This paper presents an ultra-low partial discharge(PD) measurement system that has been accepted as a non-destructive method to estimate electrical insulation of low-voltage electric devices. The PD measurement system is composed of a coupling network, a low noise amplifier, and associated electronics. A shielding box is used to make a better condition against electromagnetic interference. A low cut-off frequency of the coupling network was 1MHz(-3 dB). Calibration tests on laboratory set-up have shown that the PD measurement system has a stable sensitivity of 11.4mV/pC. In an application experiment on a low-voltage induction motor(5HP), we could detect 0.77pC level of partial discharge pulse at the applied voltage of AC 664 V$_{peak}$.
For an effective pre-treatment process of a face input image, it is necessary to detect each of face components, calculate the face area, and estimate the rotary angle of the face. A proposed method of this study can estimate an robust result under such renditions as some different levels of illumination, variable fate sizes, fate rotation angels, and background color similar to skin color of the face. The first step of the proposed method detects the estimated face area that can be calculated by both adapted skin color Information of the band-wide HSV color coordinate converted from RGB coordinate, and skin color Information using histogram. Using the results of the former processes, we can detect a lip area within an estimated face area. After estimating a rotary angle slope of the lip area along the X axis, the method determines the face shape based on face information. After detecting eyes in face area by matching a partial template which is made with both eyes, we can estimate Y axis rotary angle by calculating the eye´s locations in three dimensional space in the reference of the face area. As a result of the experiment on various face images, the effectuality of proposed algorithm was verified.

This paper presents the diagnostic method for fault prevention in metal clad switchgear(MCS) through comparison of signals before and after detecting the partial discharge using electromagnetic detection technique. Electromagnetic waves detected by antennas of the inside and outside of MCS are analyzed and compared by frequency spectrum analysis method which can estimate an insulation abnormality and normality of MCS. As a result of the experiment by the proposed method, we can detect the insulation abnormality as partial discharge in MCS and these results can be applied to preventive diagnosis of MCS.
This paper discusses the problem of partial object recognition in image databases. We propose the method to reconstruct and estimate partially occluded shapes and regions of objects in images from overlapping and cutting. We present the robust method for recognizing partially occluded objects based on symmetry properties, which is based on an ellipse of objects. Our method provides simple techniques to reconstruct occluded regions via a region copy using the symmetry axis within an object. Since our method relies on reconstruction of the object based on the symmetry rather than statistical estimates, it has proven to be remarkably robust in recognizing partially occluded objects in the presence of scale changes, rotation, and viewpoint changes.

It is very important to estimate static squeezing pressure distributions for lining material of sterntube after bearing at dry dock stage since the maximum squeezing pressure value can be one of the significant characteristics representing coming navigation performances of the propulsion system. Moderate oil film pressure between lining material and propulsion shaft is also essential for safe ship service. In this paper, Hertz contact theory is explained to derive static squeezing pressure. Reynolds equation simplified from Navier-Stokes equation is centrally differentiated to numerically obtain dynamic oil film pressures. New shaft alignment technology of nonlinear elastic multi-support bearing elements is also used in order to obtain external forces acting on lining material of bearing. For 300K DWT class VLCC with synthetic bush of sterntube after bearing, static squeezing pressures are calculated using derived external forces and Hertz contact theory. Optimum partial slope of the after bush is presented by parametric shaft alignment analyses. Dynamic oil film pressures are comparatively evaluated for partially bored and unbored after bush. Finally it is proved that the partial slope can drastically reduce oil film pressure during engine running.

Partial discharges (PDs) are electrical sparks that occur inside insulation between two conducting electrodes and can lead to the disastrous failure of insulation systems. To determine the location of a PD, a distributed array of UHF PD sensors is used to detect the electromagnetic (EM) signals emitted from the PD source, and the localization of the PD source can be estimated using the time difference of arrival (TDOA) between EM signals captured by the UHF PD sensor array. There are four popular methods to estimate the TDOA-the first peak method, the cross-correlation method, the energy criterion method, and the average time window threshold method. In this work, we numerically investigate the influence of noise on estimating the TDOA for the four different methods. Numerical results show that the energy criterion method is more robust against noise than other methods.

Investment scenarios in the transportation network design problem usually contain installation or expansion of multi-mode transportation links. When one applies the mode choice analysis and traffic assignment sequentially for each investment scenario, it is possible that the travel impedance used in the mode choice analysis is different from the user equilibrium cost of the traffic assignment step. Therefore, to estimate the travel impedance and mode choice accurately, one needs to develop a combined model for the mode choice and traffic assignment. In this paper, we derive the inverse demand and the excess demand functions for the multi-mode multinomial logit mode choice function and develop a combined model for the multi-mode variable demand traffic assignment problem. Using data from the regional O/D and network data provided by the KTDB, we compared the performance of the partial linearization algorithm with the Frank-Wolfe algorithm applied to the excess demand model and with the sequential heuristic procedures.

The present paper describes the setup of standard partial discharge calibrator for measuring partial discharge and estimating uncertainties. The standard PD calibrator was designed and set up, consisting of a digital pulse generator, capacitor modules, and a digital oscilloscope controlled by software developed in the laboratory. Using this software, averages of charges and rising times and their standard deviations in the measured pulses can also be calculated. The standard PD calibrator generates five types of pulses: single, double, random, oscillating, and long-rising. The coefficient sensitivities to estimate the uncertainties of pulses were extracted in the model circuit of the standard PD calibrator. The uncertainties of charges and rising times in pulses of the standard PD calibrator were estimated with single pulses. These values were 0.3%-1.4% in charges and 1.9%-7.0% in rising time; however, these values are lower than the limit values in IEC 60270.
Extensive literature exists on how to estimate optimal thresholds based on various accuracy measures using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and cumulative accuracy profile (CAP) curves. This paper now proposes an alternative measure to represented the specific partial area under the ROC and CAP curves. The relationship between ROC and CAP functions is examined using differential equations of the new defined partial area under curves. In addition, the relationship with the optimal thresholds under conditions of various accuracy measures for the ROC and CAP functions is also derived. We assume there are two kinds of distribution functions composing the mixed distribution as various normal distributions before finding the optimal thresholds. Corresponding type 1 and 2 errors are also explored and discussed under various conditions for accuracy measures.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of occlusal stability to identify action mechanisms of mouthguards, known to have a modulatory effect on limb muscle function. MATERIALS AND METHODS. This study included 20 male subjects to perform the isokinetic muscle tests and the Wingate anaerobic power test on both knee joints under five closed-mouth conditions: without or with 4 types of mouthguards with thickness of 2 mm based on premolar area: (1) full-coverage, (2) anterior partial-coverage, (3) right posterior partial-coverage, and (4) left posterior partial-coverage. The obtained results were subjected to One-way ANOVA with repeated measures, followed by post hoc test of the contrast method (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. There was no significant difference between the closed position with and without a full-coverage mouthguard in all variables. However, significant differences were observed between with and without a partial-coverage mouthguard in muscular endurance during extension of the left knee, muscular power and endurance during flexion of the right knee. Additionally, significant differences were found between occlusal states with full- and partial-coverage mouthguards in muscular power and endurance during extension of the left knee. CONCLUSION. These findings indicate the elevation of vertical dimension by 2 mm or the inducement of occlusal stability had little effect on isokinetic muscle strength and anaerobic performance, while uneven distribution of occlusal force might have some positive effects.
