Alkyl and alkenyl substituent effects on nonbonded interactions of hexatriene were examined using CNDO/2 method. The results showed that: (1) rapid rate of thermal electrocyclization of 3-vinyl hexa-1, 3, 5-triene is due to increased overlap population between atom pair reacting resulting from strong electron repelling interaction of vinly group on the triene moiety; (2) stability of a conformer is determined by additive effect of composite ${\pi}$ structures; (3) a substituent on positions 2 and 3 increases the HOMO AO coefficient of sites 1 and 4 considerably and activates interactions with these sites.
The hydrophobic interaction leading to the formation of ion-pair between $MB^+$ and $TPB^-$ was investigated spectroscopically by varying the medium with the addition of 1,A-dioxane or urea. Beyond 0.01 mole fraction of 1,A-dioxane in water or above 2.0M urea the ion-pair appeared to be completely dissociated into individual ions. The ion-pair was not observed in common organic solvents and the absorption maxima of $MB^+$ were correlated relatively well with the ${\pi}^{\ast}$-scale.
Molecular structures of the various conformational stereoisomers of 2,8,14,20-cyanophenyl pyrogallol[4]arenes 1 were optimized using the mPW1PW91 (hybrid Hartree-Fock density functional) calculation method. The total electronic and Gibbs free energies and the normal vibrational frequencies of the different structures from three major conformations (CHAIR, TABLE, and 1,2-Alternate) of the four stereoisomers [1(rccc), 1(rcct), 1(rctt), and 1(rtct)] were analyzed. The mPW1PW91/6-31G(d,p) calculations suggested that $1(rcct)_{1,2-A}$, 1(rctt)CHAIR, and $1(rtct)_{CHAIR}$ were the more stable conformations of the respective stereoisomers. Hydrogen bonding is the primary factor for the relative stabilities of the various conformational isomers, and maximizing the ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interaction between the cyanophenyl rings is the secondary factor. The calculated IR spectra of the more stable conformers [$1(rctt)_{CHAIR}$, $1(rcct)_{1,2-A}$, $1(rtct)_{CHAIR}$] were compared with the experimental IR spectrum of $1(rtct)_{CHAIR}$.

Visfatin (Nampt/PBEF) plays a pivotal role in the salvage pathway for $NAD^+$ biosynthesis. Its potent inhibitor, FK866, causes cellular $NAD^+$ levels to decline, thereby inducing apoptosis in tumor cells. In an effort to improve the solubility and binding interactions of FK866, we designed and synthesized IS001, in which a ribose group is attached to the FK866 pyridyl ring. Here, we report the crystal structure of rat visfatin in complex with IS001. Like FK866, IS001 is positioned at the dimer interface, and all of the residues that interact with IS001 are involved in hydrophobic or ${\pi}-{\pi}$-stacking interactions. However, we were unable to detect any strong interactions between the added ribose ring of IS001 and visfatin, which implies that a bulkier modifying group is necessary for a tight interaction. This study provides additional structure-based information needed to optimize the design of visfatin inhibitors.
The complexation of co-contaminant mixtures between Ag(I) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules (naphthalene, pyrene, and perylene) were investigated to quantify the equilibrium constants of their complexes and elucidate the interactions between Ag(I) and PAH molecules. The apparent solubilities of PAHs in aqueous solutions increased with increasing Ag(I) ion concentration. The values, K$_1$ and K$_2$ of equilibrium constants of complexes of Ag(I)-PAHs, were 2.990 and 0.378, 3.615 and 1.261, and 4.034 and 1.255, for naphthalene, pyrene, and perylene, respectively, The K$_1$and K$_2$ values of PAHs for Ag(I) increased in the order of naphthalene < pyrene < perylene and naphthalene < pyrene ≒ perylene, respectively, indicating that a larger size of PAH molecule is likely to have more a richer concentration of electrons on the plane surfaces which can lead to stronger complexes with the Ag(I) ion. For the species of Ag(I)-PAH complexes, a 1:1 Ag(I) : the aromatic complex, AgAr$\^$+/, was found to be a predominant species over a 2:1 Ag(I) : aromatic complex, Ag$_2$Ar$\^$++/. The PAH molecules with four or more aromatic rings and/or bay regions were observed to have slightly less affinity with the Ag(I) ion than expected, which might result from inhibiting forces such as the spread of aromatic $\pi$ electrons over o wide molecular surface area and the intermolecular electronic repulsion in bay regions.

