Mechanical Properties of Woven Fabrics Made from Thick & Thin Yarn (태세사(Thick & Thin Yarn)로 제작된 직물의 역학적 특성)

  • The aim of this work is to develop sense-differentiated textiles using Thick-Thin polyester yarn(T-T yarn) with finer than 1 denier mono filament. The ITY(Interlace Textured Yarn) using T-T yarn with various over feed ratios of PET filament was manufactured with different shrinking percentage of core yarn and then the fabrics were woven on the same weaving 100m using ITY produced. The mechanical properties and the handles of the fabrics were examined with KES-FB system suggested by Kawabata. The shrinkage of ITY was increased with decreasing over feed ratio and increased with increasing heat treatment temperature of T-T yarn. The initial elasticity modulus of ITY was decreased with increasing over feed ratio and heat treatment temperature of T-T yarn. The tensile energy of fabrics was decreased with increasing of over feed ratio, but bending rigidity and shear rigidity of fabrics were increased with increasing of over feed ratio of PET filament. The results indicate that the fabric using T-T yarn with finer than I denier mono filament can be used for the purpose of sense-differentiated textile.

A Study on Weave Design of Supplementary Warp using Computer-Aided Weaving System (CAW(Computer-Aided Weaving) 시스템을 활용한 Supplementary Warp의 직조디자인 연구)

  • The major advantages to use CAD System are that it reduce time and effort to manufacture products, and also can demonstrate the condition of the final product prior to the actual manufacturing process of the selected design using the simulation programs in CAD system. Specially in weave design, for use as Computer-Aided Weaving system, the complicated Dobby weave can figured out easily through calculating the complex weave plans of multi shafts. As to one of dobby weave structures, Supplementary warp is the warp threads which are in addition to the regular warps of the woven fabrics, and used for decorating the band or expressing some patterns. The purpose of this study is to research the weave design of Supplementary warp using Computer-Aided Weaving system, which is dobby weave design program of Weave Point. For performing this design study, it was researched the classified woven fabrics depending upon weaving processing, Computer-Aided Weaving system, and the characteristic of Supplementary warp fabrics. On the basis of the theoretical research, Supplementary warp was worked for the 24-shafts AVL computer dobby loom that applied to the various patterned images. The design work was done by Weave Point program of dobby weave, and simulated to fabrics before woven into the computer dobby loom. To see the visual images of fashion items, these simulated bobby fabrics were processed by three-dimension modeling through YoungWoo CNI CAD system. All the patterns of the Supplementary warp in this study could be applied for decorating the fashion clothing and accessories.

The Effects of Washing and Drying on the Dimensional Stability of Woven Fabrics with and without Spandex (세탁 및 건조과정에 의한 스판덱스 혼방 직물의 변형 비교)

  • There is increased interest in clothes dryers and garments made of spandex-blend woven fabrics; however, there is limited information available for the laundering and drying these clothes. This study investigates the effects of washing and drying on shrinkage, skewness, and wrinkle for woven fabrics with and without spandex. When spandex with good elastic recovery was blended, the deformed shape from washing and drying improved skewness and wrinkle by easily returning to its original shape. However, these properties had a negative effect on shrinkage in terms of length and area change. When the influence of clothes maintenance was classified, the drying process had the biggest influence of 58%, followed by spinning-rinsingwashing. Tumble drying, in which the fabric is exposed to mechanical force and heat for a long period, had more negative effects on the dimensional stability than line drying. The spandex blend had the effect of preventing skewness and wrinkle in garments, but it was also shown to accelerate shrinkage by garment maintenance cycles. It was important to control drying in order to reduce shrinkage during the maintenance process; consequently, this had the greatest influence on the dimensional stability of fabrics. Therefore, line drying was more advantageous for spandex-blend fabrics than tumble drying in terms of management for shrinkage, skewness, and wrinkle.

Frictional Characteristics Between Same Fabrics (동일 직물간의 마찰 특성)

  • In this study, the correlations of the two frictional testers have been investigated; one is the KES-FB4 system, the other is the Fabric-on-Fabric Frictional tester which was devised by authors. According to the results, the correlation between the frictional coefficients measured by the two testers has been shown highly as the load increased. But the effect of roughness of fabric surface was not dearly revealed in this study. The frictional characteristics of fabric woven from filament yarns were different with those of fabric woven from spun yarns. And, like the other materials, the effect of load on fabrics used in this experiment was related with the frictional force between two fabrics. The frictional behaviors, however, were obviously different with harder material because the frictional coefficients were not constant as the load increased.

