The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of pb-free $Zn-(3\~6)\%Al-(1\~6)\%Cu$ solder alloys for ultra high temperature(>573K) which applied to air craft, space satellite, automotive, oil, gas well exploration and data logging of geo-thermal wells. Melting range, solderability, electric resistivity, microstructure and mechanical properties were examined with solder alloys casted in Ar gas atmosphere. $Zn-4\%Al-(1\~3)\%Cu,\;Zn-5\%Al-(2\~4)\%Cu\;and\;Zn-6\%Al-(3\~5)\%Cu$ alloys satisfied the optimum melting range of 643 to 673k for ultra high temperature solder. A melting temperature increased with increasing Cu content, but decreased with increasing Al content. The spreadability was improved with increasing hi content. But the content of Cu had no effect on the spreadability. The electric resistivity was lowered with increasing Al and decreasing Cu content. In all Zn-Al-Cu solder alloys, primary dendritic $\varepsilon$ phase(Zn-Cu), dendritic $\eta$ phase(Zn-Cu-Al), $\alpha(Al-Zn)-\eta$ eutectic and eutectoid phase were observed. The addition of Al increased the volume fraction of eutectic and eutectoid phase and it decreased f phases. Also, the addition of Cu increased slightly the volume fraction of e, the eutectic and eutectoid phases. With increasing total content of Al and Cu, a hardness and a tensile strength were linearly increased, but anelongation was linearly decreased.
Experiments related to nitriding silicon with addition of $Si_3N_4$ have provided information on the effects of such inclusion on the phase relationships of Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride. In the current work specimens containing 0-25wt% Si3N4 which have 55.5wt% $\alpha$ 4.5wt% $eta$, 40wt% amorphous phase were nitrided for 7-20 hours at 1300-135$0^{\circ}C$ The evaluation of nitridation was per-formed by means of $\alpha$-and $\beta$-phase contents determination in nitrided specimens, In order to observe nitrided region between silicon and silicon nitride scanning electron microscopy was used to study reacted region between silicon and silicon nitride particle. For this purpose semiconductor-grade silicon wafer single crystal was used as a silicon source. The incorporation of small amount of $Si_3N_4$ powder is contributed to enhancing the rate of formation of $\alpha$-phase.
The purpose of this investigation was to observe the viscoelastic properties of five commercial flowable(Aeliteflo, Flow it, Revolution, Tetric flow, Compoglass flow), three conventional hybrid(Z-100, Z-250, P-60) and two condensable(Synergy compact, SureFil) resin composites. A dynamic oscillatory shear test was done to evaluate the storage shear modulus (G'), loss shear modulus(G"), loss tangent(tan ${\delta}$) and complex viscosity(${\eta}^*$) of the resin composites as a function of frequency - dynamic frequency sweep test from 0.01 to 100 rad/s at $25^{\circ}C$ - by using Advanced Rheometric Expansion System(ARES). To investigate the effect on the viscosity of resin composites of filler volume fraction, the filler weight % and volume % were measured by means of Archimedes' principle using a pyknometer. The results were as follows 1. The complex viscosity ${\eta}^*$ of flowable resins was lower than that of hybrid resins and significant differences were observed between brands. The complex viscosity ${\eta}^*$ of condensable resins was higher than that of hybrid resins. The order of complex viscosity ${\eta}^*$ at ${\omega}$=10 rad/s was as follows, Surefil, Synergy compact, P-60, Z-250, Z-100, Aeliteflo, Tetric flow, Compoglass flow, Flow it, Revolution. The relative complex viscosity of flowable resins compared to Z-100 was 0.04~0.56 but Surefil was 30.4 times higher than that of Z-100. 2. The storage shear modulus G' and the loss shear modulus G" of flowable resins were lower than those of hybrid resins but those of condensable resins were higher. The patterns of the change of loss tangent, tan ${\delta}$, of resin composites with increasing frequency were significantly different between brands. The phase angles, ${\delta}$, ranged from $30.2{\sim}78.1^{\circ}$ at ${\omega}$=10 rad/s. 3. All composite resins represent pseudoplastic nature with increasing shear rate. 4. The complex shear modulus $G^*$ and the phase angle ${\delta}$ was represented by the frequency domain phasor form, $G^*({\omega})=G^*e^{i{\delta}}=G^*{\angle}{\delta}$. The locus of frequency domain phasor plots in a complex plane was a valuable method that represent the viscoelastic properties of composite resins. 5. There was no direct linear correlationship but a weak positive relation was observed between filler volume % or weight % and the viscosity of the resin composites.

