Redox factor-1 (Ref-1) is essential for repair of oxidatively damaged DNA and also govern the reductive activation of many transcription factors. In this study, we examined the effect of overexpressed Ref-1 on AKT activation for nitric oxide (NO) production in mouse aortic endothelial (MAE) cells. Adenoviral-mediated overexpression of Ref-1 enhanced NO production in unstimulated- as well as bradykinin-stimulated MAE cells. Importantly, forced overexpression of Ref-1 induced direct phosphorylation of AKT in cells. And, a PI3K inhibitor wortmannin completely abolished the increase in AKT phosphorylation by stimulation of bradykinin and/or overexpressed Ref-1. In addition, inhibition of AKT activity with HA-tagged activation-deficient AKT suppressed Ref-1-induced endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) phosphorylation and resulted in a corresponding inhibition of unstimulated- and bradykinin-stimulated NO production. These results suggest that Ref-1 stimulates direct phosphorylation of AKT for eNOS enzyme activity in murine endothelial cells.
To investigate the population structure and geographic distance among anchovies (Engraulis japonicus) in Korea, we compared and analyzed the mitochondrial DNA control region sequences (227 bp) of anchovies from 12 localities in inshore and offshore waters. The sequence analysis of 84 individuals showed 29 haplotypes, ranging in sequence divergence by pairwise comparisons from 0.3% to 3.5% (1 bp-12 bp). E9 haplotype of anchovies were found largely in inshore waters and also in offshore waters, which was regarded as the major source in Korean waters (58.3%). However, E26, E27, E28, and E29 haplotypes were found in westsouthern (locality 10, four among 7). Phylogenetic analysis using PHYLIP was divided into two clades (clade A and B). Most of the haplotypes, excluding E26, E27, E28, and E29, were strongly supported by bootstrap analysis (>75%), whereas the relationship between clade A and B was weakly supported by bootstrap analysis (51%). High levels of genetic diversity were found; haplotype diversity (H)=0.75-1.00, and nucleotide diversity $({\pi})=0.015-0.0244$. Analysis of $F_{ST}$ between populations in inshore waters ranged in 0.01-0.05, whereas those of offshore waters ranged in 0.01-0.58. A high gene flow occurred in inshore (Nm=22.61-34.22) and offshore (Nm=11.57-45.67) populations. The distribution of mitochondrial DNA haplotypes between westsouthern and other populations was suggestive of significantly different differentiation ($F_{ST}$=0.20-0.59, p<0.05; d=0.52, p=0.00; ${\phi}=0.02-0.41$, p<0.05). These results suggested that the overall anchovy population in the Korean peninsula caused considerable migration due to the mitochondrial gene flow between inshore and offshore populations to form a genetically homogenous and panmictic structure, although a heterogeneous population was found in this study.
An attempt was made in this study to investigate the optimum condition of washing for preparation of mackerel surimi by alkaline washing of 1, 3, 5, and 7 times under atmospheric (760), 660, and 560 mmHg pressure. The qualities of surimis were examined by analyzing the factors such as water content, crude lipid, pH, volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), expressible drip, protein extractability, $Mg^{2+}-$, $Ca^{2+}-$ and EDTA-ATPase activity, transglutaminase (TGase) activity, gel strength and color. The contents of moisture, crude lipid, pH and VBN in surimis prepared by alkaline washing under atmospheric, and reduced pressure went up to $72.0{\sim}72.9%$, $4.8{\sim}5.7%$, $6.9{\sim}7.0$ and $6.7{\sim}7.0\;mg/100\;g$, respectively. Protein extractability, ATPase activity and TGase activity were highest in surimis prepared by alkaline washing under 560 mmHg. Gel strengths of surimi setting gel and cooked gel from five times washing under 560 mmHg were 420 g cm (atmospheric, 330 g cm) and 485 g cm (atmospheric, 412 g cm), respectively. For the preparation of mackerel surimi, optimum washing condition was five times washing under 560 mmHg.
