Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to report the effects of a combined treatment including Banhabaekchulcheonma-tang extract, acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion in patients with functional dyspepsia accompanied by headache after a traffic accident. Methods: The patients received Banhabaekchulcheonma-tang extract 2-3 times daily alongside concurrent treatments, such as acupuncture, cupping, and moxibustion. Differential diagnosis was performed through medical history and imaging tests. The patients' progress was evaluated using the numeric rating scale (NRS), EuroQoL 5 Dimensions (EQ-5D), and gastrointestinal symptom score (GIS) before and after treatment. Results: Significant improvement was observed in the patients' NRS, EQ5D, and GIS scores after treatment, and no adverse events were reported. However, the effects of Banhabaekchulcheonma-tang could not be evaluated independently due to the combined treatment approach. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Banhabaekchulcheonma-tang, as part of a combined treatment regimen, may contribute to the improvement of functional dyspepsia accompanied by headache after traffic accidents. Further studies are needed to evaluate the independent effects of each treatment modality.
