  • Surface subsidence caused by mining subsidence has an impact on neighboring structures and utilities. In other words, subsurface voids created by mining or tunneling activities induce soil movement, exposing buildings to physical and/or functional destruction. Soil-structure is evaluated employing probability distribution laws to account for their uncertainty and complexity to estimate structural vulnerability. In this study, to investigate the displacement field and surface settlement profile caused by mining subsidence, on the basis of a Winklersoil model, analytical equations for the moment-rotation response ofsoil during mining induced ground movements are developed. To define the full static moment-rotation response, an equation for the uplift-yield state is constructed and integrated with equations for the uplift- and yield-only conditions. The constructed model's findings reveal that the inverse of the factor of safety (x) has a considerable influence on the moment-rotation curve. The maximal moment-rotation response of the footing is defined by X = 0:6. Despite the use of Winkler model, the computed moment-rotation response results derived from the literature were analyzed through the ELM-SVM hybrid of Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Also, Monte Carlo simulations are used to apply continuous random parameters to assess the transmission of ground motions to structures. Following the findings of RMSE and R2, the results show that the choice of probabilistic laws of input parameters has a substantial impact on the outcome of analysis performed.

  • The performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beam specimens strengthened using a newly proposed Side Near Surface Mounted (S-NSM) technology was investigated experimentally in this work. In addition, analytical and nonlinear finite element (FE) modeling was exploited to forecast the performance of RC members reinforced with S-NSM utilizing steel bars. Five (one control and four strengthened) RC beams were evaluated for flexural performance under static loading conditions employing four-point bending loads. Experimental variables comprise different S-NSM reinforcement ratios. The constitutive models were applied for simulating the non-linear material characteristics of used concrete, major, and strengthening reinforcements. The failure load and mode, yield and ultimate strengths, deflection, strain, cracking behavior as well as ductility of the beams were evaluated and discussed. To cope with the flexural behavior of the tested beams, a 3D non-linear FE model was simulated. In parametric investigations, the influence of S-NSM reinforcement, the efficacy of the S-NSM procedure, and the structural response ductility are examined. The experimental, numerical, and analytical outcomes show good agreement. The results revealed a significant increase in yield and ultimate strengths as well as improved failure modes.

  • The practical use of Korean native black goat skin as a source of gelatin extraction is limited. The objective of this study was to optimize the extraction temperature and time of gelatin from Korean native black goat skin, and to compare the quality characteristics of goat skin gelatin and other commercial gelatin products. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the extraction temperature and time of gelatin obtained from native Korean black goat skin. The effects of temperature (50℃-70℃) and time (2-4 h) on extraction yield and gel strength were investigated using a face-centered central composite design with 13 experiments. Gelatin extraction from Korean native black goat skin was prepared through the serial processes of alkali pre-treatment, bleaching, neutralization, hot-water extraction, and freeze-drying. Using the optimization plot of Minitab software, the optimized conditions for extracting temperature and time of goat skin gelatin were 59.49℃ and 3.03 h, and the optimized values of extraction yield and gel strength were 12.52% and 263.37 g, respectively. Based on a quality comparison of goat skin gelatin with commercial gelatin, the pH value of gelatin extracted from Korean native black goat skin was 5.57. The color of gelatin extracted from Korean native black goat skin was darker than that of commercial gelatin (p<0.05). Higher emulsifying properties and gel strength of goat skin gelatin were observed when compared to those of commercial gelatin (p<0.05). Therefore, the results of this study indicate that Korean native black goat skin may be a valuable source for gelatin extraction.

  • Vinyl acetate(VAc) was dispersion-polymerized using supercritical carbon dioxide that has many environmental advantages. To get poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) of larger molecular weights from conventional emulsion polymerization, VAc was polymerized at temperatures between 333.15 and 343.15 K and pressures between 20 and 40 MPa with initiator (0.5 ~ 5% of monomer) and silicone-based stabilizer (1 ~ 10% of monomer) for 2 ~ 50 hr. The resulting PVAc was analyzed to see the variations in the yield and the molecular weight. The final product of this research, PVA (poly(vinyl alcohol)), was prepared from PVAc by saponification. The effect of saponification conditions on the yield and the molecular weight of polymer were also studied.

  • BACKGROUND: Selection an suitable light source is essential in the year-round production of horticultural crops in closed production systems such as plant factory with controlled environments. This study was investigated to confirm the effects of artificial light sources on growth of cherry tomato'CF Jelly'(Lycopersicon esculentum var.) under high-pressure sodium lamps (HPS), metal-halide lamps (MH), and LEDs. METHODS AND RESULTS: Light intensity of the light sources was controlled at 220±30 µmol/m2/s with 12 hrs of photoperiod for a day. Flower development was significantly faster in HPS and MH treatments compared to the LEDs. There was no significant difference between the leaf number and leaf shape under the HPS and MH treatments. Reproductive growth of cherry tomato was significantly promoted by the LEDs treatment of blue plus red lights. Fruit yield per plant also increased under the LEDs compared to the others. CONCLUSION(S): Growth, flowering, and fruit setting of the cherry tomato were accomplished by the artificial lights under plant factory conditions. The HPS treatment showed negative effect on fruit quality in terms of blossom-end rot incidence compared to the LEDs or MH treatment. Effect of the LEDs on promotion of fruit weight and yield was also proved. Additional research should be carried out for improving sugar metabolism or decreasing disease in the fruits under plant factory system using only artificial lights.

