A Model Research on How the Development of Transport Changes Central Place System

교통발달에 의한 중심지체계 변화 모형의 분석과 함의

Abstract

Dramatic changes have so far been made in the system of central places over the past century. The development of transport has particularly exercised principal influences on the changes of the system of central places. This paper is to examine how and why the development of transport enables such changes to take place in the system of central places, through conducting model research. This paper suggests some models that development of transport be taken as an independent variable and that the division of market area between the central places be as the development of variable. The suggested models show that the development of transport extends the market area of higher central places but reduces the market area of lower central places.

Christaller의 중심지모형은 공간분석 연구에서 가장 설득력 있는 개념과 이론구성을 가진 것으로 평가되어 왔지만 동시에 많은 비판들을 받아왔다. 특히, 이 모형의 한계로서 중심지체계의 변화를 적절히 수용하지 못하는 정태성의 문제가 지적되었다. 본 연구는 교통발달이 중심지체계를 변화시키는 원리를 규명하기 위해 중심지모형을 선형상권분석모형으로 재구성한 바, 교통비용의 하락이 어떻게 중심지의 상권을 변화시키게 되는지를 분석하였다. 모형분석의 결과는 다음과 같다. 교통발달은 고차중심지의 상권을 확대하는 반면 저차중심지의 상권 축소와 기능 쇠퇴를 가져올 것이다. 더하여 이러한 현상은 고차중심지와 저차중심지가 규모에서 차이가 클수록 거리가 가까울수록 상품의 중심성이 높을수록 크게 나타나며, 쇠퇴의 속도는 교통발달 속도가 일정할 경우 점점 더 빨라지게 된다. 나아가 상권의 형태는 저차중심지를 향해 오목하게 나타날 것이다.
