초록

In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of thermosetting-resin composites in military aircraft and other aerospace applications because they present higher strength and stiffness properties than their metallic counterparts. However, thermosetting-resin composite materials have a low resistance to impact compared to metals. Therefore, high-toughness thermoplastics have been used as tougheners in thermosetting resins because they do not compromise any of the desirable properties of thermosetting-resin systems. In this study, the improvement in the impact damage tolerance of epoxy-resin composites was investigated by introducing polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), an engineering thermoplastic, into the epoxy resin system at loadings of 0, 10, 20, and 30 phr. Consequently, the impact strength and heat resistance of the epoxy-resin composite mostly increased with the addition of PPS.
