  • The present study verifies compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, electrical resistance, permeable ratio, and shrinkage from waste glass controlled low strength materials (WGCLSM) and early-high-strength WGCSLM specimens, by replacing the sand with waste glass percentages of 0%, 10%,20%, and 30%. This study reveals that increasing amounts of waste LCD glass incorporated into concrete increases WGCLSM fluidity and reduces the setting time, resulting in good working properties. By increasing the glass to sand replacement ratio, the compressive strength decreases to achieve low-strength effects. Furthermore, the electrical resistance also rises as a result of increasing the glass to sand replacement ratio. Early-high-strength WGCSLM aged 28 days has twice the electrical resistance compared to general WGCSLM. Early-high-strength WGCSLM aged 7 days has a higher ultrasonic pulse velocity similar to WGCSLM aged 28 days. The variation of length with age of different compositions is all within the tolerance range of 0.025%. This study demonstrates that the proper composition ratio of waste LCD glass to sand in early-high-strength WGCSLM can be determined by using different amounts of glass-sand. A mechanism for LCD optical waste glass usage can be established to achieve industrial waste minimization, resource recycling, and economic security.

  • This paper makes the case that a new policy strategy to enhance a global green recovery is needed urgently. The new strategy requires two essential elements. First, G20 economies should follow the lead of South Korea and China and turn their green stimulus investments into a serious long-term commitment, and to support these investments, they should adopt environmental pricing policies and instigate pricing and regulatory reforms to reduce carbon dependency. Second, the G20 also needs to target and coordinate assistance to developing economies in science, technology and innovation (STI) for clean energy. Such assistance is essential to help developing economies to overcome the skills, technological and capital gap that they face in clean energy technologies over the long term. Reform of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is also necessary to establish a long-term global price signal for carbon, and to increase the coverage of developing economies, the sectors and technologies and the overall financing of clean energy projects. Formulating such a policy strategy should appeal to both the Asian-Pacific and Western economies comprising the G20, and by working together to formulate such a strategy, the G20 could lead the way toward a new era of global economic management and STI cooperation in clean energy.

  • As the biodegradation of wood constituents has been understood as a multi-basidiomycetes and enzymatic processes, this review will focus on the roles of low molecular compounds and radicals working in harmony with fungal enzymes. Wood rotting basidiomycete fungi penetrate wood, and lead to more easily metabolize carbohydrates of the wood complex. The white-rot fungi, having versatile enzymes, are able to attack directly the "lignin barrier". They also use a multi-enzyme system including so-called "feedback" type enzymes allowing for simultaneous degradation of lignin and carbohydrates. The multi-enzymes including laccase support the proposed route by explaining how the high molecular weight enzymes can function in the wood complex. These enzymes may function separately or cooperate each other. In addition, veratryl alcohol oxidase, cellobiose dehydrogenase, arylalcohol dehydrogenase, and particularly low molecular mediators and radicals have an important role in wood biodegradation. However, the possibility of other mechanism as well as other enzymes, as operating as feedback systems in the process of wood degradation, could not be excluded.

  • Perovskite type ceramic membranes which exhibit dual ion conduction (proton and oxygen ion conduction) can permeate water and can aid solving operational problems such as temperature gradient and carbon deposition associated with a working solid oxide fuel cell. From this point of view, it is crucial to reveal water transport mechanism and especially the nature of the surface sites that is necessary for water incorporation and evolution. $BaCe_{0.8}Y_{0.2}O_{3-{\alpha}}$ (BCY20) was used as a model proton and oxygen ion conducting membrane in this work. Four different catalytically modified membrane configurations were used for the investigations and water flux was measured as a function of temperature. In addition, CO was introduced to the permeate side in order to test the stability of membrane against water and $CO/CO_2$ and post operation analysis of used membranes were carried out. The results revealed that water incorporation occurs on any exposed electrolyte surface. However, the magnitude of water permeation changes depending on which membrane surface is catalytically modified. The platinum increases the water flux on the feed side whilst it decreases the flux on the permeate side. Water flux measurements suggest that platinum can block water permeation on the permeate side by reducing the access to the lattice oxygen in the surface layer.

  • Most cases of power transformer failure are caused by physical factors linked to the transient vibrations of multiple 120Hz combinations. In addition, the noise generated in the transformer from this vibration not only directly contributes to the worsening of the work environment but also causes psychological stress, resulting in the worsening of the workers efficiency and of the living environment of the inhabitants around the power plant. Thus, to remedy these problems, the mechanical-excitation forces working on a power transformer were categorized in this study, and the mechanical-damage mechanism was identified through the vibration transfer paths acting on machines or structures. In addition, a study on active noise cancellation in a transformer using the FXLMS algorithm was conducted to develop a system that is capable of multiple-sound/channel control, which resulted in the active noise reduction effect when applied on the field.

