A Study of Contents Analysis on Questioning Daehan- Sin- Gygi - Focusing on the Contents of Physical Geography - (문답 대한 신지지 내용분석- 자연지리를 중심으로)

  • This article focuses on the period from the beginning of Twentieth, the period commonly regarded as the Enlightenment Period in Korea. Questioning Daehan-Sin-Gygi( 問答大韓新地誌) textbook consists of contents of physical geography aimed at rational and objective perception of the nature, within the frame of Sirak(實學) and Progressive Thoughts. In terms of contents organization, there are too wide range of facts and knowledge covered, with mechanical imitation of statement style of systematic and regional approach. Particularly, Geography textbook in this period attached greater importance to contents of physical geography than any other times. It is possible to conclude that real outcomes of geography education at the time contributed significantly to enlightenment of people and integration of the society. I consider that statement style of question-response used at the time is very worth-while.

  • 과학의 달, 4월의 문화인물로 선정된 조선조의 지리학자 이중환은 우리나라 지리학의 중시조. 그의 대표작 택리지는 우리의 전통적 풍수지리학을 반쯤 섞고 거기에 근대 지리학의 성격을 가미했다. 이 택리지는 사대부가 어디 살아야 할 것인가를 가르치기 위한 책으로 지리ㆍ생리ㆍ인심ㆍ산수 등 4가지로 나눠 설명했는데 이책은 1750년쯤 쓴 것으로 보인다.

Geographical Cognition and the literary Geography Figuration of the 'Dong Hae' in Joseon Dynasty (조선시대의 '동해'에 대한 지리인식과 문학적 형상)

  • While the Dong Hae was originally named for the point of the compass, it became a proper noun containing knowledge on the long history. The Dong Hae has played host to a number of historic events and cultural meanings and is a geographical space in the nature. This study examined the geographical cognition of ancestors about the Dong Hae among the historic and cultural meanings of Dong Hae and a variety of figurations described in literature. Intellectuals of the Joseon period identified the global geography on a higher level an recognized the geography and topography of the land in the structure that they identified. In this aspect, Mt. Baekdu, one of two mountains which dominated the world, ruled the geography of Liaodong field, the Korean peninsula and Japnn. Historical geographers mentioned the Dong Hac whenever discussing Mt. Baekdu and Baekdudaegan (Great Range) from long ago. Baekdudaegan and the Dong Hae are the complete symbol of national territory with great size, depth, height, width, dignity and magnanimity. The cultural figurations of the Dong Hae were classified into four categories. In Korean literature, the Dong Hae strengthened the spirits of those who lived in the Korean peninsula. Second, the Dong Hae was the basis to see through and deliberate the reasons of life and the world. Third, the view of the Dong Hae from Baekdudaegan changed the cognition about the land. Finally, the Dong Hae was where the hard life of people in the fishing villages occurred and a variety of customs and trades were dynamically deployed.

A Historical Geographical Analysis on the Physical Place Name of Mt. Seoraksan in Joseon Period (조선시대 설악산 자연지명의 역사지리적 분석)

  • This paper analyzes on the physical place name of Mt. Seoraksan in Joseon period from the historical geographical perspective. The analysis materials are Jirijis, old maps and travel records of Joseon period. The results are as follows. The space range of Mt. Seoraksan in Joseon period and today was different. Mt. Seoraksan in Joseon period was around Daecheongbong Peak nowadays, Ulsanbawi Rock was Mt. Cheonhusan, and north mountain range of Hangyeryeong Pass called Mt. Hangyesan. Region of Mt. Seoraksan and Mt. Hangyesan were devided in Joseon Period. Mt. Seoraksan name was representative in late Joseon period including Mt. Hangyesan and Mt. Cheonhusan. Mountain names were the most in the physical place name. The old name of Hangyeryeong Pass was Osaek Pass in maps of Joseon Period. The popular travel course of Mt. Seoraksan in Joseon period was Baekdamsa Temple-Oseam Temple-Sinheungsa Temple.