  • To improve the carbon recovery yield of chemical pretreatment in soil and sediment for $^{14}C$ age dating using AMS (Accelerator Mass Spectrometry), we have developed ultrasonic method in chemical pretreatment to replace with stirring method which has been generally used in each step of humic acid extraction for soil and sediment samples. Extraction conditions such as ultrasonic power, temperature and reaction time have been optimized. Six times higher carbon recovery yield could be obtained from low carbon content samples using ultrasonic method. We also compared the dating results by AMS obtained using ultrasonic method with the ages of samples treated by the stirring method. It was found that this new method could be applied to the pretreatment process of low carbon content samples for AMS age dating without effects on the dated ages, and with highly improved carbon recovery yields.

  • Foliar fertilization of carbonated water during lettuce hydroponic cultivation was increased photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance as higher carbon dioxide concentration of carbonated water The higher the carbon dioxide concentration in the carbonated water was better growth of lettuce. However, the carbon dioxide concentration of 500 ppm and 700 ppm in the carbonated water was increased the tip-burn occurrence, and the yield was higher in the 300 ppm. the carbon dioxide concentration of 300 ppm in the carbonated water was lower in the fresh weight but increased yield resulted in the lower of the tip-burn occurrence The high temperature limits for growth were 32℃ in the control, 33℃ in the 300ppm and 34℃ in the 500 ppm according to analyze chlorophyll fluorescent Fo. The high temperature tolerance in lettuce increased approximately 4℃ by foliar fertilization treatments of carbonated water under this experiment conditions. Also the activity of SOD(superoxide dismutase), the antioxidant enzyme, was higher with high carbon dioxide concentration of the carbonated water.

  • Rice is an important staple in the world. And drought is one of the important constraints that negatively affect yield loss and grain quality of rice. CRISPR/Cas9 is a new breeding strategy that can improve the characteristics of rice quickly and accurately. CRISPR/Cas9 is a novel approach that can reliably harvest rice yields in response to a rapidly changing climate. In addition, there is no externally inserted DNA left in genome-editing rice, and it is receiving attention as being able to take responsibility for future food because its characteristics are continuously improved. In the future, high levels of drought resistant in water-constrained environments will be required, which will reduce yield loss. OsSAP was genome-editing with CRISPR/Cas9 in rice. A different line number was assigned to each panicle, and the generation advanced by applying the ear-to-row method. Genome-editing rice has improved drought resistance in drought conditions. Also, in genome-editing rice, the target sequence was homozygous in the 0 generation, and the coefficient of variation of heading date, number of tiller, and 1,000-grain weight was very small in 2 generation. In the era of rapidly changing climate change, CRISPR/Cas9 presents a new breeding strategy that can rapidly and accurately improve agronomic traits of major food crops as well as rice. CRISPR/Cas9 is applied together with traditional breeding to develop into a new breeding strategy, it is suggested that food can be obtained stably in response to climate change.

  • Recently, soybean production and market price are unstable, even if demand of soybean is maintained. Diverse conditions such as climate change, a decrease in rural population, and consuming affect food industry. In this situation, food security is soaring as important key-word again, and MAFRA is promoting policies for improving soybean self-sufficiency with the goal of 40% until 2030. The point of policy is to extend a production and stabilize a demand for soybean with supporting large-scale soybean paddy-field complex. According to the background, soybean breeding and production research in NICS are proceeded with three parts. First, production improvement with soybean cultivation land enlargement and high-yield cultivar development. Various growth period soybean cultivars for double cropping, irrigation management technologies in paddy field, and hyper-yield and specific-region adaptable cultivar development. Second, reduction of production expense with mechanized cultivation and digital-based field management technologies. Third, consumer-friendly and high quality soybeans with high protein cultivar for alternative protein usage and high food process-ability for soy milk, tofu, soybean sprouts, and grain usage. Each part need to be combined and advanced to improve soybean industry and soybean self-sufficiency.

  • Pyrolysis oil (C5-C20) produced using plastic non-oxidative pyrolysis technology produces naphtha oil (C5-C10) through a separation process, and naphtha oil produces hydrogen through a reforming reaction to secure economic efficiency and social and environmental benefits. In this study, waste plastic pyrolysis oil was subjected to a steam reforming reaction on a commercialized catalyst of 46-3Q And it was found that the 46-3Q catalyst reformed the pyrolysis oil to produce hydrogen. Therefore, an experiment was performed to increase hydrogen yield and minimize the byproduct of ethylene. The reaction experiment was performed using actual waste plastic oil (C8-C11) with temperature, steam/carbon ratio (S/C) ratio, and space velocity as variables. We studied reaction conditions that can maximize hydrogen yield and minimize ethylene byproducts.
