  • We report low operating voltage and long lifetime organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a vanadium oxide $(V_2O_5)-doped$ N,N'-di(1-naphthyl)- N,N'-diphenylbenzidine $({\alpha}-NPD)$ layer between indium tin oxide and ${\alpha}-NPD$. At a luminance of $1000\;cd/m^2$, $V_2O_5$ doped ${\alpha}-NPD$ device shows a operation voltage of 5.1V, while the device without $V_2O_5$ shows 5.8V. The $V_2O_5$ doped $({\alpha}-NPD)$ device also shows a longer lifetime and smaller operation voltage variation over time. It is suggested that the improved device performance can be attributed to the higher hole-injection efficiency and stability of the $V_2O_5$ doped $({\alpha}-NPD)$ layer.

  • A strain WL-2 was isolated from soil as a producer of the extracellular xylanase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of oat spelt xylan. The strain WL-2 was identified as Streptomyces sp. on the basis of its 16S rRNA sequence, morphology, cultural and physiological properties. The xylanase of culture filtrate was the most active at $60^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.0, and retained $90{\%}$ of its maximum activity at range of pH $4.5{\~}6.5$. In order to optimize the culture medium for xylanase production, ingredients of G.S.S medium were replaced by several carbohydrates. The carbohydrates such as ${\alpha}-cellulose$, oat spelt xylan and maltose increased dramatically the xylanase productivity of Streptomyces sp. WL-2. The maximum xylanase productivity was reached to 120 U/ml in the modified medium containing $1{\%}\;\alpha-cellulose$ and $1\%}$ maltose.

  • In Previous paper, an experimental equation for prediction of thermal diffusivity of white muscled fish meat paste products was suggested. In this paper, another experimental equation for red muscled fish meat paste products was derived. The thermal diffusivities of products with water contents of 44.74 to $82.83\%$ and lipid contents of 0.35 to $23.38\%$ could be deduced as following equations ; $$\alpha_{80.39^{\circ}C}=0.0759{\cdot}10^{-6}{\cdot}X_w+0.0836{\cdot}10^{-6},\;m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$$ $$\alpha_{100.63^{\circ}C}=0.0820{\cdot}10^{-6}{\cdot}X_w+0.0853{\cdot}10^{-6},\;m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$$ $$\alpha_{120.09^{\circ}C}=0.0830{\cdot}10^{-6}{\cdot}X_w+0.09140{\cdot}10^{-6},\;m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$$ The experimental equation derived from these equations was ; $$\alpha=(0.9795+.8996{\cdot}X_w){\cdot}\alpha_w-0.0709{\cdot}10^{-6}{\cdot}X_w-0.0779{\cdot}10^{-6},\;m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$$ The errors of the thermal diffusivities of red muscled fish meat paste products predicted with this equation were less than ${\pm}\;0.52\%$ compared with those measured. A new experimental equation for products of white and red muscled fish meat paste could be discribed as follow ; $$\alpha=(1.096+0.5318{\cdot}X_w){\cdot}\alpha_w-0.0057{\cdot}10^{-6}{\cdot}X_w-0.0992{\cdot}10^{-6},\;m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$$ The errors of the thermal diffusivities predicted with this equation were less than ${\pm}\;0.13\%$ compared with those measured.

  • A 6-year-old, female, Siberian husky was referred with mucous diarrhea. On fecal examination, numerous clustered and individual large epithelial cells and rod-shaped, spore-forming bacteria were examined. By bacterial culture and molecular typing, the bacteria was identified as Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens), and by toxin analysis of C. perfringens, production of $\alpha$-toxin was confirmed. Based on these results, the dog was diagnosed as enteritis caused by C. perfringens producing $\alpha$-toxin, and was treated with amoxicillin/clavulanate. After 1 week, the diarrhea was disappeared and no spore-forming bacteria were examined on fecal examination. This report shows that the rapid and exact diagnosis keeps a effective treatment for enteritis caused by C. perfringens producing $\alpha$-toxin in dogs.

