젖소에서 우유생산량의 증가시키기 위한 방안을 제시하기 위하여, 고능력우와 저능력우의 혈액화학치를 조사 연구하였다. 젖소 30두(3산에서 5산 사이)를 분만후 15, 30, 60, 90일의 착유량을 기준으로 두 군으로 나누었다. 착유량이 27 kg/day 이하인 군을 A(group A)군으로 하고, 30 kg/day 이상인 군을 B(group B)군으로 하였다. 혈액 샘플은 경정맥을 통하여, 분만전 15일, 분만후 12시간 이내(0 days), 분만후 15, 30, 60, 90일에 채혈하였다. 혈액 광물질 중 Mg과 Cg 농도는 B군이 A군보다 지속적으로 높았다. 무기인 농도는 두 군간에 분만전후에 변동이 있었으나, 분만후 15일과 30일에는 B군이 A군보다 유의성있게 높았다 (p<0.05). 혈액화학치 중에 cholesterol 농도는 분만당일을 제외하고는 B군이 지속적으로 높았고, BUN 농도와 glucose 농도는 두 군간에 차이가 없었다. 비타민 A 농도는 분만전 15일과 분만후 15일에 B군이 A군보다 유의성있게 높았고 (p<0.01), 비타민 E 농도는 실험기간동안에 두 군 사이에 차이가 없었다. 결과적으로 우유 생산량을 증가시키기 위해서 저능력우에 분만 전후에 사료 중에 Mg, Ca, Pi 과 비타민 A를 첨가하여주는 것이 효과가 있을 것이다.

본 연구는 침술이 개의 위 운동성에 미치는 효과에 관하여 알아보기 위하여 실시하였다. 건강한 잡종견 6두의 유문부 근층에 전극을 장착한 후 위근전도를 (electrogastromyograms, EGMG) 기록하여 위 운동성을 평가하였다. 침술은 ST-36, ST-40, ST-41, ST-42, ST-45, BL-21 및 CV-12 혈 위에 실시하였다. ST-36 및 BL-21 혈 위에 침술을 실시한 결과 위 운동성이 증가되었으며, CV-12 혈 위에서는 위 운동성이 감소되었다. 그러나 ST-40, ST-41, ST-42 및 ST-45 혈위의 침술은 위 운동성에 영향을 미치지 않았다

6개월령 수컷 아메리칸 코커스파니엘이 심한 소양감, 탈모 그리고 머리를 심하게 흔드는 증상으로 내원하였다 신체검사에서 전신적으로 가피. 비듬, 구진. 발적의 병변이 관찰되었다. 전반적인 피부검사결과 개선충, 귀진드기, 구균과 Malasseria의 혼합 감염으로 진단하였다. Selamectin 6mg/kg을 주 2회로 총 4회 경부 피부에 적용하였다 마지막 적용 후 14일에 피부를 재검사 하였을 때 개선충과 귀진드기는 관찰되지 않았으며 소양증과 비듬의 증상이 현저하게 개선되었다. 개선충과 귀진드기에 대한 치료가 끝난 후 구균과 Malassezia 치료를 위해 clavamox 와 ketoconazole을 3주간 투여 하였으며 동시에 sebolytic 샴푸와 chlorohexidine 샴푸를 3주동안 주 2회 실시하였다. 2개월 후 피부 증상은 현저히 감소하였고 피부 병변은 회복되었다. 이 치료법에 따른 selamectin 적용은 고가이지만 개선충과 귀진드기가 감염된 개에서 매우 효과적이며 임상적으로 scabies 감염증의 치료적 진단법으로 유용한 제제로 판단된다

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the effects of osteocalcin (serum bone GLA-protein, BGP) and procollagen carboxy-terminal propeptide (PICP) on new bone formation of canine fracture models. Serum osteocalcin and PICP were measured by standard RIA. The values of osteocalcin and PICP in the non-union and delayed-union fracture models were measured biweekly for 20 weeks in 14 dogs. The unions were radiographed for fracture healing. In non-union fracture group, the activity of BGP was markedly increased at four to eight weeks and decreased at twelve to twenty weeks and the activity of PICP was markedly increased at two to six weeks and slightly decreased at sixteen to twenty weeks. In delayed-union fracture group, the activity of BGP was markedly increased at two to eight weeks after treatment and maintained for the level until twenty weeks and the activity of PICP was markedly increased at two to six weeks after treatment and maintained for the level until twenty weeks. Radiologically, non-union group was not achieved until twenty weeks after fracture, delayed-union group was successfully achieved in eighteen weeks after fracture. These results suggested that the. activities of osteocalcin and PICP are useful parameters for biochemical markers of bone formation in dogs.

