Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the factors influencing the excessive use of smartphones by college students. The subjects of the study were nursing college students attending G University located in E-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and the data collection period was conducted from March 9 to March 27, 2020. The collected data used the SPSS 21.0 program, and independent t-test and one way ANOVA, Scheffettest, Pearson Correlation Coefficients, and multiple regression analysis were performed. As a result of the study, there was a positive correlation between smartphone overuse and depression. Factors affecting smartphone overuse were school life satisfaction, depression, and gender, which were statistically significant influencing factors, and the explanatory power of these variables was 8.8%. Reflecting these research results, it suggests that it is necessary to develop and apply intervention programs and prevent excessive use of smartphones suitable for college students.