  • The design of sheet metal working processes is based on the knowledge about the deformation mechanism and the influence of the process parameters. The typical geometric process parameters are the die geometry, the initial sheet thickness, the initial blank shape, and so on. The initial blank shape is of vital importance in the most sheet metal forming operations, especially in the deep drawing process, since the forming load and the strain distribution are significantly affected by the shape of an initial blank. The influence of the initial blank shape on a square cup deep drawing process is investigated by the numerical simulation and the experiment. The numerical simulation is carried out by a modified membrane finite element method which takes bending deformation into account. The numerical and experi-mental results show that the initial blank shape have strong influence on the forming load and the strain distribution. The numerical results are compared with the experimental results and other numerical results which are calculated with the membrane theory.

  • As industrial robots come into wider use, their control techniques are being developed along with enhancements in their performance. Specially, the dynamic performance of a 6-axis articulated industrial robot is greatly changed according to the position and orientation of the robot. This means that the PI parameter tuning of the robot and orientation of the robot. This mconsidering the dynamic characteristics of robot mechanism. In this study, $LabView^{(R)}$ programming was applied to automatically conduct parameter scheduling for various robot motions. Using forward and inverse kinematics of RS2, we can divide the working envelope of RS2 into 24 subspaces. We then conduct the gain-tuning according to each subspace. Finally, we program the actual gain scheduling, in which the optimized gain-tuning for each subspace to be passed should be changed for various robot motions using $LabView^{(R)}$.

  • The hydraulic cylinder seals are used not only to protect leakage of the working fluids but also to prevent incoming of foreign particles into the system. Chromium plating is generally applied to improve corrosion and wear resistance. It has been noticed that sealing surface damage occurs due to the hard foreign/wear particles contained in the hydraulic oil. In this study, a three-bodied sliding contact problem related with a PTFE seal, a spherical particle and chrome-plated steel substrate is modeled to investigate the relations to wear mechanism. Using the nonlinear finite element software, MARC/MENTAT, the deformed shapes, the von Mises and first principal stress distributions with plating thickness were compared. The sealing surface was mainly abraded by hard particles embedded in the seal. The plastic deformation of the steel substrate decreased with thicker plating. Hence it could be more effective to coat the sealing surface of a hydraulic cylinder with a hard material such as TiN, TiC and DLC.

  • Despite the social interest in eBook and its advantages, as a result of each industry using different document formats, it is difficult to exchange or share eBook contents. And this hindered the activation of eBook market. The U.S. and Japan have realized the importance of setting a standard for eBook document format and have established eBook standard with government agencies and related industries and in Korea, also, through Working Group for Standardization Committee of EBK, eBook industry standard, EBKS, was established. EBKS provides more advantages than HTML or PDF and the basic format is XML. The objective of EBKS is exact exchange of eBook content, reflection of characteristics of Korean publication environment, simplicity in creating, and convertibility with other standards. Meanwhile, in the DTD aspect, EBKS includes static document structure, extension mechanism, vertical writing, multi-column editing and reflection on the characteristics of Korean and proverbs. For exchanging style, content and style are separated using XSL-FO and XSL-FO is recommended for printing. Also, EBKS metadata is composed of do-metadata that does not use qualifier and x-metadata for extension to provide easiness in usage and ability to exchange and convert.

  • Residual stresses can be produced during manufacturing processes, eg. welding, machining and plastic working, and also in service. It can be superimposed with externally applied loads, so that unexpected deformations and failures of members will be occurred. Especially, the strength and the life of welded components are affected extensively by the residual stresses distributed around their weldments not only under static loads, but also fatigue loads. These residual stresses are not kept constant, but relaxed or redistributed during service. Under static loads the relaxation takes place when the residual stress superimposed with external stress exceeds locally the yield stress of material used. It is shown that under fatigue loads the residual stress is considerably relieved by the first or few cycle loading, and then gradually relaxed with increasing loading cycles. Although many investigations in this field have been carried out, the phenomenon and mechanism of the stress relaxation by mechanical means are still not clear, and there are few comprehensive models for predicting specific effects on the stress relaxation. In this study, the effects of applied static and fatigue loads on the residual stress relaxation were Investigated, and a model to predict quantitatively the residual stress relaxation was proposed.