Eighty five canine eyes performed phacoemulsification for cataract extraction between January 1999 and December 2001 were reviewed. Mean age was 7.26 years old and main breed was poodle (37 dogs). Mature cataract was 51.76％, immature cataract 27.05% and hypermature 21.18％. Improvement of vision was detected in 75 (88.24%) of 85 eyes at 4 weeks after surgery. Postoperative complications were posterior capsular opacification(6), partial posterior synechia(5), glaucoma(3) and uveitis(2). Reasons for failure of visual improvement among the patients performed phacoemulsification were mainly related to development of postoperative anterior uveitis, secondary glaucoma and progressive retinal degeneration.

To investigate the diurnal change of intraocular pressures(IOP) and compare of $Tono-pen^{XL}$ and Schi$\emptyset$tz tonometer, we measured the IOP in clinically normal eyes of dogs. To estimate the diurnal change of IOP, the measurements of IOP were taken with $Tono-pen^{XL}$ in 44 normal canine eyes. Two physicians measured the IOP through the central cornea and limbal cornea. To compare of two tonometers, a physician measured the IOP with both $Tono-pen^{XL}$ and Schi$\emptyset$tz (7.5 g) tonometer in 23 clinically normal eyes of dogs. Mean of lOP was 26.51 $\pm$ 6.91 mmHg and IOP was highest as 30.65 mmHg at a.m. 10, but not significantly different within physicians and corneal regions (p > 0.05). Correlation coefficient within two tonometers was too low.

Estrus was induced in 13 anestrus Korea Jin-do bitches by intramuscular injection of pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) in a dose of 500 lU once daily for ten consecutive days, followed by an additional single intraveneous injection of 1,000 lU of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on the tenth day. Day-changes of vaginal epithelial cells during the hormone treatment were investigated in each experimental bitches and compared with the those of spontaneous estrus bitches. The first days of vulval bleeding and male acceptance after PMSG treatment were on Day 6.0$\pm$ 1.5 (mean$\pm$ SD) and Day 9.0$\pm$ 1.9, respectively. And in all of 13 bitches, vulval swelling and perineal reflex were shown. The mean durations of proestrus and estrus were 2.9$\pm$ 1.4 (mean$\pm$ SD, range ; 1-6) and 11.5: 1.7 (range ; 8-14) days, respectively, that is, duration of proestrus was significantly shorter than that of the spontneous estrous bitches but duration of estrus was longer than that of the spontaneous estrous bitches. Characteristic features of vaginal cytology during the estrous cycle were the high proportions of large intermediate cell, superficial cell, anuclear cell and erythrocyte in proestrus, superficial cell and anuclear cell in estrus and parabasal cell, small intermediate, large intermediate cell, and leukocyte in diestrus, respectively. The comification index (Cl) was significantly high proportion in proestrus and estrus, when Day 0 was timed from the first day of male acceptance, the Cl was first increased above 80% on Day 0 and maintained above 80% until Day 0 to Day 5 during 6 days and showed a peak on Day 2. Also it was maintained above 90% until Day 2 to Day 3 during 2 days. These results indicated that all 13 ekperimental bitches showed positive estrus detection by the estrus behavior and vaginal smear test after treated with PMSG and hCC. It suggested that vaginal cytology was used to estimate the optimal mating and ovulation time, in consideration of the day when the Cl was maintained above 80% in estrus-induced Korea Jin-do bitches.

유산후 반복적인 자궁내 항생물질 주입의 병력이 있는 7세의 말이 자궁내막염을 나타내었다. 이 말은 자궁경관 점막의 충혈과 부종을 보였고, 회백색의 화농성 삼출액이 배설되었다. Candida albicans가 원인균으로 증명되었으며 이 진단은 자궁 삼출액의 직접 현미경 검사와 순수 배양물의 검사에 의해 증명하였다. 실험실적 디스크 확산실험에서 병원체가 amphotericin B, clotrimazole, fluconazole 및 nystatin 등 네 가지의 항진균제에 모두 감수성을 나타내었다. 4일간 nystatin 400,000 단위씩을 자궁내 주입하였더니 성공적으로 치유되었으며, 마지막 주입 후7일에 직접도말 검사와 배양에서 병원체가 다시 발견되지 않았다.

