Abstract

The sprawl by modernization has worsened the neighborhood, with the consequence that there is no more sense of community. To overcome this, New urbanism has begun and it enters from its infancy a phase of coming into wide use as the urban planning system. On top of that, a new zoning system called 'Smartcode' was drawn up lately. The purposes of this study are to elucidate the contents and to prove the application process of Smartcode. The case study is city of Miami which firstly applied Smartcode throughout the city. Applying the code shows its three main plausible features: 1) progress verification of Smartcode by the attempt of the Miami's own, 2) confirm four things which are superb than the conventional one by comparing focusing the technical skills, 3) creative approaches to convince residents about the code during the process of charrette. Consequently, it would be said that Smartcode verified its potentials as a general tool.
