$Al_{2}O_{3}$가 첨가된 지르코니아 산소센서의 제조 및 그 특성 (Fabrication of a Zirconia Oxygen Sensor Added with $Al_{2}O_{3}$ and Its Characteristics)

  • 이트리아 안정화(安定化) 지르코니아(92 mole% $ZrO_{2}$+8 mole% $Y_{2}O_{3}$)에 0.5 mole% $SiO_{2}$$0{\sim}2.0{\;}mole%{\;}Al_{2}O_{3}$가 첨가된 소결체의 소결성, 기계적 및 전기적 성질에 대하여 조사하였다. 소결밀도(燒結密度)는 0.5 mole% $Al_{2}O_{3}$가 첨가되었을 때 가장 높게 나타났으며 1.5 mole%이상 $Al_{2}O_{3}$가 첨가됨에 따라 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 비커스 경도(硬度)는 소결밀도(燒結密度)에 비례하여 나타났으며, 0.5 mole% $Al_{2}O_{3}$가 첨가되었을 때 가장 높은 전도성을 나타내었다. 일정한 산소분압(酸素分壓)에 따른 기전력 측정에서도 0.5 mole% $Al_{2}O_{3}$가 첨가되었을 매 가장 높았다. 제작된 산소(酸素)센서들의 응답특성(應答特性) 결과에서 $SiO_{2}$$Al_{2}O_{3}$가 각각 0.5 mole% 첨가된 센서의 응답특성이 가장 좋았다.

  • The thermal behavior of transformation and characteristics of seeded sample powders prepared by simultaneous $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed addition with water on the Al-sec-butoxide hydrolysis were studied. $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed particles are shown to act as nuclei for transformation of $\theta$-to $\alpha$-Al2O3 and to result in an increase in thetransformation kinetics and lowering of the transformation temperature by as much as 143$^{\circ}C$. Simultaneous seed addition on the hydrolysis resulted in uniform dispersin and creation of nucleation site on seed surface and only 0.1wt% seeding lowered the transformation temperature by as much as 115$^{\circ}C$. For 3wt% seed addition, $\alpha$-Al2O3 single phase was obtained at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 100 minutes and the specific surface area of products were lowered to 11.9$m^2$/g as compared with that of $\alpha$-Al2O3 powder prepared without seed at 115$0^{\circ}C$ ; 15.1$m^2$/g due to depression of vermicular structure growth.

  • Glass films in the binary system B2O3-SiO2 and Al2O3-SiO2 were prepared on soda-lime-silica slide glass by the dip-coating technique from TEOS and boric acid or aluminum nitrate. Thickness of the films varying with viscosity and withdrawal speed were measured and effect of composition and firing temperature on the properties such as transmittance and refractive index were investigated. nM2O3.(100-n)SiO2(M=B or Al) films containing up to 20mol% B2O3 and 40mol% Al2O3 were transparent. Maximum transmittance at visible range were obtained for the sample containing 15mol% Ba2O3 and 32.5mol% Al2O3 and heat-treated at 50$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. Refractive index of the film containing 15mol% B2O3 was mininum in the B2O3-SiO2 binary system and minimal refractive index was appeared at the film containing 32.5mol% Al2O3. In IP spectra, addition of B2O3 were increased absorption peak intensity of B-O and Si-O-B bond and addition of Al2O3 were decreased absorption peak intensity of Si-O bond, respectively.

  • Effect of Al2O3 addition on the mechanical properties and microstructure of Ce-TZP were studied. 12, 14, 16Ce-TZP containing 0-40wt% Al2O3 were prepared by sintering at 155$0^{\circ}C$ for 2h. in air. Density, linear shrinkage, bending strength, Vickers hardness, microstructuer and the amount of stress induced phase transformation were examined. Vickers hardness increased linearly with increasing amounts of Al2O3. The amount of transformation and fracture toughness decreased linearly with increasing amount of Al2O3. Linear shrinkage and relative density decreased with increasing Al2O3 content in all composition of Ce-TZP. Grain growth of Ce-TZP was inhibited by Al2O3 dispersion and fracture mode of Ce-TZP/Al2O3 composites transformed from intergranular to transgranular fracture as the amount of Al2O3 increased. TEM observation revealed that Al2O3 particles were located mainly at grain boundaries of ZrO2.

  • The mean grain size of sample decreases with increasing the addition of $Al_2O_3$ in the basic composition of YIG. It is mean that the addition of $Al_2O_3$ is helpless the development of magnetic properties in YIG garnet, considering the relation of ${\mu}{\propto}D^{1/3}$. To increase addition of $Al_2O_3$ decreased the area of hysterisis loop. It is known that the addition of $Al_2O_3$ is help the development of magnetic properties in YIG garnet, considering the relation of loss component factor and the area of hysterisis loop. As a results, sample with the addition of $Al_2O_3$ 0.5 mol % among the fabricated samples is must effective in the magnetic properties of YIG Garnet.

