  • "Sujeonggwa" is a traditional korean beverage made from dried persimmon, cinnamon, and ginger and is often garnished with pine nuts. The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the ingredients, recipes, and processing of "sujeonggwa" in Korean cookbooks published since 1400. The name sujeonggwa is derived from jeonggwa. In the early 1600s, sujeonggwa was used in ancestral rites and as a reception beverage, although we don't know its cooking method. According to the literature of the early 1800s, sujeonggwa was made from various fruit ingredients such as pear and yuzu. But since the late 1800s, it has been mostly made from dried persimmon based on ginger and cinnamon boiled with water. Garyeon-sujeonggwa is made with lotus leaf while japkwa-sujeonggwa is made with pear and yuzu. Japkwa-sujeonggwa is similar to hwachae in terms of ingredients and cooking method.

  • Relative degree of resistance of citrus to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri, the causal bacterium of canker, was investigated. Growth rate of a bacterium in leaf tissues after infiltration, disease incidence, and percent of lesion area were compared. By using growth rate[(GR=(At - A$\sub$t-1/)/A$\sub$t-1] host plants were differentiated into susceptible and resistant. Growth rates reached to peak at 40 hrs after inoculation and then declined. The growth rate in leaf tissues of a moderately susceptible cultivar, Citrus sinensis vu. Lane late(sweet orange), was the highest, and those of C. unshiu ${\times}$ C. sinensis(kiyomi), C. junos(yuzu), [(Citrus. unshiu x C. sinensis) x C. reticulata] (shiranuhi), and C. unshiu(satuma mandarin) were similar. This result indicates that the growth rate of the bacterium in leaf tissues can be effectively used for evaluation of disease resistance for citrus plants to X. axonopodis pv. citri. The disease on sweet orange occurred earlier than relatively resistant citrus plants tested. The percent of lesion area on leaf was also higher in sweet orange than those of satsuma mandarin, shiranuhi and kiyomi, and yuzu. The disease severity was highest on sweet orange and followed by kiyomi, shiranuhi, satsuma mandarin, and yuzu.

Natural Enemies of Citrus Red Mite, Panonychus citri McGREGOR, and Seasonal Occurrence of Major Predators on Yuzu tree (Citrus Junos) (유자에서 귤응애의 천적종류와 주요종의 발생소장)

  • This studies was carried out to investigate the natural enemies of citrus red mite, pononychus citri and seasonal occurrence of its major beneficial insects in Yuzu groves (Chonnam province) from 1996 to 1998. Natural enemies against citrus red mite were 9 species including Oligota kashmirica benifica, 0. yasumatsui, Stethorus punctillum, Chrysopa pallens, Propylea japonica, Orius sauteri, Scolothrips takahashii, Amblyseius womersleyi and one unidentified species of thrips (Family: Phlaeothripidae). Among them, Oligota kashmirica benzficu and Stethorus punctillum were found to be dominant species. 0 . kushmirica henifica had 4-5 generations from middle May to middle November with peak in early September. S. punctillum had 3 generations from late May to late October with peak of late June to middle July. Population dynamics between predator ( 0 . kushmiricu benifica and S. punctillum) and prey (Panonychus citri) were quite well synchronized until September but predator density was decreased abruptly after October.

Sporulation and Dissemination of Pycnidiospores of Diaporthe citri in Yuzu Tree (Citrus junos Sieb) in Jeonnam Area (전남지역 유자과원의 검은점무늬병균 포자 형성과 비산)

  • Several time-course experiments were carried out to understand seasonal development of melanose on yuzu trees at koehung area, Jeonnam province, during May to October. The occurrence of dead twigs, known as a source of infection, was much more in older trees, and from June to August, mostly in July. In the experiment of pycnidia development on dead twigs seasonally collected, the number of developed pycnidia was highest on July-collected dead twigs especially with the diameter of 1.1~1.5 cm. In the collection survey of disseminated pycnidiospores, although the collected number of pycnidiospores was affected with amount of precipitation, the number of observed pycnidiospores in rainwater was relatively high from June to August, with highest in early August in 1997 and late July in 1998. In the inoculation tests on 3-year-old trees and fruits in natural condition, disease occurrences were mostly affected on twigs by inocula treatment in June, and on fruits by inocula treatment in July, respectively.

