  • ${Li_2}{CO_3}$ and MgO doped paraelectric ${Ba_{0.5}}{Sr_{0.5}}{TiO_3}$, materials were prepared and compared for LTCC applications. In these days LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) technology has been widely employed for electronic modules for the communication systems such as front-end modules, antenna modules, and switching modules. In this paper, 1 ${\sim}$ 5 wt % of ${Li_2}{CO_3}$, and 30 wt % of MgO were added to ${Ba_{0.5}}{Sr_{0.5}}{TiO_3}$, respectively. The crystalline properties and electrical properties will be compared and discussed.

Structural and Magnetic Properties of LaFeO3-BaTiO3 Solid Solutions

  • Polycrystalline samples of LaFe$O_3$-BaTi$O_3$ were synthesized to examine the structural and magnetic behavior. X-ray diffraction confirmed that the ceramics had tetragonal symmetry with less tetragonal strain (c/a) than BaTi$O_3$. The magnetic hysteresis measured at room temperature suggested that the magnetic nature deviates from that of the parent LaFe$O_3$, which has antiferromagentic with a G-type spin structure. Improved magnetic behavior of the solid solution compound might be due to the increase in the canting angle of the spin. The presence of oxygen vacancies and fluctuating Fe valence, arising from the substitution of $Ba^{2+}$ and $Ti^{4+}$ at the A- and B-sites of the lattice, might contribute to bulk magnetization. The temperature dependent magnetization indicated that magnetization was higher at low temperatures and showed a decreasing trend with increasing temperature to room temperature. The magnetic transition temperature of these samples was 665 K and 743 K for the mixed system and LaFe$O_3$, respectively.

  • 페로브스카이트 구조의 (Ba,Sr,Ca)$TiO_3$ 분말에 $Dy_2O_3$ 불순물을 첨가하여 첨가량에 따른 영향을 연구하였다. 시편의 제작은 Screen-printing을 이용하여 후막으로 제작하였으며, 구조적인 특성과 전기적인 특성을 관찰하였다. XRD 회절 분석을 통하여 $Dy_2O_3$가 첨가된 모든 시편에서 이차상이 없는 전형적인 페로브스카이트 구조를 나타내었다. 시편의 미세구조를 관찰한 결과 grain size는 $Dy_2O_3$ 첨가량이 증가 할수록 감소하였으며, 기공은 증가하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 후막의 두께는 $Dy_2O_3$ 첨가량에 영향을 받지 않았으며 평균 두께는 $69{\mu}m$이었다. 큐리 온도는 $Dy_2O_3$ 첨가량에 따라 감소하였으며, 유전 손실은 상온 이상에서 1%이하로 크게 감소하였다.

  • Seven kinds of most representative photorefractive crystals expected to contribute to the realization of the volume holographic storage were reviewed The growth conditions and problems for highly homogeneous optical qualities of the following crystals depending on the growth methods were discussed;(1) $LiNbO_3$ and $Bi_2SiO_{20}$ by Czochralski method (2) $Bi_{12}TiO_{20}$, $KNbO_3$ and $BaTiO_3$ by top seeded solution growth and (3) $(Sr_{1-x}Ba_{x})Nb_{2}O_{6}$ and $(K_{1-y}Na_y)_{2A-2}(Sr_{1-x}Ba_x)_{2-A}Nb_2O_6$ by Stepanov method, And then the figure of merits for the estimation of phororefractive materials on performances, such as $Q_1$, $Q_2$ and sensitivity, were discussed.

