  • It has been investigated what kind of characteristic X-ray in electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA) is effective for the determination of compounds of Si series materials. After comparing the characteristic X-rays among the primary and secondary lines in $K_{\alpha}$ and $K_{\beta}$ obtained from the Si series standard samples, it was found that the secondary line of $K_{\alpha}$ exhibited the most informative spectrum although the intensity was considerably weak. As a result of analyzing the spectrum shapes of the Si series standard samples, the spectrum shape of the secondary line of $K_{\alpha}$ for SiC was different from those for other Si compounds. To grasp the characteristics of the shape, a line was perpendicularly drawn from the peak top to base line in order to divide a spectrum into two areas. The area ratio of right to left was defined to call as the asymmetry index here. As a result, the asymmetry index value of the SiC was greater than one, while those of other Si compounds were less than one. It was found from the EPMA analysis that identification of SiC became successful to distinguish from other Si compounds and this method was applicable for micro-sized compounds in a practical composite material.

  • The detector consisted of ZnS(Ag) scintillator and photomultiplier tube (PMT) is widely used as contamination monitor in the nuclear facilities. Such detectors are mainly manufactured by adhering the ZnS(Ag) powder onto the transparent plastic. In this study the preparation condition for ZnS(Ag) scintillator sheet using a simple method was established. The scintillator sheet was composed with a support polymer sheet and ZnS(Ag) scintillator layer. The base sheet was prepared by casting the polymer solution after solving the polymer with solvent and the scintillator layer was manufactured by printing the mixture solution with ZnS(Ag) and paste. It was found that the polysulfone(PSf) as a polymer for the base sheet and a cyano resin as a paste for adhering the ZnS(Ag) scintillator was suitable. Also, the prepared thin scintillator sheet had a sufficient mechanical strength, a optical transparency and an alpha-ray detection performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to develope an accurate procedure for measuring the glass content of fly ash produced by bituminous coal to assist in predicting their behavior in concrete. Quantitative mineralogical compositions of fly ashes were obtained by internal standard method using powder X-ray diffraction analysis. In the X-ray diffraction method, the specimen and standard fluorite were cautiously mixed and pulverized to 22$\mu$m in wet process so as to avoid the prefered orientation of the crystal and microabsorption effect of X-ray. calibration curve were fitted for several references peaks of four phases:$\alpha$-quartz. mullite, magnetite, hematite. The amount of glass was calculated by subtracting the amount of crystal phase and loss on ignition from the total amount. Glass content determined with this method ranged from 66.7 to 75.wt%.

  • The characteristic X-rays emitted from materials after gamma ray exposure was simulated and measured. A CdTe semiconductor detector and a $^{57}Co$ radiation source were used for energy spectroscopy. The types of materials could be identified by comparing the measured energy spectrum with the theoretical X-ray transition energy of the material. The sample composition was represented by the $K_{\alpha1}$-line (Siegbahn notations), which has the highest intensity among the characteristic X-rays of each atom. The difference between the theoretic prediction and the experimental result of K-line measurement was < 0.61% even if the characteristic X-rays from several materials were measured simultaneously. 2D images of the mixed materials were acquired with very high selectivity.

  • Gamma-ray induced copolymerization of phenyl acetylene with styrene is compared with that of the Ziegler catalyzed. The reactivity of styrene is greater than that of phenyl acetylene in the gamma-ray induced polymerization but much less than that of phenyl acetylene in the Ziegler catalyzed. The resulting copolymer is identified by means of DTA and spectrophotometry. Further, the liquid scintillation counting of styrene-${\alpha}-C^{14}$clarified the relative composition of the copolymers.

  • The Study In order to obtain a Clear Image of fractures in Atlas and Axis of Cervical Spin, this Study obtained Images examined using a Cervical Spin Pantom and a Radiation device, and then Commissioned five Radiologists and three Orthopedic Regent Doctors for Subjective Psychological ROC (Receiver, Operation, Characteristic) Evaluation. As aRresult, the X-ray Tube was Tilted 15° toward the leg to Receive a high score of 29 Points during the Eamination, and the Objective Evaluation Signal-to-noise Ratio (SNR) was 6.032 points, which was high. In Addition, by Tilting the X-ray tube 10° toward the head, it received a high score of 33 points during the Examination, and a high score of 7.840 Points in the objective evaluation. And as a result of Subjectively and Objectively Statistically Evaluating the Examined Images, the Cronbach Alpha value was Calculated as 0.791. Since the Cronbach Alpha value was 0.7 or higher, the Reliability could be Evaluated as 'very good', and the significance probability (p) was Statistically Significant at 0.042 points.