Growth of Korean Shipbuilding-Allied Industries and Regional Implications (우리 나라 조선관련산업의 성장과 지역적 함의)

  • The aim of this study is to examine the regional features of shipbuilding-allied industries comprehensively. Inaddition, this study would offer groundwork to construct spatial networks of shipbuilding-allied industries. Relatively in short term, large modem shipbuilding firms of South Korea have developed under the national strategic support, around southeast coast region. Although small shipbuilding firms and marine equipment firms have supported regional economy, these firms have scaled down their functions and roles due to the national policy. In the long tenn, Korean shipbuilding-allied industries have limitations in stable development, because they have separated their roles. Consequently it is necessary the balanced development of large, medium, and small shipbuilding firms and linkage system with marine equipment firms for overall development of shipbuilding-allied industries. This study suggests two spatial strategy for shipbuilding-allied industries development. First, we need to construct a shipbuilding specialization area which agglomerates competent parts firms adjacent to large shipyards. Second, in national strategy, a long term strategy is required to utilize extremely synergy and external effects induced from a shipbuilding duster of southeast coast region which systematically combines shipbuilding-allied industries, universities, the government authorities, and research institutions.

동북 조선족 인구 분포 특성에 관한 역사 지리적 고찰

  • 본문은 동북 3성의 지리, 역사, 연구 상황을 개술하고 착중하여 조선족이 동북 3성에 이주한 시기를 4개기로 나누어 그 분포 특징을 밝혔다. 4개의 시기는 (1) 함풍-동치년 시기 (2) 광서년 시기 (3) 선통-민국년 (4) 위만 시기이다. 매시기마다 조선족이 동북 3성에 이주한 역사 지리적 배경을 천명했고 당시 조선족의 이주 노선과 분포특징을 귀납하였다. (1) 조선족이 동북에 이주하여 온 노선은 모두 20개 노선이 있었다. 그중 이주 수량이 많은 노선으로는 종성-개산툰-용정 노선, 남양-도문 노선, 만포-집안 노선이다. (2) 압록강 유역의 중간진에서 중국 림강에 들어온 이주민이 가장 일찍 했다면 두만강 유역은 10-20년 더 높다. (3) 동북 3성 조선족 인구밀도는 두만강과 압록강에 가까울수록 크고, 멀수록 작다. (4) 압록강, 두만강 유역에는 평안도와 함경도의 이주민이 많고, 두 유역에서 북쪽으로 갈수록 조선 남부의 이주민이 많다. (5) 동복 3성 조선족은 산지보다 평원에 많이 분포되었는데 동북의 수전개발에 커다란 공헌이 있다. (6) 중국 조선족에 97.1%가 동북에 집중되나, 그중에서도 길림성에 1,811,946명으로서 전국 조선족 총수의 65.8%를 차지하고, 흑룡강성에 452,398명으로서 25.2%를 차지하며, 요넝성은 230,378명으로서 9.0%를 차지하고 있다.(1990년 통계) (7) 도시에 있는 조선족은 모두가 잡거하고 농촌에서는 잡거구도 있지만 대부분은 순 조선족 부락을 이루었다.

Spatial Features of Production Networks on Korean Shipbuilding: The Case of Samsung Heavy Industry in Koje, Korea (조선산업 생산네트워크의 공간 특성에 관한 연구: 삼성중공업 거제조선소를 사례로)

  • Major proposes of this study are to analyze Korean Shipbuilding's production network and cooperation between related firms and to understand their spatial features. The Geographical study about networks has focused on automobiles, electronics or communications industries. That's because those industries have distinctive spatial features thanks to the full growth of subcontract structures. The labor-centered, capital-centered shipbuilding industry, differently from other manufacturing industries, has production networks where outside trades are common. Today internet based communication is being reinforced and the flexibility of purchase circumstances is being positively proceeded. The central axes of the production network of Sumsung shipbuilding are internationally Europe and Asian area, nationally Busan and Gyeongnam province and Seoul Metropolitan areas, locally inside subcontracting firms. And In order to construct mutual trust with cooperation firms, Sumsung shipbuilding is trying to reinforce two-way cooperation relation through 'SungJoHoi' organized with outside subcontracting firms and 'inside cooperation firms conference'. In conclusion, Sumsung shipbuilding is trying to strengthen the competitiveness of shipbuilding industry, spatially by setting up the network through globalization-localization and functionally by constructing the partnership production network for mutual communication.