  • The occurrence of melanose was investigated on yuzu at Goheung and Boseong in Jeonnam province in 1997 and 1998 seasons. The disease occurrence on leaf was initiated from late May in 1997 and early May in 1998, severest in late of June on leaf, and in case of fruit, initiated from early July in 1997 and late June in 1998 with a peak in early August. The disease was occurred in twenty days more earlier in 1998 season than 1997 season. We think this was caused by temperatures during April and May. And it was supposed that the disease severity on the severest late of June was closely related to the rainfall and relative humidity during June. The disease severity was severer in old tree than the young.

  • Purpose: We consider export of Korea for Muslim population of Cairo residents in Egypt. Product instant cup noodle and yuzu tea are mainly focused on Kano model and Timko's customer satisfaction factor (CS - Coefficient) analysis and conjoint analysis. Methods: Based on the evaluation and conjoint analysis, cluster analysis was additionally applied to further exploratory research as to what kind of population the target customer has. A total of 120 people, each 60 people each, were prosecuted for Muslim women, middle middle class who had over 3,000 Korean won annual income for that study, and in Cairo in August 18. Results: The Kano analysis result Instant cup noodles act as attractive elements for packaging state, cooking method, smell and convenience, and Yuzu tea acted as an attractive element of taste, eating method, raw materials, efficacy, packaging form. Customer satisfaction factor, instant cup noodles, capacity and noodle thickness was a factor of indifference in Kano analysis, but acted as an attractive factor, the way to eat citron tea was classified as a factor of indifference. Conclusion: In the case of instant cup noodles, we first set up the taste of chicken-based soup with high appreciation as a whole, a group that likes chicken-based soup taste and oil noodles for each market segment, a taste of beef based soup And popular group that likes raw noodles Appears that diversification is necessary, and it has been found that it is necessary to develop a product type by hierarchy and marketing with different size priority from group packaging container. In the case of Yuzu tea, it is indispensable to emphasize the efficacy, in particular, energy recovery preference appears high, appealing point matching the needs of energy recovery is necessary, release the citrus fruit as a product without buckwheat in Bisson Ho, the packaging container, The group that likes cups and sticks is different and we found that it is necessary to prepare all two types.

HPLC Method Validation of Naringin Determination in Goheung Yuzu Extract as a Functional Ingredient (건강기능식품 기능성 원료로서 고흥 유자 추출물의 지표성분 Naringin 분석법)

  • An HPLC method for determination of naringin was developed to standardize it as a marker compound in Goheung yuzu extract as a functional health food. Optimum results were obtained by C-18 column chromatography using solvent mixtures (A: 0.5% acetic acid, B: acetonitrile) as the stationary phase and mobile phase. The method was fully validated and sensitive with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0218 mg/L and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.0661 mg/L. The method showed high linearity (coefficient of correlation=0.9986) and high accuracy, as recovery rates of naringin at concentrations of 1, 0.5, 0.1, 0.05 mg/mL were in the ranges of 95.74~98.25%, 97.67~101.01%, 97.33~104.64%, and 95.53~106.82%, respectively. Intra-day and inter-day variation, which are measures of method precision, were 1.39~1.95% and 0.17~1.49%, respectively. Therefore, the method could be used without modification for determination of naringin as a marker compound in Goheung yuzu extracts.