Enhancement of Porosity and Strength of Porous Al2O3 Ceramics by Al(H2PO4)3 Addition

  • Porous alumina ceramics with addition of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 were sintered at 1300, 1350, and 1400℃. The effects of the Al(H2PO4)3 addition on crystal phases, water absorption, open porosity, pore size distribution, microstructures, and flexural strength were studied extensively. The experimental results revealed that only characteristic peaks of corundum were indexed in the XRD patterns of the as-prepared porous ceramics. The water absorption and open porosity of the porous Al2O3 ceramics increased remarkably with an increase in Al(H2PO4)3 addition. The flexural strength first increased to a maximum value when 5 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 was added and then decreased as additional Al(H2PO4)3 was further added. SEM images showed that the average Al2O3 grain size in the porous ceramics changed in an opposite way as the flexural strength. The porous Al2O3 ceramics with 10 wt% Al(H2PO4)3 addition exhibited comparable flexural strength to the ceramics without Al(H2PO4)3 addition, although the latter had much higher porosity.

  • Nonohmic properties of ZnO ceramics with various small amounts of additives were studied in relation to experimental methods, additive contant and sintaring temperature. The kinds of additives used to following chemicals were basic additives ($0.5Bi_2O_3$, $0.3BaCO_3$, $0.5MnCO_3$, $0.5Cr_2O_3$, $0.1KNO_3$), $TiO_2$ and $Al(OH)_3$. Expecially, this study has focused on the effectsof $TiO_2$ and $Al(OH)_3$ in ZnO ceramics with the basic additives. SEM studies indicated that the addition of TiO2 promoted grain growth but retarded grain growth with the addition of $Al(OH)_3$. Also, in the case of calcination of ZnO with $TiO_2$ and ZnO with $Al(OH)_3$ previously, grain size of ZnO with $TiO_2$ was larger and that of ZnO with Al(OH)3 was smaller in comparison to the case with out calcination. From the viewpoint of nonohmic exponent and nonohimic resistance, electrical characteristics of ZnO, $TiO_2$ and the basic additives was more effective than that of ZnO, $Al(OH)_3$ and the basic additives. Nonohmic exponent and nonohmic resistance of ZnO, $TiO_2$ and the basic additives was 11-13 and 40-65 respectively.

Thermal Stability and Fracture Toughness of Epoxy Resins Modified with Epoxidized Castor Oil and Al2O3 Nanoparticles

  • This study examined the effects of the epoxidized castor oil (ECO) and $Al_2O_3$ content on the thermal stability and fracture toughness of the diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA)/ECO/$Al_2O_3$ ternary composites using a range of techniques. The thermal stability of the composites was decreased by the addition of ECO and $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles. The fracture toughness of the composites was improved significantly by the addition of ECO and $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles. The composite containing 3 wt % $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles showed the maximum flexural strength. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed tortuous cracks in the DGEBA/ECO/$Al_2O_3$ composites, which prevented deformation and crack propagation.

  • Tetrafluoromethane($CF_4$) have been widely used as etching and chemical vapor deposition gases for semiconductor manufacturing processes. $CF_4$ decomposition efficiency using microwave system was carried out as a function of the microwave power, the reaction temperature, and the quantity of $Al_2O_3$ addition. High reaction temperature and addition of $Al_2O_3$ increased the $CF_4$ removal efficiencies and the $CO_2/CF_4$ ratio. When the SA30 (SiC+30wt%$Al_2O_3$) and SA50 (SiC+50wt%$Al_2O_3$) were used, complete $CF_4$ removal was achieved at $1000^{\circ}C$. The $CF_4$ was reacted with $Al_2O_3$ and by-products such as $CO_2/CF_4$ and $AlF_3$ were produced. Significant amount of by-product such as $AlF_3$ was identified by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. It also showed that the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was transformed to ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ after microwave thermal reaction.

  • The role of TiC and the effect of Y2O3 addition on the densification, microstructure and mechanical properties of Al2O3-TiC composite have been studied. The amount of Y2O3 has been varied from 0 to 2 wt.% while keeping the TiC content at 10, 20 or 30 wt.%. The powder compacts have been sintered at 1,75$0^{\circ}C$ for various times in 1 atm Ar atmosphere and hot isostatically pressed (HIPed) at 1,$600^{\circ}C$ for 0.5h under 1,500atm Ar. Considerable increase in sintered density(over 95%) has been achieved by adding 0.5 wt.% Y2O3 in specimens containing high TiC volume. More addition of Y2O3 does not affect the densification. With increasing the sintering time from 0.5 to 4h, slight increase in density results. The growth of Al2O3 grain has been enhanced by Y2O3 addition ; this tendency is reduced with increasing TiC content because of grain boundary dragging effect of TiC particles. The hardness of specimens increases considerably by an addition of 0.5wt.% Y2O3 owing to the density increase. Further addition of Y2O3 has no effect on hardness. Fracture toughness augments with TiC content by crack deflection around the particles. By adding 0.5wt.% Y2O3, all the specimens can be densified to isolated pore stage and thus can be HIPed to full densification and better mechanical property. In particular, the fracture toughness of Al2O3-30 TiC specimen increases about 50% by HIPing. Fully dense Al2O3-30 TiC with good mechanical properties can be prepared by normal Sintering/HIPing process.
