  • When the wind speed rises above the rated wind speed, the produced power of the wind turbines exceeds the rated power. Even more, the excessive power results in the undesirable mechanical load and fatigue. A solution to this problem is pitch control of the wind turbines. This paper presents a systematic design method of a collective pitch controller for the wind turbines using a discrete fuzzy Proportional-Integral (PI) controller. Unlike conventional PI controllers, the fuzzy PI controller has variable gains according to its input variables. Generally, tuning the parameters of fuzzy PI controller is complex due to the presence of too many parameters strongly coupled. In this paper, a systematic method for the fuzzy PI controller is presented. First, we show the fact that the fuzzy PI controller is a superset of the PI controller in the discrete-time domain and the initial parameters of the fuzzy PI controller is selected by using this relationship. Second, for simplicity of the design, we use only four rules to construct nonlinear fuzzy control surface. The tuning parameters of the proposed fuzzy PI controller are also obtained by the aforementioned relationship between the PI controller and the fuzzy PI controller. As a result, unlike the PI controller, the proposed fuzzy PI controller has variable gains which allow the pitch control system to operate in broader operating regions. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified with computer simulations using FAST, a NREL's primary computer-aided engineering tool for horizontal axis wind turbines.

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy for a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system, which contains the rotor position error information. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error at zero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gain of the rotor position tracking controller has a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. Then, at zero speed, the rotor position and velocity have sluggish dynamics because the varying gains are very low in this region. In order to boost the bandwidth of the PI controller during zero speed, the loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The PI tuning formulas are also derived by analyzing this control system by frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.

  • In this paper, a method deciding the permissible gains of the P and PT controllers for a retarded process under stable condition is proposed. For analysis, the controlled process is assumed to be first-order system with time delay. At first, the adjustable parameter sets causing stability limit are obtained based on the frequency domain condition which makes the roots of the characteristic equation locate on the imaginary axis. And the cut-in frequency ${\omega}_p$ to bring the parameter set to P control from PI control is derived is derived in terms of L and $T_m$ then ${\omega}_p$ is used to compute the maximum gain with stable condition. The results indicate that the permissible controller gains can be described by a unique if parameters L and $T_m$ are know.

  • One of the important problems in a control system design is the requirement that the system should have adequate relative stability. In this paper, We proposed a tuning algorithm PI controller for first order plus dead time system. It is determined the domain of the PI control parameters by Routh - Hurwitz criterion, and we tune parameters of the PI controller using genetic algorithm. A numerical example is also given to illustrate the method.

  • In the present paper, we find the sharp bound for the fourth coefficient of starlike functions f which are normalized by f(0) = 0 = f'(0) - 1 and satisfy the following two-sided inequality: $$1+{\frac{{\gamma}-{\pi}}{2\;{\sin}\;{\gamma}}}\;<\;{\Re}\{{\frac{zf^{\prime}(z)}{f(z)}}\}\;<\;1+{\frac{{\gamma}}{2\;{\sin}\;{\gamma}}},\;z{\in}{\mathbb{D}}$$, where ${\mathbb{D}}:=\{z{\in}{\mathbb{C}}:{\left|z\right|}<1\}$ is the unit disk and ${\gamma}$ is a real number such that ${\pi}/2{\leq}{\gamma}<{\pi}$. Moreover, the sharp bound for the fifth coefficient of f defined above with ${\gamma}$ in a subset of [${\pi}/2,{\pi}$) also will be found.

  • In this paper, instantaneous controller of a single-phase PWM converter is realized using DSP. The stable PI gain of the input current and the DC link voltage control system is designed. The DC link voltage control system can be designed in continuous- time domain. But as for the input current control system, the descretizing effect cannot be ignored so it must be designed in descrete-time domain considering the calculation time. The capacitance estimating algorithm which can be acquired through the ripple voltage is proposed. By this algorithm the DC link capacitance can be estimated even under the transient state. Experimental results show the input power factor of 99.1% and the voltage variation rate of $\pm$5% according to the load variation.

  • The protein p104 was first isolated as a binding partner of the Src homology domain of phospholipase C$\gamma$1, and has been shown to associate with p85$\alpha$, Grb2. The ectopic expression of p104 reduced cellular growth rate, which was also achieved with the overexpression of only the proline-rich region of p104. The proline-rich region of p104 has been found to inhibit the colony formation of platelet-derived growth factor BB-stimulated NIH3T3 cells and MCF7 cancer cells on soft agar. Mutagenesis analysis showed that the second and third proline-rich regions are essential for growth control, as well as for interaction with p85$\alpha$. Overexpression of p104 increased the level of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, $p27^{Kip1}$, and inhibited the activity of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K). In summary, p104 interacts with p85$\alpha$ and is involved in the regulation of $p27^{Kip1}$ expression for the reduction of cellular proliferation.