만성 림프구성 백혈병은 오랜기간에 걸쳐서 발전하는 전신질환이며, 급성 백혈병에서 보이는 것보다 더욱 성숙되고 잘 분화된 림프구가 혈액과 골수에 존재하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 본 증례보고에서는 발작, 복수의 임상 증상과 전염성 성병성 종양에 대한 치료경력이 있는 2년령의 거세된 잡종견을 다루고 있다. 여러 가지 진단 절차를 통하여 만성 림프구성 백혈병으로 진단내렸고, chlorambucil과 prednisolone을 이용한 항암치료를 현재까지 적용해 오고 있다. 초기내원 시 보였던 대부분의 증상에 대한 개선을 볼 수 있었으며, 환자의 삶의 질은 향상되었다.

다양한 피부병을 갖고 있는 52두의 개에 대해 Geotrichum candidum의 감염율을 조사하였다 피부가검물은 15% KOH용액으로 케라틴을 용해한 후 현미경으로 직접 검사하였다. 또한 Sabouraud dextrose agar, chloramphenicol을 함유한 Sabouraud dextrose agar 및 brain heart infusion agar에 피부가검물을 접종하여 $25^{\circ}C와\;37^{\circ}C$에서 배양하여 원인균을 배양하고, 배양물을 현미경으로 검사하였다. 52두 중 2두의 가검물에 대한 직접 현미경 검사에서 직사각형 내지 원기둥형의 분절포자와 격벽이 있는 균사가 관찰되어 Geotrichum 감염이 제시되었다. 이 가검물의 배양물에서 균사와 $4-8\;\mu\textrm{m}$의 포자가 관찰되었다. 또한 이 진균은 분아포자를 생성하지 않고, 요소의 이용과 맥아당의 동화작용을 나타내지 않았다. 이 두 마리리의 피부염은 2% gentian violet또는 2% miconazole 의 국소적용에 임상적인 차도를 나타내었다 Geotrichum candidum은 사물기생성 진균이지만 개에 있어서 피부염의 원인이 될 수 있기 때문에 피부염 감별진단에 포함시켜야 할 것임을 제시하였다.

Discospondylitis is an infection of an intervertebral disk with concurrent osteomyelitis of contiguous vertebrae. Clinical signs are variable and include pain, fever, anorexia, weight loss, depression, stilted gait and paresis or paralysis. A seven-year-old, intact female Yurkshire terrier dog was refered to the Vfterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University because of intermitent pain of unknown cause for 2 weeks. On physical examination, pain was evident when spines were manipulated, especially thoracolumbar junction part. No neurologic deficits were deteced in the general neurologic test. Spinal radiography demonstrated the bony lysis of the vertebral end plates and sclerosis of the $T_{12-13}$ vertebral body. Based on the results of examinations, the dog was diagnosed as discospondylitis and recoverd following antibiotic therapy.

A fourteen-year-old mongrel female dog that was 22 kg and had two large mammary tumor lesions was admitted to the Animal Teaching Hospital of Chonbuk National University. Two large mammary tumor lesions were observed in the right caudal thoracic and the left inguinal mammary glands, which were sized 6 cm and 5 cm in diameter, respectively. These tumor lesions were removed by block mastectomy, then large skin defect of 7 cm diameter in caudal abdominal wall were recoverd by classic Z-plasty in both medial thigh. Classic Z-plasty was designed with 60 in angle and, with 6 cm in length of central limb in right medial thigh and 4 cm in left, respectively. This patient had been recoverd to normal gait and behavior at 20 days after the plastic operation.

A primary metastatic malignant plasma cell tumor was presented in a 7-year-old, female, mixed breed dog. The dog was admitted to Veterinary Teaching Hospital at College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University after suffering from depression, anorexia, and dyspnea. The dog was euthanized due to poor prognosis. At necropsy, numerous, firm and tan round nodules, 1 to 2 cm in diameter were noted in the ribs. The nodules formed chain or were occasionally coalescing, causing osteolysis of the ribs. A large amount of clear fluid was present in the thoracic cavity. The spleen and liver were markedly enlarged and congested. Histologically, the nodular masses were diagnosed as plasma cell tumor which was believed to be originated from the rib. Evidence of metastasis was observed in the spleen, liver, and kidney.