The influence of $O_2$ partial pressure on saturation mgnetization, coercivity, anisotropy field and effective permeability (over 1GHz) of as-deposited Co-Fe-Al-O thin films, which were fabricated by RF magnetron reactive sputtering method, were investigated. The $Co_{69.9}Fe_{20.5}A_{14.4O_{5.2}$ thin film fabricated at $O_2$ partial pressure of 4% exhibits the best magnetic softness with saturation magnetization 4${$pi}$Ms of 18.1 kG, coercivity of 0.82 Oe, anisotropy field ($H_k$) of Oe, and effective permeability (${\mu}_{eff}$) about 1,024 above 1 GHz. the electrical resistivity of Co-Fe-Al-O thin films were increased with increasing $O_2$ partial pressure, the electrical resistivity of $Co_{69.9}Fe_{20.5}A_{14.4O_{5.2}$ thin film with the best soft magnetic properties was 560.7 ${\mu}{\Omega}$am. Therefore, It is assumed that the good soft magnetic properties of $Co_{69.9}Fe_{20.5}A_{14.4O_{5.2}$ thin film results from high electrical resistivity and large anisotropy field.
This study suggests direct connection service which has advantage of high-speed operation of KTX and access convenience of general train, and Pre-feasibility studies on the direct connection service. And analyze transportation demand change by the method as follows; It is to analyze the demand change of before and after KTX operation by previous transport data of Gyeongbu line, and calculate the coefficient of utilization using triggering demand by opening the 2nd phase of Gyeongbu line (Dongdaegu${\sim}$Busan). Through Pre-feasibility analysis, reduction $70{\sim}100$ minutes of train travel time and total revenue will increase about $100 thousand per day. Also, there will be environment-friendly effects of decreasing $CO_2$ emissions. But, Direct connection service need to highly cost ; Buying and Operation cost of KTX train. Therefore, we will be get more correct result of Pre-feasibility study on direct connection service, if there are concrete on buying the KTX action plans.
Oroxylin A is a flavone isolated from a medicinal herb reported to be effective in reducing the inflammatory and oxidative stresses. It also modulates the production of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in cortical neurons by the transactivation of cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB). As a neurotrophin, BDNF plays roles in neuronal development, differentiation, synaptogenesis, and neural protection from the harmful stimuli. Adenosine $A2_A$ receptor colocalized with BDNF in brain and the functional interaction between $A2_A$ receptor stimulation and BDNF action has been suggested. In this study, we investigated the possibility that oroxylin A modulates BDNF production in cortical neuron through the regulation of $A2_A$ receptor system. As expected, CGS21680 ($A2_A$ receptor agonist) induced BDNF expression and release, however, an antagonist, ZM241385, prevented oroxylin A-induced increase in BDNF production. Oroxylin A activated the PI3K-Akt-GSK-$3{\beta}$ signaling pathway, which is inhibited by ZM241385 and the blockade of the signaling pathway abolished the increase in BDNF production. The physiological roles of oroxylin A-induced BDNF production were demonstrated by the increased neurite extension as well as synapse formation from neurons. Overall, oroxylin A might regulate BDNF production in cortical neuron through $A2_A$ receptor stimulation, which promotes cellular survival, synapse formation and neurite extension.

Stock identification of Todarodes pacificus collected in the East Sea, Yellow Sea and East China Sea during the period from September to December in 2011 was analyzed by morphometric characters and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) gene nucleotide variations. Frequency distributions of mantle length was analyzed by morphological method with measuring size of T. pacificus. Then each stock was estimated to confirm their maturation for mean mantle length comparing with mean mature mantle length 20-22 cm. According to morphologic stock identification, it is estimated that the northern part of East Sea is categorized as summer stock and the rest parts, including mid /southern part of the East Sea, northern part of the East China Sea and northern part of the West Sea were autumn stock. For genetic analysis, a total 49 haplotypes were defined by 33 variable nucleotide sites. From the extensive haplotype diversity, limited nucleotide diversity and star-like shape of haplotype network, T. pacificus appears to have undergone rapid population expansion from an ancestral population with a small effective population size. Although pair-wise Fst estimates which represent genetic difference among groups were low, there are relatively remarkable difference of Fst between middle and southern part of the East Sea. Although middle part of the East Sea and southern part of the East Sea were situated at the East Sea, genetically separated groups were appeared.
