고온가압소결한 탄화규소의 집합조직 (Texture in hot-pressed silicon carbide)

  • $\alpha$ - 및 $\beta$-SiC를 출발원료로 하여 일축성형한 후 $1800^{\circ}C$에서 고온가압법으로 소결한 탄화규소에 나타난 우선방위의 정도를 X-ray pole figure analysis로 조사하였다. $\alpha$-SiC를 출발원료로 사용한 경우에 고온 가압소결 후 약한 집합조직을 보인 반면, $\beta$ - SiC를 출발원료로 사용한 경우 고온가압소결 후 강한 집합조직을 보였으며, 이 경우 ${\beta} {\rightarrow} {\alpha}$ 상변태에 기인한 이중미세구조를 나타내었다. 또한, 집합조직의 강도는 고온가압소결 후 행해진 열처리 조건에 따라서도 변화를 보였다.

Electrochemical Characterization of Nanosized Electrode Arrays Prepared from Nanoporous Self-Assembled Monolayers

  • We characterized nanoelectrode arrays prepared from self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) by adsorption from a solution containing thiolated $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) and n-alkanethiol on the gold electrode surface, using electrochemical methods. While the framework, the n-hexadecanethiol SAM, effectively blocked electron transfer between the electrode surface and solution-phase redox probe molecules, the $\beta$-CD cavities isolated in the forests of n-hexadecanethiol molecules were shown to act as an ultramicroelectrode array. The shapes of cyclic voltammograms of probe molecules were related to the number densities of $\beta$-CD molecules within the monolayer films. Probe molecules that have the correct combination of physical and chemical characteristics were shown to effectively penetrate the framework through the $\beta$-CD pores and exchange electrons with the electrode surface.

Expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$ in Splenic Dendritic Cells and Their Serum Levels in Mouse Sparganosis

  • Sparganosis is a tissue invading helminthiasis infecting intermediate hosts, including humans. Strong immune responses are expected to occur in early phases of infection. Thus, we investigated cytokine expressions in splenic dendritic cells and in sera after experimental infection of mice. In splenic dendritic cells, TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$ expression peaked at week 1 and week 3 post -infection (PI), respectively, and also early phase (week 2 PI) depressed cytokine expression was noticed. Serum IL-$1{\beta}$ concentration increased significantly at week 2 PI and peaked at week 6 PI, and that of TNF-${\alpha}$ peaked at week 6 PI. These results showed that pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$, are chronologically regulated in mouse sparganosis.

The Synergistic Antibacterial Activity of 1-Acetyl-$\beta$-Carboline and $\beta$-Lactams Against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

  • 1-Acetyl-$\beta$-carboline was isolated as an anti-MRSA agent from the fermentation broth of a marine actinomycete isolated from marine sediment. The producing strain was identified to be Streptomyces sp. by phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence. The anti-MRSA agent was isolated by bioactivity-guided fractionation of the culture extract by solvent partitioning, ODS open flash chromatography, and purification with a reversed-phase HPLC. Its structure was elucidated by extensive 2D NMR and mass spectral analyses. Combination of 1-acetyl-$\beta$-carboline with ampicillin exhibited synergistic antibacterial activity against MRSA.

  • ATPase was the most available phosphatase in culture broth of 5. coli P90C. To measure the stable phosphatase activity it was necessary to react nth reaction reagent over 30 min and then we can get stable optical density at 410 m. Transfer time from preculture to main culture for the production of $\beta$-glactosidase was good after 3 hrs cultivation. Phosphatase activity was highest at log phase in main culture and as the cell begins to make $\beta$-galactosidase phosphatase activity begins to decrease.

