  • For a G-map ${\phi}:X{\rightarrow}X$, we define and characterize the Reidemeister number $R_G({\phi})$ of ${\phi}$. Also, we prove that $R_G({\phi})$ is a G-homotopy invariance and we obtain a lower bound of $R_G({\phi})$.

  • Let (H, g) denote the upper half plane in $R^2$ with the Riemannian metric g := ($(dx)^2$ + $(dy)^2$)$/y^2$. First of all we get a necessary and sufficient condition for a diffeomorphism $\phi$ of (H, g) to be a harmonic map. And, we obtain the fact that if a diffeomorphism $\phi$ of (H, g) is a harmonic function, then the following facts are equivalent: (1) $\phi$ is a harmonic map; (2) $\phi$ is an affine transformation; (3) $\phi$ is an isometry (motion).

  • Let A standard operator algebra which does not contain the identity operator, acting on a Hilbert space of dimension greater than one. If ${\Phi}$ is a bijective Lie map from A onto an arbitrary algebra, that is $${\phi}$$(AB-BA)=$${\phi}(A){\phi}(B)-{\phi}(B){\phi}(A)$$ for all A, B${\in}$A, then ${\phi}$ is additive. Also, if A contains the identity operator, then there exists a bijective Lie map of A which is not additive.

  • Let $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ be two unital $C^*$-algebras. Denote by W(a) the numerical range of an element $a{\in}\mathcal{A}$. We show that the condition W(ax) = W(bx), ${\forall}x{\in}\mathcal{A}$ implies that a = b. Using this, among other results, it is proved that if ${\phi}$ : $\mathcal{A}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{B}$ is a surjective map such that $W({\phi}(a){\phi}(b){\phi}(c))=W(abc)$ for all a, b and $c{\in}\mathcal{A}$, then ${\phi}(1){\in}Z(B)$ and the map ${\psi}={\phi}(1)^2{\phi}$ is multiplicative.

  • We first show that if $\psi : M_n(B(H)) \to M_n (B(H))$ is a $D_n \otimes F(H)$-bimodule map, then there is a matrix $A \in M_n$ such that $\psi = S_A$. Secondly, we show that for an operator space $\varepsilon, A \in M_n$, the Schur product map $S_A : M_n(\varepsilon) \to M_n(\varepsilon)$ and $\phi_A : M_n(\varepsilon) \to \varepsilon$, defined by $\phi_A([x_{ij}]) = \sum^{n}_{i,j=1}{a_{ij}x_{ij}}$, we have $\Vert S_A \Vert = \Vert S_A \Vert_{cb} = \Vert A \Vert_S, \Vert \phi_A \Vert = \Vert \phi_A \Vert_{cb} = \Vert A \Vert_1$ and obtain some characterizations of A for which $S_A$ is contractive.

  • The disjoint union of mapping class groups of surfaces forms a braided monoidal category $\mathcal{M}$, as the disjoint union of the braid groups $\mathcal{B}$ does. We give a concrete and geometric meaning of the braidings ${\beta}_{r,s}$ in $\mathcal{M}$. Moreover, we find a set of elements in the mapping class groups which correspond to the standard generators of the braid groups. Using this, we can define an obvious map ${\phi}\;:\;B_g{\rightarrow}{\Gamma}_{g,1}$. We show that this map ${\phi}$ is injective and nongeometric in the sense of Wajnryb. Since this map extends to a braided monoidal functor ${\Phi}\;:\;\mathcal{B}{\rightarrow}\mathcal{M}$, the integral homology homomorphism induced by ${\phi}$ is trivial in the stable range.

  • An analytic self-map ${\phi}$ of the open unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ in the complex plane and an analytic map ${\psi}$ on $\mathbb{D}$ induce the so-called weighted composition operator $C_{{\phi},{\psi}}$: $H(\mathbb{D})\;{\rightarrow}\;H(\mathbb{D})$, $f{\mapsto} \;{\psi}\;(f\;o\;{\phi})$, where H($\mathbb{D}$) denotes the set of all analytic functions on $\mathbb{D}$. We study when such an operator acting between different weighted Bergman spaces is bounded, compact and Schatten class.

  • Let A be a uniform algebra, and let $\phi$ be a self-map of the spectrum $M_A$ of A that induces a composition operator $C_{\phi}$, on A. It is shown that the image of $M_A$ under some iterate ${\phi}^n$ of \phi is hyperbolically bounded if and only if \phi has a finite number of attracting cycles to which the iterates of $\phi$ converge. On the other hand, the image of the spectrum of A under $\phi$ is not hyperbolically bounded if and only if there is a subspace of $A^{**}$ "almost" isometric to ${\ell}_{\infty}$ on which ${C_{\phi}}^{**}$ "almost" an isometry. A corollary of these characterizations is that if $C_{\phi}$ is weakly compact, and if the spectrum of A is connected, then $\phi$ has a unique fixed point, to which the iterates of $\phi$ converge. The corresponding theorem for compact composition operators was proved in 1980 by H. Kamowitz [17].

ON ϕ-PSEUDO ALMOST VALUATION RINGS

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new class of rings that is closely related to the classes of pseudo valuation rings (PVRs) and pseudo-almost valuation domains (PAVDs). A commutative ring R is said to be ${\phi}$-ring if its nilradical Nil(R) is both prime and comparable with each principal ideal. The name is derived from the natural map ${\phi}$ from the total quotient ring T(R) to R localized at Nil(R). A prime ideal P of a ${\phi}$-ring R is said to be a ${\phi}$-pseudo-strongly prime ideal if, whenever $x,y{\in}R_{Nil(R)}$ and $(xy){\phi}(P){\subseteq}{\phi}(P)$, then there exists an integer $m{\geqslant}1$ such that either $x^m{\in}{\phi}(R)$ or $y^m{\phi}(P){\subseteq}{\phi}(P)$. If each prime ideal of R is a ${\phi}$-pseudo strongly prime ideal, then we say that R is a ${\phi}$-pseudo-almost valuation ring (${\phi}$-PAVR). Among the properties of ${\phi}$-PAVRs, we show that a quasilocal ${\phi}$-ring R with regular maximal ideal M is a ${\phi}$-PAVR if and only if V = (M : M) is a ${\phi}$-almost chained ring with maximal ideal $\sqrt{MV}$. We also investigate the overrings of a ${\phi}$-PAVR.

  • Let $M_n$ be the algebra of all complex $n{\times}n$ matrices and ${\phi}:M_n{\rightarrow}M_n$ a surjective map (not necessarily additive or multiplicative) satisfying one of the following equations: $${\det}({\phi}(A){\phi}(B)+{\phi}(X))={\det}(AB+X),\;A,B,X{\in}M_n,\\{\sigma}({\phi}(A){\phi}(B)+{\phi}(X))={\sigma}(AB+X),\;A,B,X{\in}M_n$$. Then it is an automorphism, where ${\sigma}(A)$ is the spectrum of $A{\in}M_n$. We also show that if $\mathfrak{A}$ be a standard operator algebra, $\mathfrak{B}$ is a unital Banach algebra with trivial center and if ${\phi}:\mathfrak{A}{\rightarrow}\mathfrak{B}$ is a multiplicative surjection preserving spectrum, then ${\phi}$ is an algebra isomorphism.