High-cell-density cultivation of Ralstonia eutopha KHB 8862 by fed-batch fermentation in a 200 l pilot plant was carried out for the mass production of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB). After 80 h of cultivation, the dry cell weight (DCW), PHB concentration, and PHB yield from fructose syrup reached 168 g/l, 74%DCW, and 0.27 (w/w), respectively, resulting in a productivity of 1.6 g of PHB/L/h. Based on these results, the PHB production cost from bacterial fermentation was analyzed and economic evaluation was performed. In the case of new investment being implemented or not, the production cost of PHB was US$ 3.15/kg and US$ 2.41/kg, respectively. PHB productivity and PHB yield on a carbon substrate were both important factors to be optimized. The increase of PHB yield on a carbon sources significantly decreased the PHB production cost but the increase in productivity had a relatively slight effect on the decrease in PHB production cost because the cost of carbon sources (37%) for PHB was larger in proportion to total cost than the depreciation cost (17%). These results suggest that the increased PHB yield from carbon sources and the development of new cheaper substrates would be more effective in decreasing PHB production cost than the increase in productivity. It was demonstrated that PHB is not in competition with consumable plastics such as PET in present market. Therefore, it is essential to lower production cost to be used as a bulk product and desirable to develop new application fields for PHB such as biomedical and cosmeceuticals.
Typical stratigraphic sequences of Paleozoic form the Baegunsan Syncline (equal to Hambaeg Syncline) and Taebaegsan Group is the basement in the southern part of Kangweon Province. Deformation pattern depends on their stratigraphic site and their internal properties. In the biotite schists and meta-sandstones of Pre-Cambrian sequences, flow folds and ptygmatic folds are developed, and high strain deformation is pervasive. Deformational patterns of Cambro-Ordovician are variable because of their various formations. Fracturing is pervasive in the Jangsan Quartzite and Daegi and Maggol Limestone. Welldeveloped slaty cleavage and angular folds of kink and chevron types are the prevailing structures of pelitic rocks. The most characteristic feature of limestone alternated with argillite is the "Compositional cleavage (Author's proposal)" known as the "Worm-eatern" structures. It was known that this structures have a sedimentary origin. But their preferred orienation of long axis of erosional lime holes, originated from tectonic deformation of folding. And this structures have the same character as the axial plane cleavages. Fracturing and long wave concentric folds are dominant characters of the Upper Paleozic sequences. In this area, two folds are superimposed. Field studying and analysis of structures show that the cross-folds of NS-direction are pervasive and were deformed by the EW-directional Baegunsan Syncline. The cross-folding is the major and penetrative deformation and prior to Baegunsan Syncline.
This study aims to reinvestigate the reason for introducing radian as a new unit to express the size of angles, what is the meaning of radian measures to use arc lengths as angle measures, and why is the domain of trigonometric functions expanded to real numbers for expressing general angles. For this purpose, it was conducted historical, mathematical and applied mathematical analyzes in order to research at multidisciplinary analysis of the radian concept. As a result, the following were revealed. First, radian measure is intrinsic essence in angle measure. The radian is itself, and theoretical absolute unit. The radian makes trigonometric functions as real functions. Second, radians should be aware of invariance through covariance of ratios and proportions in concentric circles. The orthogonality between cosine and sine gives a crucial inevitability to the radian. It should be aware that radian is the simplest standards for measuring the length of arcs by the length of radius. It can find the connection with sexadecimal method using the division strategy. Third, I revealed the necessity by distinction between angle and angle measure. It needs justification for omission of radians and multiplication relationship strategy between arc and radius. The didactical suggestions derived by these can reveal the usefulness and value of the radian concept and can contribute to the substantive teaching of radian measure.
