Linum usitatissimum L. (flaxseed) is emerging as an important functional food ingredient because of its rich contents, namely, ${\alpha}$-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid), lignans, and fiber, which are potentially beneficial for human health. Furthermore, flax or flaxseed oil has also been incorporated as a functional food ingredient into various foods such as milk, dairy products, and meat products. Flaxseed is known to possess antimicrobial activity in vitro and in vivo, but its growth-stimulating effect on lactic acid bacteria is not clear. Hence, the objective of this study was to determine whether crude flaxseed extract stimulated the growth kefir-isolated lactic acid bacteria in vitro. The result of this study showed that Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens DN1, Lactobacillus brevis KCTC3102, Lactobacillus bulgaricus KCTC3635, and Lactobacillus plantarum KCTC3105 treated with $100{\mu}L$ of crude flaxseed extract showed significantly higher growth than the control treated with $100{\mu}L$ of water (p<0.05). Based on the results of this study, crude flaxseed extract could be used as a growth stimulator for lactic acid bacteria in various food applications, including production of milk and dairy products.

This paper reports an Integer-N phase locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer which was implemented in a 250nm standard digital CMOS process for a UHF RFID wireless communication system. The main blocks of PLL have been designed including voltage controlled oscillator, phase frequency detector, and charge pump. The LC VCO has been used for a better noise property and low-power design. The source and drain juntions of PMOS transistors are used as the varactor diodes. The ADF4111 of Analog Device has been used for the external pre-scaler and N-divider to divide VCO frequency and a third order RC filter is designed for the loop filter. The measured results show that the RF output power is -13dBm with 50$\Omega$ load, the phase noise is -91.33dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency, and the maximum lock-in time is less than 600us from 930MHz to 970MHz.

Owing to the rapid growth of mobile and electronic equipment miniaturization technology, the supply of micro mobile computing machine has been fast raised. Accordingly they have performed many researches on energy harvesting technology to provide promising power supply equipment to substitute existing batteries. In this paper, in order to have low resonance frequency for piezoelectric energy harvester, we have tried to make it larger than before by adopting nickel that has much higher density than silicon. We have applied it for our energy harvesting actuator instead of the existing silicon based actuator. Through such new concept and approach, we have designed energy harvesting device and made it personally by making with micromachining process. The energy harvester structure has a cantilever type and has a dimension of $10{\times}2.5{\times}0.1\;mm^3$ for length, width and thickness respectively. Its electrode type is formed by using Au/Ti of interdigitate d33 mode. The pattern size and gap size is 50 ${\mu}m$. Based on the measurement of the nickel-based piezoelectric energy harvester, it is found to have 778 Hz for a resonant frequency with no proof mass. In that resonance frequency we could get a maximum output power of 76 ${\mu}W$ at 4.8 $M{\Omega}$ being applied with 1 g acceleration.

$Ni_{0.79}Co_{0.15-x}Cu_xMn_{2.06}O_4$ ($0{\leq}x{\leq}0.09$) thick films were fabricated using the conventional solid-state reaction method and screen-printing method. Structural and electrical properties of specimens based on the amount of Cu were observed in order to investigate their applicability in the infrared detector. All specimens showed a single spinel phase with a homogeneous cubic structure. As the amount of Cu increased, the average grain size increased and was found to be approximately $5.01{\mu}m$ for the $Ni_{0.79}Co_{0.06}Cu_{0.09}Mn_{2.06}O_4$ specimen. The thickness of all specimens was approximately $55{\sim}56{\mu}m$. As Cu content increased, the resistivity and TCR properties at room temperature decreased, and these values for the $Ni_{0.79}Co_{0.06}Cu_{0.09}Mn_{2.06}O_4$ specimen were $502{\Omega}-cm$ and $-3.32%/^{\circ}C$, respectively. The responsivity and noise properties decreased with an increase in Cu content, with the specimen with a Cu content of x=0.09 showing 0.0183 V/W and $5.21{\times}10^{-5}V$, respectively.

Aluminium doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) thin film has emerged as one of the most promising transparent conducting electrode in flat panel displays(FPD) and in photovoltaic devices since it is inexpensive, mechanically stable, and highly resistant to deoxidation. In this paper ZnO:Al thin film was deposited on the polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate by the capacitively coupled r.f. magnetron sputtering method. Wide ranges of bias voltage, -30V${\sim}$45V, was applied to the growing films as an additional energy instead of substrate heating, and the effect of positive and negative bias on the film structure and electrical properties of ZnO:Al films was studied and discussed. The results showed that a bias applied to the substrate during sputtering contributed to the improvement of electrical properties of the film by attracting ions and electrons in the plasma to bombard the growing films. These bombardments provided additional energy to the growing ZnO film on the substrate, resulting in significant variations in film structure and electrical properties. The film deposited on the PET substrate at r. f. discharge power of 200 W showed the minimum resistivity of about $2.4{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$ and a transmittance of about 87%.