  • (1) The flow data of f (stress) and ${\dot{s}$ (strain rate) for Fe and Ti alloys were plotted in the form of f vs. -ln ${\dot{s}$ by using the literature values. (2) The plot showed two distinct patterns A and B; Pattern A is a straight line with a negative slope, and Pattern B is a curve of concave upward. (3) According to Kim and Ree's generalized theory of plastic deformation, pattern A & B belong to Case 1 and 2, respectively; in Case 1, only one kind of flow units acts in the deformation, and in Case 2, two kinds flow units act, and stress is expressed by $f={X_1f_1}+{X_2f_2}$where $f_1\;and\;f_2$ are the stresses acting on the flow units of kind 1 and 2, respectively, and $X_1,\;X_2$ are the fractions of the surface area occupied by the two kinds of flow units; $f_j=(1/{\alpha}_j) sinh^{-1}\;{\beta}_j{{\dot{s}}\;(j=1\;or\;2)$, where $1/{\alpha}_j\;and\;{\beta}_j$ are proportional to the shear modulus and relaxation time, respectively. (4) We found that grain-boundary flow units only act in the deformation of Fe and Ti alloys whereas dislocation flow units do not show any appreciable contribution. (5) The deformations of Fe and Ti alloys belong generally to pattern A (Case 1) and B (Case 2), respectively. (6) By applying the equations, f=$(1/{\alpha}_{g1}) sinh^-1({\beta}_{g1}{\dot{s}}$) and $f=(X_{g1}/{\alpha}_{g1})sinh^{-1}({\beta}_{g1}{\dot{s}})+ (X_{g2}/{\alpha}_{g2})\;shih^{-1}({\beta}_{g2}{\dot{s}})$ to the flow data of Fe and Ti alloys, the parametric values of $x_{gj}/{\alpha}_{gj}\;and\;{\beta}_{gs}(j=1\;or\;2)$ were determined, here the subscript g signifies a grain-boundary flow unit. (7) From the values of ($({\beta}_gj)^{-1}$) at different temperatures, the activation enthalpy ${\Delta}H_{gj}^{\neq}$ of deformation due to flow unit gj was determined, ($({\beta}_gj)^{-1}$) being proportional to , the jumping frequency (the rate constant) of flow unit gj. The ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}$ agreed very well with ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}$ (self-diff) of the element j whose diffusion in the sample is a critical step for the deformation as proposed by Kim-Ree's theory (Refer to Tables 3 and 4). (8) The fact, ${\Delta}H_{gj}\;^{\neq}={\Delta}H_{j}\;^{\neq}$ (self-diff), justifies the Kim-Ree theory and their method for determining activation enthalpies for deformation. (9) A linear relation between ${\beta}^{-1}$ and carbon content [C] in hot-rolled steel was observed, i.e., In ${\beta}^{-1}$ = -50.2 [C] - 40.3. This equation explains very well the experimental facts observed with regard to the deformation of hot-rolled steel..

  • The crystal structure of bis(N-methylphenazinium) bis(oxalato)palladate(II) has been determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystal data: ((C_{13}H_{11}N_2)_2[Pd(C_2O_4)_2]) $M_w$ = 672.93, Triclinic, Space Group P1 (No = 2), a = 7.616(8), b = 9.842(3), c = $20.335(7)\AA$, $\alpha$ = 103.53(3), $\beta$ = 90.00(5), $\gamma$ = $112.38(5)^{\circ}$, Z = 2, $V = 1363(2){\AA}^3\;D_c = 1.639\;gcm^{-3},\;{\mu} = 7.3\;cm^{-1},\;F(000) = 680.0$. The intensity data were collected with $Mo-K\alpha$ radiation (${\lambda}$= 0.7107\;\AA)$ on an automatic four-circle diffractometer with a graphite monochromater. The structure was solved by Patterson method and refined by full matrix least-square methods using Killean & Lawrence weights. The final R and S values were $R = 0.069,\;R_w = 0.050,\;R_{all} = 0.069$ and S = 5.45 for 3120 observed reflections. Both cation and anion complexes are essentially planar and have dihedral angles of 6.3(6) and $57.06(6)^{\circ}$ between their planes. The planar complex anions are sandwiched between slightly bent cations. The interplanar separations of two triads are 3.328 and 3.463 $\AA$, respectively. The triads are stacked along b-axis, but their orientations are different based on dihedral angle $59.08(9)^{\circ}$ of two complex anions.

  • Corticosteroids are commonly used for pain control in rotator cuff tear. Deregulated $NF-{\kappa}B$ activation is a hallmark of chronic inflammatory diseases and has been responsible for the pathogenesis of rotator cuff tear. The Dexamethasone(DEXA) is a synthetic corticosteroid. The purpose of this study was to examine the exact effect of dexamethasone on $NF-{\kappa}B$ signaling in rotator cuff tear. We measured $NF-{\kappa}B$ expression in four groups: control, $TNF-{\alpha}$-treated, DEXA-treated, and combined treatment with $TNF-{\alpha}$ and DEXA. Tenocytes were isolated from patients with rotator cuff tears and pre-incubated with $TNF-{\alpha}$ (10 ng/ml), DEXA ($1{\mu}M$), or both of them for 10 min, 1 h, and 2 h. Expression of p65, p50, and p52 in the nuclei and cytosol was analyzed by western blotting and immunofluorescence imaging using confocal microscopy. We also evaluated nucleus/cytosol (N/C) ratios of p65, p50, and p52. In our study, the combined treatment with DEXA and $TNF-{\alpha}$ showed increased N/C ratios of p65, p50, and p52 compared with those in the $TNF-{\alpha}$ group at all time points. Additionally, in the DEXA group, N/C ratios of p65, p50, and p52 gradually increased from 10 min to 2 h. In conclusion, DEXA promoted the nuclear localization of p65, p50, and p52, but was not effective in inhibiting the inflammatory response of $TNF-{\alpha}$-stimulated rotator cuff tear.