The structures, energetics and transfer integrals of the acene tetramers up to pentacene are investigated with the ab initio molecular orbital method at the level of second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2). Calculated geometries for the herringbone-style structures found in the crystal structure were characterized as local minima, however the geometrical discrepancy between crystal and MP2 theoretical structure is reasonably small. The binding energy of pentacene tetramer was calculated up to 40 kcal/mol (MP2/6-31G(d)) and about 90 kcal/mol (MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ), and the latter seems to be too much overestimated. The tendency of the hole transfer integrals computed with ab initio MP2/3-21G(d) geometry is well agreement with those estimated with crystal structure with some discrepancy, and the gradual increment of the transfer integrals at the crystal geometry is attributed to mainly packing structure rather than the intrinsic property of acene such as a size of acene.
Many ligands have been experimentally designed and tested for their activities as inhibitors against bacterial enoyl-ACP reductase (FabI), ENR. Here the binding energies of the reported ligands with the E. coli ENR-$NAD^+$ were calculated, analyzed and compared, and their molecular dynamics (MD) simulation study was performed. IDN, ZAM and AYM ligands were calculated to have larger binding energies than TCL and IDN has the largest binding energy among the considered ligands (TCL, S54, E26, ZAM, AYM and IDN). The contribution of residues to the ligand binding energy is larger in E. coli ENR-NAD+-IDN than in E. coli ENR-$NAD^+$-TCL, while the contribution of $NAD^+$ is smaller for IDN than for TCL. The large-size ligands having considerable interactions with residues and $NAD^+$ have many effective functional groups such as aromatic $\pi$ rings, acidic hydroxyl groups, and polarizable amide carbonyl groups in common. The cation-$\pi$ interactions have large binding energies, positively charged residues strongly interact with polarisable amide carbonyl group, and the acidic phenoxyl group has strong H-bond interactions. The residues which have strong interactions with the ligands in common are Y146, Y156, M159 and K163. This study of the reported inhibitor candidates is expected to assist the design of feasible ENR inhibitors.

Digital signage is becoming part of daily life across a wide range of visual advertisements segments market used in stations, hotels, retail stores, hotels, etc. The current digital signage system used in market is generally works on limited user interactivity with static contents. In this paper, a new approach is proposed using computer vision based dynamic audience adaptive cost-effective digital signage system. The proposed design uses the Camera attached Raspberry Pi Open source platform to employ the real-time audience interaction using computer vision algorithms to extract facial features of the audience. The real-time facial features are extracted using Haar Cascade algorithm which are used for audience gender specific rendering of dynamic digital signage content. The audience facial characterization using Haar Cascade is evaluated on the FERET database with 95% accuracy for gender classification. The proposed system, developed and evaluated with male and female audiences in real-life environments camera embedded raspberry pi with good level of accuracy.

Model calculations for small molecules Li2, F2, LiF and BF have been performed at the Dirac-Fock level of theory using Dirac-Coulomb and Dirac-Coulomb-Magnetic Hamiltonians with various basis sets. In order to understand what may happen when the relativity becomes significant, the value of c, speed of light, is varied from the true value of 137.036 a.u. to 105 (nonrelativistic case) and also to 50 and 20 a.u. (exaggerated relativistic cases). Qualitative trends are discussed with special emphasis on the effect of the magnetic part of the Breit interaction term. The known relativistic effects on bonding such as the bond length contraction or expansion are demonstrated in this model study. Total energy, $\pi-orbital$ splitting, bond length, bond dissociation energy and dipole moment are calculated, and shown to be modified in a uniform direction by the effect of the magnetic term. Inclusion of the magnetic term raises the total energy, increases the bond length, reduces the $\pi-orbital$ splitting, increases the bond dissociation energy, and mitigates the changes in dipole moment caused by the Dirac term.

Evidences have proved the versatile role of sulfur atom in supramolecular chemistry. $^1$Presence of S atom in the molecule usually results in the specific structural properties of molecules. In the present study, $S{\cdots}arene$, $N{\cdots}arene$, $CH{\cdots}{\pi}$, $CH{\cdots}S$ and $CH{\cdots}N$ type of weak interactions stabilize the conformation and self assembly of symmetrical as well as dissymmetrical molecules.
