Preparation of poly(vinyl alcohol)-coated Composite Nanofiltration Membranes on Various Support Membranes (다양한 지지체 분리막 위에 poly(vinyl alcohol)이 코팅된 나노복합막의 제조)

  • The poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-based thin film composite nanofiltration (NF) membranes were prepared by coating polysulfone ultrafiltration membranes, sulfonated polyethersulfone and polyamide NF membranes with aqueous PVA solution by a pressurizing method. The PVA was cross-linked with aqueous glutaraldehyde solution. The NF membranes coated with a very low concentration of PVA on all the support membranes was successfully prepared. With increasing the hydrophilicity of the support membranes, the water flux increased. Especially, ζ-potential of negatively charged polyamide NF membrane was reduced by coating the membrane with PVA. A fouling experiment was carried out with positively charged surfactant, humic acid, complex of humic acid and calcium ion and bovine serum albumin. A non-coated polyamide NF membrane was significantly fouled by various foulants. The fouling process when using humic acid and protein occurred at the isoelectric point. There was severe fouling when using humic acid and adding bivalent cations. By coating the polyamide NF membrane with aqueous PVA solution, fouling was reduced. The polyamide NF membrane coated with PVA was resistant to the acidic and basic solution.

Stability in Plasma and Intracellular Uptake of Thermally Denatured Protein-coated anionic Liposomes (열변성 단백질이 결합된 음이온성 리포솜의 혈장 내 안정성 및 세포 내 이입 평가)

  • Liposomes have been used as one of the efficient carriers for drug delivery. In this study, anionic liposomes of which surface was modified by using both electrostaic interaction between anionic liposomes and cationically charged BSA molecules at lower pH than isoelectric point (pI) of BSA and denaturation of the BSA-coated liposomes by thermal treatment. The thermally denatured BSA-coated liposomes (DBAL) had mean particle diameter of 125.2${\pm}$1.7 nm and zeta potential value of -22.4${\pm}$4.5 mV. Loading efficiency of model drug, doxorubicin (DOX), into liposomes was 83.0${\pm}$2.6%. Results of in vitro stability study of DBAL in blood plasma showed that the mean particle diameter of DBAL 400 did not increase in blood plasma and adsorption of plasma protein was much less than plain or anionic liposomes. Intracellular uptake of DBAL 400 evaluated by confocal microscopy observation was higher than that of PEG liposomes.

COLLOIDAL PROPERTIES OF HOLLOW LATICES AND THEIR ROLES IN CONTROLLING COLORIMETRIC PARAMETERS OF COATED PAPER SURFACE

  • With a view to seek the influence of hollow sphere pigments of latex upon the printed color on coated paper surface, the hollow sphere pigments were compared with filled ones in a variety of experimental approaches. Colloidal properties of latices were determined by measuring zeta potential and particle size distribution. For the amphoteric filled sphere pigment of latex, the polarity was reversed from the negative side to the positive side with decreasing pH. An extraordinarily high peak in the particle size distribution of the amphoteric filled evidenced aggregation between latex particles near the isoelectric point, depending on the electrolyte concentration and pH of the suspending medium. Coated papers containing the hollow sphere pigment in their coating improved optical properties like gloss and brightness. Optical parameters solely of the coating could account for this finding. An equation derived from the Kubelka-Munk equation calculated them fro twice measurements of reflectance of a coated paper over two substrates of different reflectances. This method permitted to predict brightness of coated paper of which coat weight would be different fro the actual one. The colorimetric parameters of solid-printed surfaces of the coated papers closely related to optical and structural properties of the coated papers. The color of the printed surfaces was dominated by the brightness and the smoothness of the coated papers. The hollow sphere pigments were proved to improve optical properties of coated paper and to control minutely colorimetric parameters of printed surfaces.

Properties of Poly(acrylic acid) Hydrogel by the Surface Charge of Magnetite Nanoparticles (나노 자철광의 표면전하에 따른 Poly(acrylic acid) 수화젤의 물성)

  • The superparamagnetic nanoparticles were prepared by coprecipitation of $FeCl_3$ and $Na_2SO_3$ with $NH_4OH$ and the surface charge on hydroxyl group by chemisorption was changed depending on pH. We studied correlation between surface charge of magnetite and pH. Using this correlation the properties of poly (acrylic acid) (PAAc) hydrogel embedded with magnetite was studied. The magnetite was characterized by XRD, AFM. and FTIR. The zeta-potential of magnetite was influenced by pH: great positive charge was shown high under the pH 4 and isoelectric point was found at pH 7. The hydrogen bond formed by combining oi PAAc hydrogel and magnetic colloid under pH 4 caused tensile strength to increase, while swelling and elongation at break to decrease. The result confirmed that the magnetic moment was increased proportionally to the content of magnetite.

Flotation for Recycling of a Waste Water Filtered from Molybdenite Tailings (몰리브덴 선광광미 응집여과액 재활용을 위한 부유선별 특성)

  • Froth flotation using the residual water in the end of flotation process has been performed through controlling of pH. IEP (isoelectric point) of molybdenite and quartz in distilled water was below pH 3 and pH 2.7, respectively and the stabilized range was pH 5~10. In case of a suspension in reusing water, zeta potential of molybdenite decreased to below -10 mV or less at over pH 4 due to residual flocculants. As result of pH control, flotation efficiency in the alkaline conditions was deteriorated by flocculation, resulting from expanded polymer chain, ion bridge of the divalent metal cations ($Ca^{2+}$), and hydrophobic interactions between the nonpolar site of polymer/the hydrophobic areas of the particle surfaces. However, the weak acid conditions (pH 5.5~6) improved the efficiency of flotation as hydrogen ions neutralize polymer chains and then weakened its function. In cleans after rougher flotation, the Mo grade of 52.7% and recovery of 90.1% could be successfully obtained under the conditions of 20 g/t kerosene, 50 g/t AF65, 300 g/t $Na_2SiO_3$, pH 5.5 and 2 cleaning times. Hence, we developed a technique which can continuously supply waste water filtered from tailings into the grinding-rougher-cleaning processes.
