  • The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of using the WorldCat, an International Union Catalog operated by OCLC as a tool for analyzing the trend of knowledge distribution in libraries around the world. In this study, four subject keywords, that is, Korea, Korean, Japan, and Japanese, were used to search materials related to Korea and Japan, and four facets, including medium, genre, language, and user level, were used to categorize search results from the WorldCat. The result shows that information resources related to Korea held by libraries around the world are only a little more than a third of Japan-related information resources. Especially Korea-related information resources for juveniles are less in numbers and lack in diversity in languages, media and genres, when compared with Japan-related information resources. Also an examination of two bibliographic records demonstrates that viewpoints expressed in user contributed reviews might affect diffusion of knowledge on certain subjects in the Next Generation Library Catalog.

  • This research applies both point-wise and pair-wise learning strategies within the learning-to-rank (LTR) framework to predict horse race rankings in Seoul. Specifically, for point-wise learning, we employ a linear model and random forest. In contrast, for pair-wise learning, we utilize tools such as RankNet, and LambdaMART (XGBoost Ranker, LightGBM Ranker, and CatBoost Ranker). Furthermore, to enhance predictions, race records are standardized based on race distance, and we integrate various datasets, including race information, jockey information, horse training records, and trainer information. Our results empirically demonstrate that pair-wise learning approaches that can reflect the order information between items generally outperform point-wise learning approaches. Notably, CatBoost Ranker is the top performer. Through Shapley value analysis, we identified that the important variables for CatBoost Ranker include the performance of a horse, its previous race records, the count of its starting trainings, the total number of starting trainings, and the instances of disease diagnoses for the horse.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel blind digital watermarking method based on a cellular automata transform (CAT). CAT is based on dynamic systems known as cellular automata(CA) and uses transform bases which are differently defined by a rule number, the number of neighbors, the number of cells, and an initial state, etc. The proposed CAT based method is compared with a blind watermarking method based on DWT which is commonly used for a domain transform in signal processing. We analyse properties on changes of DWT coefficients and CAT coefficients under various attacks and determine optimal parameters for a watermarking method robust to attacks. The simulations show that the watermarked images with high PSNR and MSSIM look visually identical to originals and are robust against most of typical image processing attacks. Moreover, the proposed CAT based watermarking method is superior to the DWT based one in robustness to most of typical image processing attacks including JPEG compression, median and average filtering, scaling, cropping, and histogram equalization.

  • Recently, streaming service accounts for large part of internet traffic and it is becoming the most popular service. Because of P2P's scalability, P2P-based streaming system is proposed. There are frequent leave and join of a node. To overcome the group dynamics, Multiple Multicast Trees Methods were suggested. However, since they did not consider discrepancy in peers' capacity, it may cause the trees to be long and unstable. So we suggest Resilient Capacity-Aware Multicast Tree construction scheme (R-CAT) that promotes superior peer to upper position in the tree and construct more stable and short multicast trees. By simulation we can show that R-CAT cost more overhead packets for tree joining process, but it reduce the end-to-end delay of the resulting tree and the number of packets lost during the node joining and leaving processes much more than SplitStream.

  • Cats are known to express their emotions through a variety of vocalizations during interactions. These sounds reflect their emotional states, making the understanding and interpretation of these sounds crucial for more effective communication. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence has introduced research related to emotion recognition, particularly focusing on the analysis of voice data using deep learning models. Building on this background, the study aims to develop a deep learning system that classifies and generates cat sounds based on their emotional content. The classification model is trained to accurately categorize cat vocalizations by emotion. The sound generation model, which uses deep learning based models such as SampleRNN, is designed to produce cat sounds that reflect specific emotional states. The study finally proposes an integrated system that takes recorded cat vocalizations, classify them by emotion, and generate cat sounds based on user requirements.

  • A duplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection method was developed to authenticate the use of cat and rabbit in food and to prevent unlawful distribution of illegally butchered meat in both domestic and imported food market. Species-specific primers were designed targeting mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. The sizes of PCR products were 191 bp for cat and 101 bp for rabbit, which were relatively small for better application of the detection method on processed foods. Specificities of primers were verified using 21 animal species including cat and rabbit. Limit of detection was examined by serial dilution of the sample DNA and confirmed as 0.005 ng for rabbit and 0.0005 ng for cat using Bioanalyzer. The developed duplex PCR method showed specificity and sensitivity in the identification of two target species.