The purpose of this study is to identify the phases of four different types, low-copper lathe cut (Type II, class 1) and spherical (Type II, class 2) amalgam alloys which are made by Caulk company and high copper Dispersalloy (Type II, class 3) made by Johnson & Johnson and Tytin (Type I, class 2) made by S.S. White and to determine the Vickers hardness number on the individual phase and four different types of dental amalgam. After each amalgam alloy and Hg measured exactly by the balance was triturated by the mechanical amalgamator (De Trey), the triturated mass was inserted into the cylindrical metal mold which was 4 mm in diameter and 12mm in height and was pressed by the Instron Universal Testing machine (Model 1125) at the speed of 1mm/minute with 143$kg/cm^2$ according to the A.D.A. Specification No. 1. The Specimen removed from the mold, mounted and stored in the room temperature for 7 days. The speciman was polished with the emery paper from #220 to #1200 and finally on the polishing cloth with 0.3 and 0.05 um $Al_2O_3$ powder suspended in water. And then each specimen was etched by Allan's method and washed with Sodium Bisulfinite for 30 seconds. Finally differentiation and metallography on each phase were obtained by using metallographical microscope (Versamet, Union) and microhardness was obtained by using microhardness tester (MVH-2, Torsee). The results were as follows: 1. In the low-copper amalgam, the ${\gamma}$, ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}_2$ phase were observed and in the high-copper amalgam, the ${\gamma}$, ${\gamma}_1$. ${\epsilon}$ and ${\eta}$ phases were observed but ${\gamma}_2$ phase was not observed. 2. Among the microhardness of each amalgam phase measured under pressing a vickers diamond indenter with 2.0gm load for 30 seconds, e phase has the highest V.H.N (314 ${\pm}$ 20), and in low-copper amalgam 12 phase has the lowest V.H.N. (29${\pm}$1) and ${\eta}$ phase which was observed in high-copper amalgam has 230${\pm}$13 V.H.N and this phase is considerd to contribute to strengthen the handness in amalgam. 3. The V.H.N. measured under pressing a Vickers diamond indenter with 300.0gm load for 30 seconds in low-copper amalgam was lower than that of high-copper amalgam.
Fusion bonding of cast iron and Al alloy is an effective way to improve the properties such as low inertia, high efficiency and corrosion resistance in machinery parts. In case of fusion bonding, intermetallic compound layers are formed at the interface between cast iron and Al alloy interface. It is important to control the intermetallic compound layers for improving bonding strength. The formation behavior of intermetallic compound layer by heat treatment has been investigated. Heat treatment was performed at temperature from $600^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ with $100^{\circ}C$ interval for an hour to investigate the phase transformation during heat treatment. Heat treated specimens were analyzed by using FE-SEM, EPMA and EDS. The EPMA/WDS results revealed that various phases were formed at the interface, which exhibited 4 distinct intermetallic compound layers such as ${\tau}_6-Al_{4.5}FeSi$, ${\tau}_2-Al_3FeSi$, ${\tau}_{11}-Al_5Fe_2Si $and ${\eta}-Al_5Fe_2$. Also, fine precipitation of ${\tau}_1-Al_2Fe_3Si_3$ phase was formed between ${\tau}_{11}$ and ${\eta}$ layer. The phase fraction in intermetallic compound layer was changed by heat treatment temperature. At $600^{\circ}C$, intermetallic compound layer of ${\tau}_6$ phase was mainly formed with increasing heat treatment time. With increasing heat treatment temperature to $800^{\circ}C$, however, ${\tau}_2$ phase was mainly distributed in intermetallic compound layer. ${\tau}_1$ phase was remarkably decreased with increasing heat treatment time and temperature.
Modal transmission-line is utilized to analyze the power coupling of optical directional coupler composed by two parallel guiding slabs. By defining a coupling efficiency .eta. amenable to rigorous supermodes and boundary conditions of modal functions, we evaluate the power transfer for TE mode of gainy coupler. The results reveal that optimized power exchange occurs at a novel wavelength .lambda.$_{op}$ , which is generally different from minimum gap .lambda.$_{min}$ between rigorous modes and phase-matching condition .lambda.$_{ph}$ .
The current efficiency and the composition of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-X (X : Co, Mn) alloy electrodeposits were investigated by using chloride bath with EDTA auditive and flow cell plating system. The current efficiency of Zn-Cr alloy decreased with increasing current density, while it increased with the content of Co and Mn of the Zn-Cr-X alloy bath in high current density region. The Cr content in Zn-Cr alloy increased from 1.4-2.7 to $28wt\%$ with increasing current density and the phase structure of the alloys changed from $\eta-Zn$ through $\eta-Zn+\gamma'-ZnCr\;to\;\gamma'-ZnCr$ with Increasing Cr content of the alloys. The Co content in Zn-Cr-Co alloys increased with Co content of the bath, while Cr content of the alloy increased or decreased in low current density region $(10-75A/dm^2)$ or high current density region $(75-100A/dm^2)$, respectively. $\gamma-ZnCo$ phase was formed in the Zn-Cr-Co alloy with above $9.0wt\%$ Co. The content of Mn and Cr in Zn-Cr-Mn alloys increased or decreased with the increase of current density in high current density region, respectively while Cr content of the alloy decreased noticeably with the increase of Mn content in the bath. Two phases of $\delta_1-ZnMn$ and $\gamma'-ZnCr$ were formed in the Zn-Cr-Mn alloy with above $8.6wt\%$ Mn.

The gas-phase dehydration of glycerol to acrolein was carried out over silicotungstic acid ($H_4SiW_{12}O_{40}{\cdot}xH_2O$, HSiW) catalysts supported on $SiO_2$, ${\eta}-Al_2O_3$, and silica-aluminas with different Al contents. The HSiW catalysts supported on silica-aluminas showed higher glycerol conversions and acrolein yields during the initial 2 h at $315^{\circ}C$ than did $SiO_2$- and ${\eta}-Al_2O_3$-supported HSiW catalysts. Among the tested catalysts, HSiW/$Si_{0.9}Al_{0.1}O_x$ exhibited the highest space-time yield during the initial 2 h. The loaded HSiW species can change the acid types and suppress the formation of carbonaceous species on Al-rich silica-aluminas. The deactivated HSiW supported on silica-aluminas can be fully regenerated after calcination in air at $500^{\circ}C$. As long as the molar ratio between water and glycerol was in the range of 2-11, the acrolein selectivity increased significantly with increasing water content in the feed, while the surface carbon content decreased owing to the suppression of heavy compounds.