Population Fluctuation, Developmental Character of Panonychus citri and Damage Degree as its Control Density on Young Yuzu (Citrus junos) (유자에서 귤응애의 발생소장, 온도별 발육특성 및 방제밀도별 피해정도)

  • Experiments were conducted to investigate the population fluctuation, developmental periods, fecundity, hatching rate and demage of Citrus red mite (Panonychus citri M.) on Yuzu trees (citrus junos T.) from 1996 to 1997. Citrus red mite occurred from May to November and made two peaks. The first peak was in July to August and the secondary peak was in October. Density of the second peak was higher (9.5 miteslleaf) than that of the first peak. In the constitution rate of each developmental stage of citrus red mite on Yuzu leaves, egg stage occupied 85%. At the four constant temperature (15, 20, 25, 30 + 1$^{\circ}$C, RH 60 + lo%, 14L- IOD) conditions, the developmental period from egg to adult was 41 .l, 15.5, 11.0 and 9.4 days ; Mean longevity of adult was 23.3, 8.3, 6.3, and 6.1 days; Mean number of egg laid per female per day was 1.6, 3.2, 4.5, 4.0 eggs; Mean hatching rate was 66.6, 85.7, 90.7 and 94.7% at above temperature, respectively. When sprayed acaricide at different density of Citrus red mite, the growth of young Yuzu tree were better at low density. Defoliation rate during winter was 13.5, 20.6, 53.1, 72.6% at 4 control density 1 , 3, 6 mites per leaf and uncontrolled (10 ( ). When every time spray acaricide under 3 mites per leaf, defoliation rate during winter suppressed above 50% compare to uncontrol 72.6%.

Comparison of viral population of pathologically and geographically different areas of Southern provinces and Jeju, Korea

  • The objective of this work was to analyze the population of sequence variants of citrus tristeza virus (CTV) isolates in Korea and to make the phylogeny trees of CTV in Korea. We also tried to analyze and find the mild strain of CTV to apply for the cross protection. The CTV isolates from yuzu (C. Junos) collected from different geographic areas of Southern provinces such as Namhae-Do, Kerche-Do, Bosung, Wan-Do and Koheung and Jeju-Bo, Korea were used for SSCP analysis. The SSCP profiles of the cDNAS obtained by RT-PCR with primers specifically designed for the p20 of the CTV population. The SSCP profiles obtained from 150 PCR products in yuzu contained two or three DNA bands, whereas, in some case, others contained four or more bands of similar intensity. The pathologically mild isolates of CTV usually yielded two DNA bands by SSCP profiles, whereas the SSCP profiles of the most virulent isolates contained more than two DNA bands. Plants shown severe stem pitting were corresponded to those plants with typical SSCP profiles of severe strains, and vice versa. This results indicate that the primers designed for SSCP analysis can be used for distinguishing the mild strains from severe strains of CTV.

Review on True Bugs Infesting Tree Fruits, Upland Crops, and Weeds in Korea (과수, 전작물 및 잡초의 노린재에 관한 국내 연구 현황)

  • Some species of true bugs have become serious problems in rice, upland crops, and tree fruits. It would be meaningful to understand research status by reviewing articles on those true bugs in Korea. Articles on those bugs published in several scientific Korean journals were reviewed, except articles on true bugs on rice plants; CD Part 1 included classification and morphological studies on eggs and larvae of Piesma spp., on external genitalia of Gonopsis affinis, and on spermathecae of some Podopinae and Asopinae species. $\circled2$ Development and growth analysis of Piesma sp., P. maculata, and 2 species of Coreidae were reviewed in part 2. $\circled3$ In part 3 we reviewed with major pest bug species on soybean, sweet persimmon, yuzu, citrus, chrysanthemum, and Cynanchum wilfordii, and insect fauna in mountain areas. $\circled4$ In part 4, damage levels in soybean, sweet persimmon, yuzu, grapes were reviewed. $\circled5$ ID In part 5 we reviewed seasonal occurrence patterns of Halyomorpha halys, Plautia stali, Riptortus clavatus in sweet persimmon orchards, of some species in soybean fields, of Nysius plebejus on chrysanthemum, and of Tropidothorax cruciger on Cynanchum wilfordii. $\circled6$ Chemical control methods in a sweet persimmon orchard, in grapevine yards, in a soybean field, and in a chrythansemum field were introduced in part 6. Some laboratory bioassay on insecticides against R. clavatus were mentioned, too. $\circled7$ Finally in part 7, researches on transmission by Halyomorpha halys and Cyrtopeltis tenuis of micoplasma-like organism which is a pathogen of paulownia withces' -broom to Catharanthus roseus were reviewed.
