Arc lamps are now widely utilized as illumination sources for a large number of investigations in wide-field fluorescence microscopy. Among many power converters for the lamp, the PSFB (Phase-Shift Full-Bridge) converter with the ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching) is the most widely used soft switched circuit in high-power applications. Also, in the most luminaries, the power factor has to be more and more important. Thus, the power factor correction(PFC) must be included in the power system. A new igniter module using the switching power device and the transformer is proposed instead of the conventional igniter using the mechanical contactor. The proposed converter with the high power factor and high efficiency is verified through the experimental works.

This paper describes the design of the digital controller for Full-Bridge Phase-shifted converter with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). Although digital control techniques are widely used in the area of inverters and motor drives, their use for the control of high-frequency switching power supply is still rare. Therefore, this paper presents design method of digital controller of Full-Bridge Phase-shifted converter with zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and compares with conventional analog controller. The controller design is optimized by running computer simulation with the MATLAB numerical calculation package.
This study examines the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation of an active-clamped forward converter (ACFC) with a current-doubler rectifier (CDR). The ZVS condition can be obtained with a much smaller leakage inductance compared to that of a conventional ACFC. Due to the significantly reduced leakage inductance, the design is optimized and the circulating loss is reduced. The operation of the ACFC with a CDR is analyzed, and a detailed ZVS analysis is conducted on the basis of a steady-state analysis. From the results, a design consideration for ZVS improvement is presented. Loss analyses of the converters shows that enhanced soft-switching contributes to an efficiency improvement under light-load condition. Experimental results from a 100-W (5-V/20-A) prototype verify that the ACFC with a CDR can attain ZVS across an extended load range of loads and achieve a higher efficiency than conventional ACFCs.
In this paper, a simple power control scheme for a constant frequency Class-D inverter with a variable duty cycle is proposed. It is more suitable and acceptable for high- frequency induction heating (IH) jar applications. The proposed control scheme has the advantages of not only wide power regulation range but also ease of control output power. Also it can achieve a stable and efficient Zero-Voltage-Switching (ZVS) in a whole load range. The control principles of the proposed method are described in detail and its validity is verified through simulated and experimental results on 42.8kHz IGBT for induction heating rated on 1.6kW with constant frequency variable power.

Zero Voltage Transition Pulse Width Modulation (ZVT-PWM) converter with active snubber circuit was proposed on this paper. The converter that has been proposed snubber circuit can be operated at the condition of light load range, and this converter is turned on and off near by Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) or Zero Current Switching (ZCS). If the stress of voltage and current are not occurred at the main switch and main diode, we subjected the allowed level of voltage and current on the auxiliary switch and auxiliary diodes. By proposed 750[W], 80[KHz] PWM boost converter to apply soft switching on the power of total output, the loss of main switch to compare with hard switching was reduced about 27[%], and the loss of total circuit was reduced about 36[%]. The total efficiency was increased about 6[%] to compare with general converter.
This paper presents a soft-switching technique of single-stage power conversion Matrix Converter of AC-AC converters. Conventional hard-switching method is limited to operate at low switching frequency due to increased switching loss. In this paper, by additional auxiliary switch circuits, it is shown that the main switch of the matrix converter operate as a zero-voltage switches, and the auxiliary switch operate as a zero current switch. Finally, the soft-switching technique with auxiliary switches is compared with conventional hard-switching technique, and Is analyzed by simulation.

The utility interactive sinewave modulated inverter for the solar photovoltaic (PV) power conversion and conditioning with a new high frequency pulse modulated link is presented for domestic residential applications. As compared with the conventional full-bridge hard switching PWM inverter with a high frequency AC link, the simplest single-ended quasi-resonant soft switching sinewave modulated inverter with a duty cycle pulse control is implemented, resulting in size and weight reduction and low-cost. This paper presents a prototype circuit of the single-ended zero voltage soft switching sinewave inverter for solar power conditioner and its operating principle. In addition, this paper proposes a control system to deliver high quality output current. Major design of each component and the power loss analysis under actual power processing is also discussed from an experimental point of view. A newly developed interactive sinewave power processor which has $92.5\%$ efficiencty at 4kW output is demonstrated. It is designed 540mm-300mm-125mm in size, and 20kg in weight.
The Direct Torque Control (DTC) technique for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) is receiving increased attention due to its simplicity and robust dynamic response when compared with other control techniques. The classical switching table based DTC results in large flux and torque ripples in the motors. Several studies have been reported in the literature on classical DTC. However, there are only limited studies that actually discuss or evaluate the classical DTC. This paper proposes, novel switching table / DTC methods for PMSMs to reduce torque ripples. In this paper, two DTC schemes are proposed. The six sector and twelve sector methodology is considered in DTC scheme I and DTC scheme II, respectively. In both DTC schemes a simple modification is made to the classical DTC structure. The two level inverter available in the classical DTC is eliminated by replacing it with a three level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter. To further improve the performance of the proposed DTC scheme I, the available 27 voltage vectors are allowed to form different groups of voltage vectors such as Large - Zero (LZ), Medium - Zero (MZ) and Small - Zero (SZ), where as in DTC scheme II, all of the voltage vectors are considered to form a switching table. Based on these groups, a novel switching table is proposed. The proposed DTC schemes are comparatively investigated with the classical DTC and existing literatures through theory analysis and computer simulations. The superiority of the proposed DTC method is also confirmed by experimental results. It can be observed that the proposed techniques can significantly reduces the torque ripples and improves the quality of current waveform when compared with traditional and existing methods.
A zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) pulse width modulated (PWM) converter is a PWM converter with a single main power switch that has an auxiliary circuit to help it turn on with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). There have been many ZVT-PWM converters proposed in the literature as they are the most popular type of ZVS-PWM converters. In this paper, the properties and characteristics of several types of ZVT-PWM converters are reviewed. A new type of ZVT-PWM converter is then introduced, and the operation of a sample converter of this type is explained and analyzed in detail. A procedure for the design of the converter is presented and demonstrated experimentally. The feasibility of the new converter is confirmed with results obtained from an experimental prototype. Conclusions on the performance of ZVT-PWM converters in general are made based on the efficiency results obtained from the experimental prototypes of various ZVT-PWM converters of different types.

This paper proposes a zero-voltage-transition pulse-width modulation (PWM) DC-DC converter that uses a new active-snubber-cell. The converter main switch can be turned on and off with ZVS, while the snubber switch is turned on with ZCS and turned off with ZVS. Other semiconductor devices are operated under the soft-switching condition. Normal PWM control can be used, the proposed active-snubber-cell does not impose any additional voltage and current stresses. The active-snubber-cell is suitable for high-power applications due to its easy integration into interleaved converters. This paper discusses the operation of the converter, presents some design guidelines, and provides the results of an experiment with a 100 kHz and 1 kW prototype. A peak efficiency of 97.8% is recorded.
