  • The purpose of the study are to examine the perception of the importance and performance of patient education of the clinical nurse and find out the interfering factors in practicing patient education. The data were collected from convenient sample of 256 clinical nurses working in the nursing units of adult patients except the psychiatric unit, obstetric unit, dental surgical unit and intensive care unit of one University Hospital in Seoul from September 29 to October 2, 1998. Three measurement tools of self-report- questionnaires developed by researcher used. For the content validity of the questionnaires, two sessions of panel discussion and a pilot test were done and finally factor analysis was done with Varimax method. Analysis of data was done with SAS program using frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, t-test and ANOVA. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The surveyed nurses perceived the importance of patient education at higher level with mean score of 4.08 among 5 point than their perception of practice( mean score : 3.42). 2. There was positive significant correlation(r=.29, p=0.0001)between nurses' perception of the importance of patient education and it's practice 3. Among the teaching contents for patients, 'information of diagnostic procedure and operation' and 'orientation of hospitalization' were perceived most important. And 'preparation for discharge' and 'understanding of disease and health promotion' were perceived least important 4. Among the teaching contents for patients, 'orientation of hospitalization' and 'information of diagnostic procedure and operation' were perceived highly performable. And 'understanding of disease and health promotion' and 'preparation for discharge' were perceived least performable. 5. Three types of interfering factors were identified as patient-factor, situational factor, nurse-factor. The mean degree of impediment with the interfering factors was at average level(3.09 among 5). The patient and situational factors of impediments were more interfering than nurse- factor for teaching patients. 6. In older age(p<.05), married state (p<.05), higher educational status (p<.01), higher clinical experience (p<.01) and higher position(p<.01), the score of perceived importance of patients education was more high. 7. In older age(p<.01), higher clinical experience(p<.001) and surgical unit (p<.01), the score of perceived performance of patients education was more high. • Purpose - Over 90% of Domestic logistics industry is small enterprise and they are experiencing growth stagnation due to price-based competition structure rather than constructing logistics service of high added value. In order to get over this situation and pursue the development of logistics industry, strengthening its competitiveness, through inter-enterprise cooperative network build-up, would be a key alternative. Therefore, in this study, an index for measuring inter-enterprise cooperation level of Joint logistics business will be developed as a typical collaborative business model in logistics industry. Moreover, a strengthening competitiveness method suggests a developmental step and a key management index to mature in logistics industry. Research Design, Data, Methodology - This study is an index development research for measuring inter-enterprise cooperation level of logistics industry. Such a level was measured by performing a survey by targeting enterprises that participated in Joint logistics business. The targeting enterprises are typical cooperative models in logistics industry. Measurement items were developed which were based on the presented items in existing research. Question items were composed of selection type questions as answering Yes/No. They measures implementation status of corporate activity and detailed activity items measuring qualitative level. Total samples were based on 116 enterprise samples including 90 logistics enterprises and 26 shippers. In addition, by evaluating the importance for Joint logistics business recognition with personnel working level, the weight of measuring variable was extracted. This study has built an assessment tools (LPCI) on Joint logistics business cooperation level in a situation where there are no previous studies on joint logistics business, this study is meaningful for other studies. Results - As a result of analyzing LPCI presented in this study, the score of logistics enterprise was represented as 59.9 points based on full score of 100 points and that of shippers as 47.2 points and cooperation level among enterprises participated in Joint logistics business was revealed to be very low. In particular, as a result of measuring the importance between logistics enterprise and shippers, the difference by each measurement standard was represented among those enterprises. This difference is considered to be a key factor that cooperative operational conformity between logistics enterprises and shippers is represented to be low. Conclusions - As most joint logistics business, being promoted at present, is sharing facility and information with joint logistics business, it is hard to find such a joint logistics business in reality based on cooperative business model in main cooperation agents. Therefore, competitiveness of logistics industry could be strengthened by promoting joint logistics business based on their mutual cooperation among enterprises. In other words, it is to secure sustainable competitiveness of joint logistics business together with creation of new market by inter-enterprise cooperation based on integration of basic logistics business.