  • The preparation and toughening of SiC-AIN solid solution from powder mixtures of $\beta$-SiC, AIN and $\alpha$-SiC by hot-pressing were studied in the 1870 to $2030^{\circ}C$ temperature range. The reaction of AIN and $\beta$-SiC(3C) powders causing transformation to the 2H(wurtzite) structure appeared to depend on hot-pressing temperatures and an additive of $\alpha$-SiC. For the composition of 49wt% SiC with 2 wt% $\alpha$-SiC and 47.5 wt% AIN47.5wt% SiC with 5 wt % $\alpha$-SiC at 203$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, th complete solid solutions with a single phase of 2H could be obtained. The appreciable amount of $\alpha$-SiC could develop the columnar inter-grains of 4H phase and the stable 2H phase with the relatively uniform composition and grain size distributions. The effect of $\alpha$-SiC on the phases present and compositional microstructures with columnar inter-grains was invetigated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The fracture toughness and Vickers hardness of the hot-pressed solid solutions wre examined by the indentation-fracture-test method.

  • Effects of acid and ${\alpha}$-amylase on resistant starches including retrograded RS3 and cross-linked RS4 prepared from normal maize starch were investigated. Acid and ${\alpha}$-amylase hydrolytic patterns of RS3 were similar, while those of native starch and RS4 differed. Acid hydrolysis rate of RS3 was markedly higher at initial stage, then slowly decreased up to 20 days, whereas that of RS4 increased continuously. The sizes of acid- and ${\alpha}$-amylase-treated RS3 residues decreased, but those of RS4 remained unchanged. X-ray patterns of all treated residues did not change; however, the peak intensities increased. Swelling power of RS3 increased to 150% at $95^{\circ}C$, whereas that of RS4 differed depending on the treatment condition. Swelling power of acid-treated RS4 residue increased markedly, but that of ${\alpha}$-amylase-treated one remained constant. Gel filtration chromatography profiles of untreated RS3 and RS4 residues were similar, whereas that of acid-treated RS4 residue was different from them. RS showed different hydrolytic behavior by acid and ${\alpha}$-amylase depending on the type, and susceptibility of RS3 was higher than that of RS4.

  • A Abstract Systematic studies of the effects of crystalline forms of starting powders and p processing variables on the texture of hot - pressed silicon carbide are described. The results I indicate that hot - pressing of $\beta$ - SiC can produce strong textures and composite type duplex microstructure due to the ${\beta} {\rightarrow} {\alpha}$ phase transformation of SiC. The texture variations d during post - annealing have been observed. In the case of using a - SiC as starting pow¬d ders, the degree of preferred orientation by hot - pressing is relatively weak.

  • To decompose carbon dioxide, magnetite was synthesized with 0.2M-FeSO4$.$7H2O and 0.5 M-NaOH by coprecipitation. The deoxidized magnetite was prepared from the magnetite by hydrogen reduction for 1, 1.5, 2 hr. The degree of hydrogen reduction and the decomposition rate of carbon dioxide were investigated with hydrogen reduction time. The crystal structure of the magnetite was identified spinel structute by the X-ray powder diffractions. After magnetite was reduced by hydrogen, magnetite reduced by hydrogen become new phae(${\alpha}$-Fe2O3, ${\alpha}$-Fe) and spinel type simultaneously. After decomposing of carbon dioxide at 350$^{\circ}C$, new phse(${\alpha}$-Fe2O3, ${\alpha}$-Fe) were removed and the spinel type only existed. The specific surface area of the synthesized magnetite was 46.69㎡/g. With the increase of the hydrogen reduction time, the grain size, the hydrogen reduction degree and the decomposition rate of carbon dioxide was increased.