A 7 year-old male Maltese dog was referred to Seoul National University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital with a recurrent mass in the right scapular region. The patient had no pains associated with the mass. On aspiration cytology, the neoplastic mass is composed of clusters of mature adipocytes with large lipid vacuoles, intermixed with frequent microcapillary vessels which is characteristic of lipoma. At surgery, the mass was infiltrated into the surrounding muscles and therefore the complete resection of the mass was difficult. Histologically, the mass was diagnosed as infiltrative lipoma. The patient has no recurrent signs 8 months after surgery.

A five-year-old, female Great Dane dog with edema, localized trauma, mild pain, and lameness of the right hind limb was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungbuk National University. This dog had a history of mammary tumor excisions 6 months ago. Abnormal changes were not seen in the values of complete blood count and serum biochemical tests. But pedal direct lymphangiography using aqueous-based radiographic agent showed the obstructed lymph flow in right popliteal lymph node. Based on these observations, the dog was suspected as lymphedema resulted from lymph drainage flilure without any other possibilities of inflammation or other causes. Although recommended chemotherapy and physiotherapy had been applied for resolvinr presented problems for one month, there was no improvement on edema of damaged region and any other clinical signs. Therefore, the necropsy was performed after euthanasia under agreement of the owner of patient. In histopatholofical examination, the most characteristic lesions in the mass of femoral region were diffuse edema fibrosis and neoplastic cells in the lymphatics. Also, the neoplastic cells were very similar to those found in the tumor mass of mammary gland, which had diagnosed as fibrosing carcinoma. These facts suggested that the cause of obstructed lymph flow was the neoplasia in lymphatics of the right hind limb. With these results, a diagnosis of malignant lymphedema was made in this dog.

Pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (PDH) was diagnosed with history taking, physical examination, complete blood count, serum chemistry profiles, abdominal radiology, ultrasonography and adrenal function tests in 3 dogs. Their clinical signs were polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, bilateral symmetrical truncal alopecia and secondary infection in skin or urinary tract. Especially one dog showed severe clinical signs such as calcinosis cutis and delayed wound healing. These 3 dogs were diagnosed as PDH, and treated with selegiline 1-2 mg/kg /ay sid PO. 2 dogs with clinical signs of PDH were disappeared and improved, but 1 dog with severe illness progressed gradually despite of selegiline and mitotane application, and eventually died.

Pharmacological ablation of the ciliary body by intravitreal injection of a cytotoxic dose of gentamicin was utilized for the treatment of absolute glaucoma in 13 dogs. Complications of this procedure were hyphema(2), corneal opacity(2), iris bombe(1), cataract(1) and chronic inflammation(1). Injection time was one time in 10 dogs, two times in 2 dogs and 3 times in a dog. Intravitreal injection of gentamicin was thought as a economic salvage procedure and has resulted in successful lowering of intraocular pressure.

A case of spindle cell tumor was presented in a 16-month-old, female syrian hamster. In the left chest area, a 3cm firm elevated recurrent mass was found, surgically removed, and submitted to the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Seoul National University for diagnosis. The mass was soft to firm and tan on sectioning, and contained hemorrhagic area. Histologically, the tumor was composed of sheets of interlacing bundles of spindle-shaped cells with moderate amount of cytoplasm and oval to fusiform nuclei. They were plemorphic and contained 1 to 3 prominent nucleoli. Based on the gross and histological findings, the tumor was diagnosed as a subcutaneous spindle cell tumor. However, the exact origin of neoplastic cells remained undetermined.

Canine Juvenile cellulitis was diagnosed in 2 puppies hospitalized in Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Seoul National University. Characterized dermatological problems were presents of scale, crust, purulent exudation and alopecia limited on their face. On cytologic examinations of direct impression smears for the lesions, numerous neutrophils and macrophagies were observed. No bacteria and fungus were noted. Treatments with administration of predinisolone and antibiotics orally combined with topical shampoo treatment had good results for the two puppies.