  • The effects of $Dy_2O_3$ and $Er_2O_3$ co-doping on electrical properties and temperature stability of barium titanate ($BaTiO_3$) ceramics were investigated in terms of microstructure and structural analysis. The dielectric constant and the insulation resistance (IR) of 0.7 mol% $Dy_2O_3$ and 0.3 mol% $Er_2O_3$ co-doped dielectrics had about 60% and 20% higher than the values of undoped one, respectively, and the temperature coefficient of capacitance (TCC) met the X7R specification. The addition of $Dy_2O_3$ contributed to electrical properties caused by increase of tetragonality; however, preferential diffusion of $Dy^{3+}$ ions toward A site in $BaTiO_3$ grain exhibited an adverse effect on temperature stability by grain growth. On the other hand, The $Er_2O_3$ addition in $BaTiO_3$ could affect the TCC behavior and the IR with suppression of grain growth caused by reinforcement of grain boundary and electrical compensation. Therefore, the enhanced electrical properties and temperature stability through the co-doping could be deduced from the increase of tetragonality and the suppression of grain growth.

  • We investigated the structural and electrical properties of Ce-doped Ba($Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8}$)$O_3$(BCZT) thin films with a mole fraction of x=0.2 and a thickness about 100 nm. BCZT films were prepared on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate by a RF magnetron sputtering system. We have measured the thickness profile with Ar/$O_2$ ratio and the surface roughness. It was observed that the oxygen gas, which introduced during the film deposition, have an influence on the roughness of the film and the film roughness was reduced by annealing from 2.33 nm to 2.02 m (RMS at $500^{\circ}C$, Ar:6 scrim, $O_2$:6 sccm). We have found that annealing procedure after top electrode deposit can reduce the dissipation factor.

  • We deposited $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$(BST) thin-films on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates using RF magnetron sputtering method. A Substrate temperature was fixed at room temperature, while working gas flow ratio and RF Power were changed from 90:10 to 60:40 and 50 W, 75 W respectively. Also after BST thin films were deposited, we performed annealing in oxygen atmosphere using Rapid Thermal Annealing. For capacitor application we deposited Pt using E-beam evaporator of UHV system. In a structural property study through XRD measurement we found that crystallization depends on annealing rather than working gas ratio or and RF Power. Electrical properties showed relatively superior characteristic on the annealed sample with 50 W of RF Power.

  • Orthorhombic $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals are fabricated using the cost-effective solid-state single crystal growth (SSCG) method; their dielectric and piezoelectric properties are also characterized. Measurements show that (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals have an electromechanical coupling factor ($k_{33}$) higher than 0.83, piezoelectric charge constant ($d_{33}$) of about 400 [pC/N], and piezoelectric voltage constant ($g_{33}$) higher than 50 [${\times}10^{-3}Vm/N$]. The transition temperature ($T_{OT}$) of the (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals between orthorhombic and tetragonal phases is also observed to be about $61^{\circ}C$. Because their electromechanical coupling factor ($k_{33}$) and piezoelectric voltage constant ($g_{33}$) are higher than those of soft PZT ceramics, it is expected that (001) $Ba(Ti_{0.94}Zr_{0.06})O_3$ single crystals can be used as "lead-free" piezoelectric materials in many piezoelectric applications.

Effect of (Al, Nb) Co-Doping on the Complex Dielectric Properties and Electric Modulus of BaTiO3-Based Ceramics

  • In this work, a series of BaTiO3-based ceramic materials, Ba(Al0.5Nb0.5)xTi1-xO3 (x = 0, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08), were synthesized using a standard solid-state reaction technique. X-ray diffraction profiles indicated that the Al+Nb co-doping into BaTiO3 does not change the crystal structure significantly with a doping concentration up to 8 %. The doping ions exist in Al3+ and Nb5+ chemical states, as revealed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The frequency-dependent complex dielectric properties and electric modulus were studied in the temperature range of 100~380 K. A colossal dielectric permittivity (>1.5 × 104) and low dielectric loss (<0.01) were demonstrated at the optimal dopant concentration x = 0.04. The observed dielectric behavior of Ba(Al0.5Nb0.5)xTi1-xO3 ceramics can be attributed to the Universal Dielectric Response. The complex electric modulus spectra indicated the grains exhibited a significant decrease in capacitance and permittivity with increasing co-doping concentration. Our results provide insight into the roles of donor and acceptor co-doping on the properties of BaTiO3-based ceramics, which is important for dielectric and energy storage applications.
