge, Axis inc., Seoul, Korea). Each step was performed ten times and every strain signal was monitored and recorded. Results. In case of Group I, the strain values were surveyed by $80.7{\sim}353.8{\mu}m$ in Ch1, $7.5{\sim}47.9{\mu}m/m$ in Ch2, $45.7{\sim}278.6{\mu}m/m$ in Ch3 and $-212.2{\sim}718.7{\mu}m/m$ in Ch4 depending on increasing cantilevered static load. On the other hand, the strain values of Group II were surveyed by $149.9{\sim}612.8{\mu}m/m$ in Ch1, $26.0{\sim}168.5{\mu}m/m$ in Ch2, $114.3{\sim}632.3{\mu}m/m$ in Ch3, and $-323.2{\sim}-894.7{\mu}m/m$ in Ch4. Conclusion. A comparative statistical analysis using paired sample t-test about Group I Vs Group II under distal cantilevered load shows that there are statistical significant differences for all 4 channels (P<0.05).
The purpose of this study is to estimate the emission factor of $non-CO_2$ global warming gases such as $N_2O$ and $CH_4$ by measuring concentrations from stacks of waste incinerators and cement production plants. Based on the established monitoring methods, $N_2O$ concentration measured from stacks in incinerator were between 0.62 and $40.60\;ppm_v$ (ave. $11.50\;ppm_v$). The concentration of $N_2O$ was dependent on the incinerator types. However, the concentrations of $CH_4$ gas were between 2.65 and $5.68\;ppm_v$ (ave. $4.22\;ppm_v$), and did not show the dependency on the incinerator types. In the cement production plant, the concentration ranges of $N_2O$ from the stack were from 6.90 to $10.80\;ppm_v$ (ave. $8.60\;ppm_v$), and $CH_4$ were between 1.80 and $2.20\;ppm_v$ (ave. $2.60\;ppm_v$). Using measured concentrations, the emission amounts of $N_2O$ and $CH_4$ from stacks per year were calculated. The results were is 4.2 ton $N_2O/yr$ in the incinerators, and 53.7 ton $N_2O/yr$ in the cement facilities. The big difference is from the flow rate of flue gas in the cement facilities compared to the incinerators. By the same reason, the $CH_4$ emission amounts in cement plant and incinerator was found to be 339 ton $CO_2/yr$ and 34.1 ton $CO_2/yr$, respectively. Finally, the emission factor of $N_2O$ in the incinerators were calculated using the measured concentration and the amount of incinerated wastes, and was $42.5\sim799.1\;g/ton$ in kiln and stoker type, $11.9\sim79.9\;g/ton$ in stoker type, 90.1 ton/g in rotary kiln type, 174.9 g/ton in fluidized bed type, and 63.8 g/ton in grate type, respectively. Also, the emission factors of $CH_4$ were found to 65.2-91.3 g/ton in kiln/stoker type, 73.9-122 g/ton in stoker type, 109.5 g/ton rotary kiln, and 26.1 g/ton in fluidized bed type. This result indicates that the emission factor in incinerators is strongly dependent on the incinerator types, and matched with result of IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) guideline.
Effect of citrus pectin oligosaccharides produced by irradiation was studied on the ability to improve lipid metabolism and hypercholesterolemia in mice fed high cholesterol diets. A total of 35 mice were divided into 5 groups and fed the following diets for 6 weeks: normal diet (C), 0.5% cholesterol (CH), 0.5% cholesterol+5% non-irradiated pectin (P), 0.5% cholesterol+5% irradiated pectin at 20 kGy (PIR), and 0.5% cholesterol+5% irradiated at 20 kGy and dialyzed (PIR-F). CH group had significantly higher serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, and low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol contents than pectin oligosaccharide-treated groups (p<0.05). Triglycerides and total cholesterol contents was the lowest in C and PIR-F and followed by PIR and P group, and CH group had significantly higher LDL-cholesterol. Serum high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol content in C group was not different from that in CH and P groups, but lower than that of PIR and PIR-F groups. These results suggest that pectin oligosaccharides produced by irradiation can reduce the levels of serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol in the blood of mice fed high-cholesterol diets and therefore, irradiation can be used as a tool to produce functional oligosaccharides from citrus pectin.
The measurement of VOSCs(volatile organic sulfur compounds) in the air is nowadays a very important environmental research field. It is, however, very difficult because the concentration of the VOSC in ambient air is usually very low and the high reactivity makes it difficult to keep in container without loss of recovery. In this study, sampling method with cryogenic preconcentration is evaluated for analysis of atmospheric VOSC such as $CH_3SH,\;CH_3CH_2SH,\;CH_3SCH_3,\;CS_2,\;CH_3SSCH_3,\;CH_3SCH_2SCHA_3,\;and\;C_2H_5SSC_2H_5$ analyzed by GC-MS or GC-FID. Repeatabilities of measurement accompanied with preconcentration for 3-successive runs were in the range of 0.2~1.0% as a relative standard deviation. Stabilities up to 13 days were measured in 6 L canister and 10 L tedlar bag filled with VOSCs in ppb level. Higher stability was observed in tedlar bag as compared to canister with glass coated inner walls, and thiol compounds show dramatic losses in canister within 2~3 days. It is found that recovery over 70% was obtained in a week for all tested VOSCs when the compounds from ambient air matrix were stored in tedlar bag. It is also found that the stabilities of VOSCs are depending on humidity and coexisting compounds in matrix gas due to sample adsorption onto inner surface and reactivity. The results indicate the possibility and limitations of VOSC analysis in ambient air using container sampling method with cryogenic preconcentration.