Protective Thin Films on PAN Fiber for Water Resistant Modification by Plasma Polymerization (PAN직물의 내수성개질을 위한 보호성 플라즈마중합박막제조)

  • Plasma polymerization of Perfiuoropropene(PFP) and n-Hexane was carried out in a tubular type reactor by means of 13.56MHz radio frequency generator at the fixed RF discharge power of 25W and at the pressures of 100mTorr, 140mTorr and 200mTorr. The thin films were deposited on PAN fabrics in order to improve the dimemsional stability of woven states in hot water laundry. IR spectroscopy was used for the analysis of the structures of the thin films deposited and SEM for examination of surfaces of the fabrics. the PAN fabrics, which were coated by thin films at several experimental conditions, were immersed in boiling water for 2 hours and then the dimension stability of woven states were evaluated. In spite of very thin films, the results of surface modification were satisfactory. In general the performace of thin films by PFP was superior to that of n-Hexane.

  • The water vapor permeability of polypropylene spun bond non-woven fabrics were investigated with the water vapor permeability velocity at $20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ by applying the hygroscopic method. At each temperature 50, 65 and 80 %RH conditions were used. The results indicated that the water vapor permeability velocity increased with increasing the water vapor concentration difference between both sides of sample surfaces and it decreased with increasing the number of the piled-up fabrics and the apparent density.

  • Electrically conducting polymers such as polypyrrole(PPy) or poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene)(PEDOT) were sequentially polymerized chemically and electrochemically on various kinds of woven fabrics, giving rise to the fabrics with high electrical conductivity. The specific volume resistivity of the fabric prepared in this study was extremely low as 0.2 $\Omega$-cm. We figured out the electrically conducting fabrics were practically useful for many applications such as an EMI shielding material, a flexible surface heating element or a strain sensor for large deformation.

  • This study surveys the fabric mechanical properties according to the weaving design & finishing conditions of wool fabrics for quality control in the process. For this purpose, 8 kinds of Twill groups and 3 kinds of Plain groups weave fabrics, totally 428 woven fabrics are prepared with change of the yarn count, density and finishing method. Fabric thickness, bending rigidity, extensibility, shear rigidity, formability of the fabrics were measured and discussed with weaving design & finishing conditions.

  • The functional non-woven fabrics have been applied in various industry fields, such as clothing, hygiene, environment, medical and so forth. The functional non-woven fabrics for wet tissue were manufactured by meltblown and wet tissue finishing processes. The wet tissue was contained the various composition substances such as Benzalkonium Chloride(0.2292g), lodo-2-propynyl Butyl carbamate(0.0069g) and 5-Chloro-2-Methyl-Isothiazolin -3-one, 2-Methyl-Isothiazolin-3-one (0.0034g) with purified water (999.76g). In this study, the functional wet tissue based on meltblown nonwovens has been applied in dairy cattle for prevention on cow mastitis. Mastitis is the most costly disease results in lost milk production, decreased milk quality, milk discard, early culling of cows, drug costs and labor costs in dairy cattle. Therefore, this study was investigated to evaluate clinical effect of the functional wet tissue in mastitis control. The results, after experiment the functional wet tissue used group, demonstrated that the infection rate, cure rate and mean somatic cell count(SCC) were significantly decreased as compared to the control group.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate water and after vapor transport characteristics of underwear fabrics. Experimental materials were cotton woven fabric and cotton knitted fabric, nylon tricot (untreated and hydrophilic finished) and cotton/polyester/cotton triple layer. Cotton knitted fabric have three types of knit structure (interlock, rib, plain stitch) and knit with either 38's or 60's combed yarn. And cotton woven fabric have plain weave with 60's combed yarn. As experimental methods, vapor cup test, dynamic method, vertical wicking test and transplanar uptake test were used. The results are as follows. 1) In cotton specimens, the order of water vapor transpiration (wvt) was plain > rib > interlock in the same yarn diameter. The knit fabric of thinner yarn showed the better wvt among the same knit structure. 2) In cotton specimens, the order of water absorbency was interlock > rib > plain in the same yarn diameter. the knit fabric of thicker yarn showed the better absorbency among the same knit structure. 3) When knit fabric (60's plain) is compared with woven fabric 960's plain), knit fabric showed faster rate of wvt, more amount of uptake and slower rate of water uptake than woven fabric did. 4) When compared untreated nylon with hydrophilic finished nylon, hydrophilic finished nylon showed much more water absorbency than untreated nylon did, but showed same rate of wvt. 5) The water transport characteristics of triple layer underwear fabric showed that the thinner and the lighter one, the better wvt and absorbency did.
