  • The stand alone induction generator has been excited by capacitor bank or voltage source inverters. The conventional excitation methods offer several restrictions on the operation of the induction generator in various operating conditions. To overcome the restrictions, this paper presents the induction generator system excited by the current controlled inverter which operates on the principle of vector control. The proposed control scheme is based on the rotor flux oriented indirect vector control. The steady state characteristics are investigated to yield control ranges under various operating conditions. Through the simulation, it is confirmed that the system has good dynamic characteristics wi thin the controllable ranges given by the steady state analysis.

  • Temperature conditions in the mushroom cultivating room affected color, yield, pinheading rate, growth rate and other characteristics of fruitbody. These results seemed to tell the quality of mushroom. Carbon dioxide gas generated from respiration of mushroom also made stipe length long and pilei size small. High concentration of carbon dioxide could make fruitbody abnormal or dead. Mycelial shapes in fruitbody inner tissue were different according to the part and the size of fruitbody.

  • The cold rolled strip meets continuously rising demands on the less deviation of thickness at the width direction of their rolled products. Especially, the special interest has been to find the methods to reduce the edge drop which influences seriously on the yield losses and the quality of the rolled products. In this study, the influence of hot coils on the thickness profile of cold rolled strip was analyzed. For obtainint the tapered work roll shig\ft conditions, the thermal crown and the flattening between the work roll and the strip were calculated, and the main parameters which have mostly effects on the edge drop were simulated. Also the obtained conditions from the simulation were applied to Tandem Cold Rolling Mill to investigate the change of the edge drop and the crown ratio depending on the amount of work roll taper and the length of contact of taper. The results of the application led to better thickness profile than conventional one.

  • Randomized block design (RBD) with three replication is very frequently adopted in agricultural experiments of the Rural Development Administration of Korea. Even though it works well in field trials of traditional crops, it may not accomodate trial site conditions and/or experimental environment. In this research report, we deal with two such cases. The first case is for a crop experiment in green houses. In house conditions, RBD may not be appropriate since it cannot reflect two directions of the yield gradient. So, a Latin square design is suggested as an alternative. The second case is for local field experiments of the newly-inbred rice. RBD with three replications is used without doubt for decades, even though the site layout is not appropriately shaped for the design. In this case, we suggest the RBD in two blocks with multiple replicates for control varieties as an alternative. To improve the quality of statistical experimental designs in over one-thousand agricultural trials performed annually in the Rural Development Administration, we need to re-train agricultural researchers on the design and analysis of experiments and call for concerns of Korean statisticians.

  • The study was performed to obtain the optimum extraction conditions for crocin from gardenia fructus. Generally crocin is unstable on heat, light, acid and base solution. The extraction efficiency of crocin from gardenia depended upon the extraction time, extraction temperature, pH in the extraction bath and the optimum conditions of crocin extraction were determined as 60 minutes of extraction time, 4$0^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature, pH 7 of extraction bath. The molar extinction coefficient of crocin was 12,515 and the color yield of purified crocin was about six times higher than that of non-purified crocin. The heat-stability at extraction temperature and lightstability in irradiation with xenon lamp for one hour of the purified crocin were higher than those of non-purified crocin. Intensity of &{\lambda}_{max}&of crocin was decreased by irradiation for one hour but UV-Vis. spectra of crocin was not changed. The colors of purified and non-purified crocin dissolved wit methanol was evaluated by means of CIE L* a* b* system.

  • In order make natural food color from gardenia(Gardenia jasminoides), we investigated optimal conditions of color extraction, in case of water extraction, optimal conditions for color extraction were 7$0^{\circ}C$, 48hrs, pH 7.0 and substrate 10%, respectively. And extracted crude color was purified by activated white clay, were isolated glycoside peak (238nm) and yellow color peak(40nm) from extracted crude color. The pruified color was increased by 27-fold and the yield was 96%.

  • The development of high-rise firefighting vehicles warrants thorough structural analysis for ensuring vehicle stability. A few structural analyses were carried out using CAD data, material properties, load conditions, and boundary conditions for evaluating the structural stability of an overloaded multi-aerial platform for firefighting and rescue. Structural analysis was performed with an analytical model consisting of a turntable, six booms, two jib booms, and a basket structure. This model was operated in eight modes. All simulation was performed using NASTRAN, a commercial code. As a result, we confirm that the position of local stress exceeds that of the yield strength. Therefore, stress concentration relaxation is possible by introducing reinforcing boom structures, changing the shape, or imparting a larger moment of inertia to the booms' cross sections.

  • Fueled by ballooning oil prices, waste plastics are now regarded as being cheap and abundant renewable sources, removing their stigma of dirty wastes Catalytic pryolysis of plastics in liquid phase allows recovery of light fuel oil as well as green treatment of polymerics wastes, and therefore significant efforts have been devoted to this research field. In this study, catalytic Pyrolysis of LDPE was carl ied out in semi-batch reactor which equipped a unit of separation and recirculation. The effect of react ion conditions were examined by analyzing liquid oil yield and carbon number distribution of products

  • A bacterial strain of Brevibaterium sp. CH1 was isolated and used to produce an enzyme (nitrile hydratase) necessary for earring out the bioconversion of acrylonitrile to acrylamide. The culture and reaction conditions, and medium optimization were studied for the strain. The conversion yield was nearly 100% with a trace amount of acrylic acid produced. The strain showed strong activity of nitrile hydratase toward acrylonitrile and extremely low activity of the amidase toward acrylamide. We sought optimum culture conditions for the formation of nitrile hydratase by Brevibacterium sp. CH1. The effects of temperature and pH on the activity of free and immobilized tells were investigated. The nitrite hydratase of Brevibacterium sp. CH1 acted not only on various aliphatic nitrites such as acrylonitrile, propionitrile and acetonitrile, but also on aromatic nitrile as nicotinonitrile.

  • Dyeing on silk with vat dyes which shows good color fastness at strong alkaline conditions were newly examined. The optimum conditions of dyeing bath to prevent the damage on the tensile strength and elongation were sodium hydroxide(NaOH) 10g/l, sodium hydrosulfite(Na2S2O4) 20~22 g/l, for 30 min at 5$0^{\circ}C$. The color yield of silk fabrics was increase according to the concentration of NaOH and Na2S2O4, but decreased at higher concentration than that of NaOH 10g/l and Na2S2O4 22g/l. The vat dyeings showed excellent color fastness against washing and light, compared with the conventional dyeings.