  • "Color" education aimed at cultivating creativeness and expressive techniques in the education of visual art, in the college of art and design, should be balanced with "form" education; nevertheless, the present situation at Korean universities is such that the overall environments of "color" education are far too inferior to those of "form" education. The problem is, among other things, that the curriculum of visual art education is centered around formal education; in addition, color education courses consist mostly of theoretical issues, not experimental, first-hand-experience-oriented activities that are best suited for the characteristics of the language of color as a visual language, thereby making it difficult to expect the efficiency of education.Particularly, it is a serious problem that the courses dealing with color are not offered in a step by step fashion, from the most elementary, to the intermediate, working up to the most advanced level. Another problem is that those people involved in color education seldom have an expertise in their area; furthermore, the educational environment, educational tools, and the content of the texbooks are far from being ideal. Moreover, it is a grim reality that most color theory courses that have been offered end up being a lecture of "general, basic" color theories, ignoring the students' diverse specialization areas. As a way of normalizing color education, rationalizing the curriculum and initiating the professorship exclusively teaching color education have to be introduced, so that we can increase the depth of color education and individualize the contents of color education according to the students' needs. It is believed that the introduction of the "color-education-only" professorship will greatly facilitate our effort to devise an efficient educational method, to determine the scope of individualized color education, and to improve the ovarial educational environment (such as facilities, instruments, and teaching materials) necessary for an in-depth education.ments, and teaching materials) necessary for an in-depth education.

  • Purpose: To provide practical data for bioethics education, we identified correlations between recognition of good death, attitude towards withdrawal of meaningless life-sustaining treatment, and attitude towards euthanasia in nurses. Methods: Using convenience sampling, we recruited 218 nurses who had at least six-month work experience in one of the six general hospitals with 500 or more beds in Seoul, Busan, and Gyeongsang province. All participants understood the purpose of the study and agreed to take part in the study. The research tools used included the Concept of Good Death Measure (CoGD), the measurement tool for attitudes towards withdrawal of meaningless life-sustaining treatment (WoMLST), and the measurement tool for attitudes towards euthanasia. Data were analyzed using an Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS 21 for Windows. Results: Nurses had normal levels on CoGD, WoMLST, and attitudes towards euthanasia. Nurses' CoGD, WoMLST, and euthanasia scores significantly differed depending on their education level, working period, and the importance of religion to them. A negative correlation was found between the CoGD and WoMLST scores, and WoMLST and euthanasia scores were positively correlated. Conclusion: Nurses should be trained to deal with ethical issues that may arise while caring for terminal patients. It is necessary for nurses to understand the concepts related to CoGD, WoMLST, and euthanasia, and to promote bioethics education with focus on decision-making and problem-solving ability in ethically conflicting situations.

  • With an increase in demand for the high added value of shipbuilding and marine industry based on the information and communications technology (ICT), software technology has become more important than ever in the industry. In this paper, we present the result of our preliminary investigation on the current software development environment in the shipbuilding and marine industry in order to develop reusable software component, which can enhance the competitiveness of software development. The investigation is performed based on the survey answers from 34 developers who are working in different shipbuilding and marine companies. The questionnaire is composed of items to gather the information of each company such as the number of employees and product domain, and actual software development environment such as operating system, programming languages, deployment format, obstacles for developing components, and the adoption of software development methods and tools. According to the results of the survey, the most important consideration to select their development platform was the number of available utilities and the technical supports, followed by performance, price and security problems. In addition, the requirements of various platforms supporting and the higher reliability, and the limitations of low development cost and manpower made it difficult for them to develop reusable software components. Finally, throughout the survey, we find out that only 15% of developers used software development processes and managed the quality to systematically develop their software products, therefore, shipbuilding and marine companies need more technical and institutional support to improve their ability to develop high qualified software.

  • This study was conducted to assess the current status of food safety/sanitation training programs, including HACCP, for kitchen and hall employees at major hotels, as well as how differently the training can affect the employees' recognition and performance of food safety/sanitation management in areas related to the facility, food, and their personal hygiene. A questionnaire for assessing the recognition and performance of sanitation management was developed and distributed to 430 employees currently working in the kitchens and halls of 5 hotels located in Seoul, Korea. A total of 324 questionnaires (kitchen: 138, hall: 186) were subjected to frequency analysis, chi-square tests, one way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis using SPSS/windows software. Ninety-one percent of the respondents had received food safety/sanitation training, which was conducted by a hygienist or a cook once a month. However, only 55% of the respondents had HACCP training. The employees that did not have HACCP training had lower recognition scores than those who had HACCP training, especially in the washing procedures for tablewares, handwashing tools, cross contamination, reheating, and HACCP definitions. Trained, full-time employees received significantly higher recognition and performance scores than untrained, contract, or part-time employees. Significant differences in the recognition and performance scores were found among the employees of the 5 different hotels, indicating various levels for the outcome of their sanitation training. In addition, Pearson's correlation analysis confirmed that the recognition and performance scores were significantly correlated (r=0.473, p<.001). This study indicates that hotel foodservice employees must receive systematic food safety/sanitation training, including HACCP, which provides the foundation for safe foodservice operations.
