Satisfaction Level with Client-Centered College Oral Health Care Programs in the Metropolitan Area

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfaction level of college students with client-centered incremental oral health care programs offered by a department of dental hygiene. It's specifically meant to investigate the relationship of the general characteristics and oral health status of college students to their satisfaction level with the programs. Method The subjects in this study were 96 undergraduate students who participated in standardized incremental oral health care programs at a college located in Gyeonggi Province in the first and second terms of 2011. The relationship of their general characteristics and oral health state with their satisfaction at the standardized incremental oral health care programs was analyzed. As for statistical analysis, the statistical package SAS 9.2 was employed. Results As a result of analyzing the satisfaction of the participants with the client-centered oral health care programs by general characteristics and oral health status, there were no statistically significant differences according to the two variables. The female students were rated relatively higher than the male students in oral health knowledge(4.57±0.53) and changes of oral health behavior(4.60±0.53). Concerning the relationship between their oral health status and satisfaction level, the college students whose DMFT was below 3 were more satisfied than those whose DMFT was above 4 in terms of an increase in oral health knowledge(4.57±0.07), changes in oral health behavior(4.57±0.07), proficiency of program operation(4.57±0.08) and revisit intention (4.27±0.86). The students whose PHP index was relatively higher(1.8-5.1) were more satisfied than those whose PHP index was lower(0-1.79) in terms of an increase in oral health knowledge, changes in oral health behavior(4.56±0.08) and proficiency of program operation(4.56±0.10), but the differences between the two were not statistically significant. Concerning plaque rate, the students whose plague rate stood at 31 to 100 percent expressed higher satisfaction with every item except revisit intention, but the differences between them and the others were not statistically significant. Conclusion The findings of the study indicated that the students were satisfied with the client-centered incremental oral health care programs regardless of their general characteristics and oral health status.
연구목적 : 본 연구는 치위생학과의 대상자 중심 계속구강건강관리 프로그램에 참여한 대학생의 프로그램 참여 후 만족도를 알아보기 위하여 수행하였다. 이를 위하여 대상자의 일반적인 특성과 구강건강상태에 따른 프로그램 만족도를 조사하였다. 연구방법 : 2011년 1학기와 2학기 동안 경기도 소재 일개 대학교에서 표준화된 계속구강강관리 프로그램에 참여한 96명의 대학생을 대상으로 일반적인 특성과 구강상태와 표준화된 계속구강건강관리프로그램의 만족도의 관련성을 검토하였고 통계분석은 SAS Version 9.2를 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 : 대상자의 일반적인 특성과 구강건강상태에 따른 대상자중심구강건강관리프로그램의 만족도를 살펴본 결과 통계적으로 의미 있는 차이점이 발견되지 않았다. 여성은 남성에 비해 구강보건지식(4.57 ± 0.53)과 구강보건행동변화(4.60 ± 0.53)에 있어 비교적 긍정적으로 평가되었다. 대상자의 구강건강상태에 따른 만족도를 살펴본 결과 DMFT 3이하인 대학생의 경우 DMFT 4이상인 대학생에 비해 구강보건지식증가(4.57 ± 0.07), 구강보건행동변화(4.57 ± 0.07), 운영숙련도(4.57 ± 0.08), 재방문의사(4.27 ± 0.86)에서 높은 만족도를 보였고, PHP index가 1.8-5.1로 비교적 높은 학생들은 구강보건지식증가(4.58 ± 0.08), 구강보건행동변화(4.56 ± 0.08), 운영숙련도(4.56 ± 0.10)에서 PHP index 0-1.79인 대학생에 비해 긍정적 의사를 표현하였으나 통계적으로 의미 있는 차이는 없었다. Plaque rate 의 경우 31-100%인 학생들이 재방문의사를 제외한 모든 영역에서 높은 만족도를 나타내었으나 통계적으로 의미 있는 차이는 도출되지 않았다. 결 론 : 본 연구결과 대상자의 일반적 특성과 구강 건강상태에 관계없이 대상자중심 계속구강건강관리프로그램에 관하여 만족도를 보였다.