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay and Light Sterile Neutrino

  • The recent neutrino experiment results show a preference on normal mass ordering of neutrinos. The global efforts to search for neutrinoless double beta decays undergo a broad gap with the approach to the prediction in three-neutrino framework based on the normal ordering. Current research is to show that it is possible to find a neutrinoless double beta decay signal even with normal ordered neutrino masses. We propose the existence of light sterile neutrino as a solution to the higher effective mass of electron neutrino expected by experiments under operation. A few short-baseline oscillation experiments gave rise to exclusion bound to the mass of sterile neutrino and its mixing with the lightest neutrino. It is demonstrated that results of neutrinoless double beta decays can also narrow down the ranges of the mass and the mixing angle of sterile neutrino.

  • $\beta$-amyloid (A$\beta$) peptide produced from amyloid precursor protein (APP) is a major cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Therefore, in early phase of AD, imbalance of the production and the clearance of $A\beta$ is regarded as an important factor to progressive AD presenting senile plaque, a hallmark of AD. In the present study, we wanted to verify whether Rg3 can playa role in helping microglia engulfing $A\beta$ peptides. Validations for the study was conducted by using DiI-Ac-LDL, which attached only on type A macrophage scavenger receptor (MSR-A) and ligands for he receptor, fucoidan. (omitted)

SIC 도전성 세라믹 복합체의 특성에 미치는 천이금속의 영향 (Effect of Transition Metal on Properties of SiC Electroconductive Ceramic Composites)

  • The composites were fabricated, respectively, using 61vol.% SiC - 39vol.% TiB$_2$ and using 61vo1.% SiC - 39vo1.% WC powders with the liquid forming additives of 12wt% $Al_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$ by pressureless annealing at 180$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. Reactions between SiC and transition metal TiB$_2$, WC were not observed in this microstructure. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed SiC(6H), TiB$_2$ and YAG(Al$_{5}$Y$_3$O$_{12}$) crystal phase on the SiC-TiB$_2$, and SiC(2H), WC and YAG(Al$_{5}$Y$_3$O$_{12}$) crystal phase on the SiC-WC composites. $\beta$\$\longrightarrow$$\alpha$-SiC phase transformation was ocurred on the SiC-TiB$_2$, but $\alpha$\$\longrightarrow$$\beta$-SiC reverse transformation was not occurred on the SiC-WC composites. The relative density, the vicker's hardness, the flexural strength and the fracture toughness showed respectively value of 96.2%, 13.34GPa, 310.19Mpa and 5.53Mpaㆍml/2 in SiC-WC composites. The electrical resistivity of the SiC-TiB$_2$ and the SiC-WC composites is all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature ranges from $25^{\circ}C$ to 50$0^{\circ}C$. 2.64${\times}$10-2/$^{\circ}C$ of PTCR of SiC-WC was higher than 1.645${\times}$10-3/$^{\circ}C$ of SiC-TiB$_2$ composites.posites.

  • The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed ${\beta}-SiC-TiB_2$,/TEX> electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as function as functions of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$. The result of phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed ${\alpha}$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$,/TEX>, and YAG($Al_5Y_3O_{12}$) crystal phase. The relative density and the mechanical properties of composites were increased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents in pressureless annealing method because YAG of reaction between $Al_2O_3$ was increased. The flexural strength showed the highest value of 458.9 MPa for composites added with 4 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives in pressed annealing method at room temperature. Owing to crack deflection, crack bridging, phase transition and YAG of fracture toughness mechanism, the fracture toughness showed 7.1 MPa ${\cdot}\;m^{1/2}$ for composites added with 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives in pressureless annealing method at room temperature. The electrical resistivity and the resistance temperature coefficient showed the lowest value of $6.0{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}\;{\cdot}\;cm(25\'^{\circ}C}$ and $3.0{\times}10^{-3}/^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives in pressureless annealing method at room temperature, respectively. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature ranges from 25 $^{\circ}C$ to 700 $^{\circ}C$.

The electrical resistivity and the resistance temperature coefficient showed the lowest of $6.0\times10-4\Omega.cm\; and\; 3.1\times10-3/^{\circ}C4 respectively for composite added with 12wt% \Omega additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance (PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C\; to\; 700^{\circ}C$.
