Factors Affecting Gelatinization Temperature of Rice Starch (쌀 전분의 호화온도에 영향을 주는 요인들)

  • Factors affecting gelatinization temperature of rice starches from different varieties were investigated. Birefringence end-point temperature(BEPT), amylose content, granule size distribution and degree of crystallinity of rice starches showed the significant varietal differences at ${\alpha}\;=0.01$. Susceptibility of the granule to gelatininzation was dependent mainly on the degree of crystallinity, as indicated by the significant positive correlation between BEPT and the relative crystallinity(r=0.67, p<0.01). However, granule size distribution did not affect the GT(gelatinization temperature) range, nor did amylose electron microscopy (SEM). SEM also confirmed that there is no relationship between the size and the shape and the amylose content of the rice starch.

  • To improve the mechanical properties of $Al_2$O$_3$/ZrO$_2$composites, the homogeneous dispersion of ultra low size ZrO$_2$ particles in $Al_2$O$_3$ceramics have been controlled by coprecipitation method. In case of mechanical mixing of ZrO$_2$ powders with $Al_2$O$_3$, homogeneous dispersion and controlling the ZrO$_2$ size were relatively difficult due to high sintering temperature. So nanosized Zr hydroxide was coprecipitated from ZrOCl$_2$/Y(NO$_3$)$_3$ solution with commercial sub-micron sized $\alpha$-alumina (Sumitomo : AES-11(0.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$)) and high purity ultra low sized $\alpha$-alumina (Taimei Chemical (0.22 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$)) for low temperature sintering. By this partial coprecipitation method, relatively low sized ZrO$_2$ dispersion in $Al_2$O$_3$/ZrO$_2$ composites was achieved at 150$0^{\circ}C$-1$600^{\circ}C$ of sintering temperature range and their mechanical properties were measured.

  • A theoretical expression for determining the effective magnetic moment of hematite(${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$) particle of the parasitic ferromagnetism by the proton relaxation in water is derived. In deriving the expression it is found that the mathematical procedures are exactly the same as those applied for aqueous solutions containing free paramagnetic ions, except that the distance between the proton spin of water molecule and the corresponding electronic spin of the particle must be considered to be a radius vector rather than a relative distance. And it is also found that the average effective magnetic moment of the particle calculated by the expression is in good agreement with the experimental value determined by Hirai.

  • Nano-sized a-alumina with a narrow distribution was prepared by using Flame Spray Pyrolysis (FSP). The microemulsion of water in oil (W/O) was prepared to make ultrafine droplets for FSP process. Kerosene (fuel) as a continuos phase and Al(NO$_3$)$_3$$.$9$H_2O$ (oxidizer) aqueous solution as a dispersed phase were prepared for microemulsification. The microemulsion with dispersion stability was obtained by adjusting the composition of 80 vol% kerosene, 10 vol% aqueous solution, and 10 vol% emulsifying agent. Microemulsion was sprayed onto the flame by using two-fluid nozzle spray gun under the condition of 0.03 ㎫ air pressure. The synthesized products were $\alpha$-alumina phase with the size of 20 to 30 nm.

  • Loading of hydrophobic ${\alpha}$-tocopherol into nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) was performed for improving its oxidative stability. First, various NLCs with different constituents and mixing ratios were prepared and their characteristics were investigated. While the stable NLCs were made when cetyl palmitate (CP) or glyceryl monosterate (GMS) was used as a solid lipid, the phase separation occurred in the NLCs consisting of stearic acid. Particle sizes of the NLCs were several hundreds of nanometers and the size decreased with increasing the ratio of solvent to lipid. It was examined from DSC thermogram and anisotropy test that the degree of crystallinity of the lipid phase decreased and the lipid matrix became less ordered when octyldodecanol, a long chain fatty alcohol, was added into the solid lipid. The oxidative stability of ${\alpha}$-tocopherol in NLC was remarkably improved compared to that in solution or emulsion under high temperature ($45^{\circ}C$) and UV radiation, which was verified through DPPH test and peroxide value measurement.

Highly dispersed $Ru/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ Catalyst development for selective CO oxidation reaction (선택적 CO 산화반응을 위한 고분산된 $Ru/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 촉매개발)

  • 선택적 CO 산화반응(PrOx)을 위한 Ru이 고분산 담지된 $Ru/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 촉매를 증착-침전법(deposition-precipitation)으로 제조하였다. 용액의 pH와 aging 시간에 따른 Ru 입자의 크기 변화와 분산도의 영향을 살펴보았으며 함침법(impregnation)으로 비교 촉매를 제조하였다. 촉매의 특성분석은 BET, TPR, CO-Chemisorption분석을 수행하여 촉매의 비표면적, 환원특성, 분산도를 알 수 있었다. 특성분석결과, 증착-침전법으로 제조한 $Ru/{\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 촉매가 함침법으로 제조한 촉매에 비해 분산도가 높았으며, pH별 촉매 제조에서는 pH6.5로 제조한 촉매가 22.06%로 가장 높은 분산도를 보였다. 또한, 담체의 비표면적 영향에 따른 Ru 입자의 분산도를 살펴보기 위해 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 담체를 적용한 결과, 비표면적이 작은 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ 담체 표면에서 Ru 분산도가 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 담체에 비해 높았다. 이는 기공이 발달하여 비표면적이 넓은 ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ 담체는 소량의 Ru을 고분산 담지 시 담체 표면보다는 기공 내에 담지 되는 양이 많아 실제 반응 시 반응에 참여하는 표면 활성 금속양이 적음을 알 수 있다. 특히, 선택적 산화반응과 같이 표면에서 빠른 반응이 일어나는 경우, 기공 내부의 활성금속이 반응에 참여하기 어려워 반응 활성이 낮음을 PrOx 반응실험을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. PrOx test 조건은 GHSV 250000~60000, 온도는 80~200도, 람다값은 2~4로 성능 비교하여 실험 하였다. PrOx의 성능평가 결과 담체를 ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$를 사용하여 deposition-precipitation방법으로 제조한 pH6.5 촉매에서 $100{\sim}160^{\circ}C$에서 90%의 가장 높은 CO conversion을 가지고 18%의 선택도를 가졌다.
