Efficacy of Needling at Sympathetic Point (an Auricular Acupuncture Point) in Migraine Patients: A Randomized Controlled Study

  • Background: Migraine is a common disabling headache that affects every aspect of a person's life. Auricular acupuncture is a cost-effective treatment modality for the management of painful neurological conditions. Previous studies have shown the beneficial effects of a combination of ear points in the management of migraines. However, no studies have evaluated the efficacy of a single auricular point (i.e., sympathetic point) in migraine. Thus, this study evaluated the efficacy of sympathetic points on pain intensity and depression levels in patients with migraine. Methods: In this randomized controlled study, 100 patients with migraine aged 18-45 years were randomly divided into either an auricular acupuncture group (AAG) (n = 50) or a placebo control group (PCG) (n = 50). The AAG underwent needling at the sympathetic point (an auricular acupuncture point), whereas the PCG underwent needling at a non-acupuncture point for 20 minutes daily for 7 days. Assessments were performed before and after the intervention using a 6-item headache impact test (HIT-6) and Beck depression inventory (BDI) scale. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 16. Results: In within-group analysis, the AAG showed a significant reduction in HIT-6 and BDI, whereas the PCG showed a significant increase in HIT-6 and a significant reduction in BDI. In between-groups analyses, HIT-6 reduced significantly in the AAG compared with that in the PCG, whereas BDI reduced significantly in the PCG compared with that in the AAG. Conclusion: In patients with migraine, needling at the sympathetic point produces a greater reduction in the pain intensity level and lesser reduction in the depression level compared to needling at a non-acupuncture point.

Various medical systems being practiced in India other than conventional medicine i.e. Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy have defined health in their own way. From physical level up to spiritual level health has so many aspects which affect our overall personality. Some says that one who is established in self is healthy but some other says that in a perfect state of health physical homeostasis and mental equanimity occur in a balanced and healthy harmony. Another concept believes that health is normal and harmonious vibration of the elements and forces composing the human entity on the physical, mental, moral and spiritual planes of living in accordance with the constructive principles in Nature. At one place it is stated that good health means existence in harmony with evolution. The authors have reviewed various concepts and definitions of health and trying to conclude that health is a feeling which may be experienced only if you are really healthy. So, health is more and more balancing of all elements of your life in harmony with the universe.

  • Among five sense organs or Gyanendriyas 'Eyes' are considered as most important sense organs. They are said to be the path to mind and seat of Tejas (Light). Now a days due to their overuse and negligence in maintenance we are facing many eye related problems like Dry Eye Syndrome, Cataract, Age related Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Computer Vision Syndrome etc. To observe the association of defective lifestyle and related eye problems with their preventive measures, different Ayurvedic procedures are reviewed from ancient literatures and some modern researches. Dinacharya (Daily regimen) explained in Ayurveda helps to prevent many derangements. Lifestyle modification in terms of proper daily regimen and dietary regimen could help to prevent eye problems. Padabhyanga (foot massage) is one of the procedures mentioned in Dinacharya, an effective therapy for healing of eye disorders.

  • 본 논문에서는 COVID-19 팬데믹으로 인해 사회적 거리두기 및 규제조치가 시행되면서 다양한 분야에서 큰 영향을 가져왔다. 변화된 홈트레이닝 분야는 운동기구를 구비하여 개인운동을 통해 건강을 유지하고 있으나 전문적인 교육을 받지 않은 홈트레닝으로 부상 위험에 노출 되고 있다. 요가는 호흡운동과 명상을 지향하는 운동으로 요가의 효과를 얻기 위해 올바른 움직임과 자세가 중요 하다. 본 논문에서는 실시간으로 입력된 영상 프레임을 OpenCV와 MediaPipe를 통해 추출된 주요좌표 값을 벡터 내적공식을 대입, 코사인2법칙을 통해 요가의 올바른 자세를 분석하여 종합적인 정보를 제공하는 요가교정 모델이다.
