  • The purpose of this study was to propose the marketing strategy for the local foodservice industry which can lead to successful business in keen competitive foodservice industry by adapting community residents' dining-out behaviors. A total of 350 adults (291 collected, 102 men and 188 women) was surveyed with a questionnaire about the frequency of dining-out, company when out to eat, proper price for one meal, reasons why one chooses a specific restaurant, and general information. Data was analyzed by SPSS/win 7.5. Over the 1/3 of residents (36.3%) ate out 1-2 times a week and slightly over the 1/4 of residents (26.4%) did so 1-2 times a month. Usually men did more dining out than women. Teachers/ professors' (52.6%) dined out 1-2 times a week. Respondents with 1-2 million won of monthly income (46.4%) ate out 1-2 times a week. Almost 3/4 of respondents chose Korean restaurant. The main factors affected selecting the specific restaurant were 'cleanliness of food and atmosphere of restaurant', and 'reasonable price'. More than 1/3 of respondents (38.9%) answered 5,000-8,000 won was reasonable price for eating-out. Respondents in 20's dined out with friends (70.4%) and friends (43.0%) chose the specific restaurant; on the other hand, the other age groups usually dined out accompanied by family (60.7 - 73.7%) and respected spouse or children's opinion when selecting a restaurant. • This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the food and nutrient intake status and eating-out practices of college students. A dietary survey of 361 subjects living in urban areas was conducted by using a 3-day diet record method. The average ages of the male and female subjects were 22.0 and 20.6 years old, respectively. Monthly personal expenses of the male and female students were 316,517 won and 296,888 won, respectively. 43.1% of the male and 50.8% of the female students used between one-quarter and one-half of their monthly personal expenses for eating out. Sixty-five percent of the total subjects ate out more than five times a week The average daily total food intake was 1630.7g in the males and 1453.9g in the females. The average percentage of total food intake from eating out (by weight) was 60.6% in the males and 56.2% in the females; foods eaten out were mainly potatoes, meats, processed foods, and beverages. It was found that 40-65% of daily total nutrient intake came from food eaten out. When they ate out, the male students ate slightly higher amounts of protein, fat and vitamin B1, while the female students ate relatively higher amounts of animal protein, fat, vitamin A and cholesterol. The more the subjects ate out, the more the quantity of total food intake increased. This increase resulted from high intakes of beverages and processed foods in the males, while the increase was from total plant foods, mushrooms, beverages, and milk and dairy products, in the females. The dietary variety score (DVS) was significantly increased in the female subjects when they ate out more than once a day; otherwise, the DVS was not significantly different between any of the male and female groups. The intakes of energy, and of many nutrients such as protein, fat, carbohydrates, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium and cholesterol, were increased when the female subjects ate out more than twice a day. The mean adequacy ratio (MAR) was at its highest level of 0.65 in the males when they ate out less than once a day, and at its highest level of 0.67 in the females when they ate out more than twice a day.

  • The principal objectives of this study were to identify diet problems associated with dining out, and to suggest dining out strategies for groups with diet problems. The data collected from adults(all over 20 years old) from the third Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III(KNHANES III), conducted in 2005, were used in this study. A total of 6,497 data were included in our statistical analyses, using SPSS 14.0. The results of this study demonstrated that there were significant differences in dining out frequency between different genders(p<0.001), ages(p<0.001), and economic status (p<0.001). With the crosstabulation analysis using the Chi-square statistics, the middle class males aged $20{\sim}29$(p<0.05), and lower class females aged 65 and over evidenced different degrees of compliance with the following guidelines. 'Eat a variety of foods' varied by frequency of dining out. In addition, the degree of compliance with the guidelines 'Increase activity and eat an adequate amount of foods for weight control', 'Enjoy the Korean traditional diet', and 'Control consumption of alcohol' also differed by dining out frequency in certain populations. With these results, dining out strategies were suggested for the groups with diet problems associated with dining out.

  • The purpose of this study was to confirm the effects of flush-out in the reduction of formaldehyde concentration in newly built residential buildings. The field measurements were conducted on two complexes of multi-residential buildings which are located in the suburban area of Seoul. About eight samples of residential buildings were selected to measure the changes in formaldehyde concentrations after flush-out from the two apartment complexes. The concentration of formaldehyde was measured using DNPH cartridge and HPLC. From the results of the field measurements, it was established that indoor formaldehyde concentration decreases 27.6~54.2% in the samples after flush-out. The number of days that the flush-out were conducted was noted to have no significant influence on the reduction rate of formaldehyde concentration when the flush-out continued more than 7 days. The comparison with Bake-out showed that flush-out also can reduce formaldehyde in newly built buildings as same levels of it.
