Solid phase extraction(SPE) and matrix solid phase dispersion(MSPD) have been studied as preparation procedures for tetracyclines analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) in meat. The recovery range was 74${\sim}$98% for SPE, and 72${\sim}$93% for MSPD at spiked levels of 100ng/g for oxytetracycline(OTC), tetracycline(TC), chlortetracycline(CTC), and doxycycline(DC). The detection limits were 15${\sim}$78ng/g for SPE and 25${\sim}$84ng/g for MSPD, respectively. Analytical method was HPLC with UV detector. The purpose of this study was developing a practical, accurate and precise method for rapid extraction and quantitation of tetracycline residues in meat.

Scrub typhus and murine typhus are common endemic febrile illness in the fall in Korea. Scrub typhus is caused by Orientia tsutsugomushi, murine typhus is caused by Rickettsia typhi. Trombiculid mites are known as both the vector and the reservoir host of O tsutsugamushi, the mites which transmit O tsutsugomushi have been reported to be Leptotrombidium pallidum and L scutellare. The author carried out an epidemiological study of scrub typhus and murine typhus in Kyodong-Myeon, Kanghwa-Gun, Incheon in relation to the residents and the host rodents, such as their distribution, seroepidemiology, and population density of chigger mites. 1. Out of 900 residents, 33(3.7%) showed positive reaction to O tsutsugamushi, 24(2.7%) to R typhi. 2. In the seropositives to O tsutsugamushi or R typhi, between the sixties and the seventies of the age were dominant. 3. In the seropositives to O tsutsugamushi serotypically Gilliam was dominant. 4. Among the total 42 field rodents trapped by the sherman traps, 18 rodents were Apodemus agrarius(42.9%), 13 rodents were Crocidura lasiura(31.0%), 5 rodents were Musmusculus(11.9%), 2 rodents(4.8%) were Crocidura suaveolens, Rattus norvegicus, Tscherskia triton, respectively. 5. Out of 42 field rodents, 25 were parasitized by 4,419 chigger mites, showing 59.5% of the infestation rate and 98.8 of the chigger index. L pallidum parasitized in A agrarius, C lasiura, M musculus, R norvegicus and T triton, and L scutellare parasitized only C lasiura. 6. Antibodies in the sera of field rodents against O tsutsugamushi and R typhi were investigated by indirect immunofluorescent antibody technique. Positive rate of antibody against O tsutsugamushi were 11.9(5 of 42) and all of the positive is A agrarius. Antibody against R typhi was not detected. These results might provide the basic information for the management of scrub typhus and murine typhus in Kyodong-myeon, where the epidemiological studies on scrub typhus and murine typhus was not carried out enough.

This study was conducted to investigate the similarity between hemagglutination inhibition (HI) test and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) titers and sample to positive ratio (S/P ratio) of Newcastle disease(ND) virus. To perform this study, the 372 sera of broiler chicks and 120 sera of layers and breed chicks were collected from slaughter house and farms, respectively. As a result of HI test out of different chicks, the positive percentage of ND antibody titer of broiler, layer and breeder, when a standard positive HI titer were '2', was 84.4%, 100% and 100%, respectively. The positive percentage of ND antibody titer by ELISA was shown 38.4%, 100% and 100% and S/P ratio were also shown 81.5%, 98.2% and 99.2%, respectively. The results of comparative survey with same sera by two experimental methods were as follows; In low HI titer, ELISA titer was not similar to HI titer, but S/P ratio was similar to it. In high HI titer, ELISA titer was not similar to HI titer. Therefore, HI titer was more similar to S/P ratio than ELISA titer.

In order to monitoring the chicken meat hygiene, 165 chicken samples were tested for contamination agents such as the total bacterial counts, coliform bacterial counts and falling bacterial counts. The prevalence of level on number of standard plate count, total bacterial counts in less than $10^3\;cfu/cm^2$, $10^3{\sim}10^4\;cfu/cm^2$ and $10^3-10^5\;cfu/cm^2$ was 30 samples(18.2%), 98 samples(59.4%) and 37 samples(22.4%), respectively. The coliform bacterial counts in less than $10^2\;cfu/cm^2$, $10^2{\sima}10^$\;cfu/cm^2$ and $10^3{\sim}10^4\;cfu/cm^2$ was 7 samples(42.2%), 66 samples(40.0%), 92 samples(58.8%), respectively. The falling bacterial counts in plants was higher 9.1 in summer, 8.4 in fall, 7.2 in spring and 6.7 in winter, in order.

The purpose of this study was sero-epidemiological survey of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrom(PRRS) in Dangjin area. 411 samples from 26 pig farms were analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). The data indicate that 66% of the pigs and 92% of the farms showed sero-positives to the PRRS viruc. Sows showed 58% of sero-positive rate and fattening pigs showed 85% of seropositive rate. The rate of sero-positive in boars was 63%. No significant regional differences were detected in sero-epidemiological survey.