This paper presents a frequency-dependent cell impedance analysis chip for use in cancer and normal cell discrimination. The previous cell impedance analysis chips for flowing cells cannot allow enough time for cell-to-electrode contact to monitor frequency-dependent impedance response. Another type of the previous cell impedance analysis chips for the cells clamped by membranes need complex sample control for making stable cell-to-electrode contact. We present a new impedance analysis chip using the microchamber array, on which a PDMS cover is placed to make stable cell-to-electrode contact for the individual cell trapped in each microchamber; thus achieving frequency-dependent single-cell impedance analysis without complex sample control. Compared to the normal cells, the magnitude of NHBE cells is $60.07{\sim}97.41k{\Omega}$ higher than A549 cells in the frequency range of 95.6 kHz~2MHz and the phase of NHBE is $3.96^{\circ}{\sim}20.8^{\circ}$ higher than A549 cells in the frequency range of 4.37 kHz~2MHz, respectively. It is demonstrated experimentally that the impedance analysis chip performs frequency-dependent cell impedance analysis by making stable cell-to-electrode contact with simple sample control; thereby applicable to the normal cell and cancer cell discrimination.

Power semiconductor devices required the low on-resistance and high breakdown voltage. Wide band-gap materials opened a new technology of the power devices which promised a thin drift layer at an identical breakdown voltage. The diamond had the wide band-gap of 5.5 eV which induced the low power loss, high breakdown capability, low intrinsic carrier generation, and high operation temperature. We investigated the p-type pseudo-vertical diamond Schottky barrier diodes using a numerical simulation. The impact ionization rate was material to calculating the breakdown voltage. We revised the impact ionization rate of the diamond for adjusting the parallel-plane breakdown field at 10 MV/cm. Effects of the field plate on the breakdown voltage was also analyzed. A conventional diamond Schottky barrier diode without field plate exhibited the high forward current of 0.52 A/mm and low on-resistance of $1.71{\Omega}-mm$ at the forward voltage of 2 V. The simulated breakdown field of the conventional device was 13.3 MV/cm. The breakdown voltage of the conventional device and proposed devices with the $SiO_2$ passivation layer, anode field plate (AFP), and cathode field plate (CFP) was 680, 810, 810, and 1020 V, respectively. The AFP cannot alleviate the concentration of the electric field at the cathode edge. The CFP increased the breakdown voltage with evidences of the electric field and potential. However, we should consider the dielectric breakdown because the ideal breakdown field of the diamond is higher than that of the $SiO_2$, which is widely used as the passivation layer. The real breakdown voltage of the device with CFP decreased from 1020 to 565 V due to the dielectric breakdown.

The proximate composition and various specific components of Antarctic krill Euphausia superba, in the catch season between March and August were investigated. Frozen krill were freeze-dried and milled. The proximate composition comprised water, proteins, fats, ash, fatty acids, and amino acids, while the specific components were vitamins, minerals, nucleotides, betaine, and astaxanthin. The moisture content of the krill ranged from 77 to 80%, with the highest value in June, and the ash content was between 12 and 13%. The protein content was lowest in May, and the fat content was 18-19%, with the highest value in March. The amino acid content varied according to the season: taurine and glycine were highest in August; ${\beta}$-alanine was higher in April and May; and arginine, ornithine, and lysine were highest in March. The unsaturated fat content was ~50% and omega-3 fatty acids were highest in June. Oil-soluble vitamins A and E were highest in March, and the water-soluble vitamin content was less than that of oil-soluble vitamins. The mineral content was highest in June, and the most abundant mineral was sodium at 235.60 mg/100 g krill. The content of other minerals was lowest (2.94 mg/100 g) in April, except for lead. The nucleotide content was highest in July, while the betaine content was highest in April and lowest in June. The astaxanthin content was highest in May and ranged from 6 to 10 ppm in other months.
Bacillus stearothermophilus No. 236 isolated from the soil is a strong xylan degrader producing all the xylanolytic enzymes. However, the strain was discovered to be highly intractable to its transformation. In the present study, we have developed a reliable method for transformation of B. stearothermophilus No. 236 by a systematic examination of several factors which might have an influence on the efficiency of electrotransformation. Notably, we found that the most critical factor influencing the transformation efficiency (TE) was the incubation temperature after pulsing, with its optimum incubation of $37^{\circ}C.\; At\; 50^{\circ}C$, the optimum growth temperature of the B. stearothermophilus strain, the transformants could not be obtained at a recognizable level. The combination of field strength of 7.5 kV/cm along with pulse duration of 10 msec (resistance of $400{\Omega}\; and\; capacitance\; of\; 25{\mu}F$) was shown to be the best electrical parameters at the incubation temperature of $37^{\circ}$. A higher TE was obtained when the cells were harvested at an early-exponential phase. Twenty percent of PEG-8000 in a suspension buffer and an addition of 0.1% glycine in the growth medium resulted in about 4-fold and 3-fold increases in TE, respectively. We also found that the plasmid DNA which had been cycled through the host B. stearothermophilus cells enhanced TE by one order of magnitude higher. Under the presently described conditions, $2.5{\times}10^{5} transformants per ${\mu}g$ DNA was attained.

Carrot powder was added at different levels (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20%) to Perilla-Dasik, and its effects on the physical and antioxidant properties of Dasik were measured. For texture characteristics, hardness, cohesiveness, and chewiness of Dasik slightly increased as carrot powder content increased. For color properties, both $a^*$ (redness) and $b^*$ (yellowness) values increased as carrot powder content increased. Anti-oxidative effects, as measured by acid value, peroxide value, and free radical scavenging activity, were greater in samples containing carrot powder compared to control. In the sensory test, Dasik with carrot powder was more preferred than control (without carrot powder). Based on these results, 20% addition of carrot powder in the formulation was the most acceptable for Dasik.
