The objective of this study was to increase the utilizability of domestic thinning and small diameter wood as applying in pattern design which can be applied in interior decoration, wood craft and wood furniture, and in developing the designs of furniture and household items. Then we investigated the physical and mechanical characteristics of Acer mono wood by pressurization and heat treatment. Color change is clear, and the wood density is increased with increasing pressing rate. The compressive and bending strengths are decreased as heating time is increased after pressing. However, shrinkage is improved after pressing and heating.

The modern unique woodworking furniture has been made in earnest from 50 years ago. Some oil from nut such as soybean, walnut and perilla, which is usually used in our common life, has been used as finishing material for the unique woodworking furniture. Recently, woodworking studio business among the whole furniture industry has grown gradually and many woodworkers uses various kinds of imported wood finishing oil. Many woodworkers use the imported finishing oil in the old ways instead of understanding the characters of the various kind of oil and It causes some serious problems in furniture finishing process. Therefore, this study aims at taking theoretical approach in wood finishing oil and presenting correct usage in understanding the types and characters of oil. Resultingly the new method of oil finishing for wood is suggested and this suggestion is to guide woodworkers into the right usage of wood finishing oil.

Steaming has been used for bending wood for a long time, but the steam-bent wood is subject to spring-back and a relatively large radius of curvature. Liquid ammonia is known as an excellent wood plasticizer swelling both crystal and amorphous cellulose. Liquid ammonia technique for wood plasticization was developed and applied for bending alder and padauk pieces, which were used as parts of wooden furniture. The study confirmed that liquid ammonia bent wood can be used for various wood working design.

The bent wood technique has been used for making the bow, the musical instruments and the wagon wheel, The Winsor chair of England in 1730's was the first Lfurniture product by using this method. This method was spread out by Michael Thonet in Austria after the Industrial Evolution. Early making technique of Winsor chair was relatively easy, but Michael Thonet's bent chair was mass produced by the machine and launched the revolution in the industrial furniture. 20th-Century European furniture designers applied the method of layering and forming plywood to bent chairs, enhanced the function and conformability. The bent chair had a big impact on modern chair design. The bent chair has the formative beauty and convenience from the character of softness and colors of wooden materials and has been developed variously by furniture designers. This study is a new approach to use Dyed-Gathered Wood with various colors and patterns as a material of the bend wood. First, bent wood with the Dyed-Gathered Wood enhances a close texture of wooden material textures instead of coating the surface. Second, flexibility of the bent wood with the Dyed-Gathered Wood enables wood bending techniques. Lastly, the Dyed-Gathered Wood is made with relatively cheap woods, replaces expensive imported woods which cause product price rise. This method enables a material cost saving and a stable supply of material.

This study explored the development of wood furniture made of aged Castanea crenata Sieb. et Zucc, which has been largely planted in the southern area since 1960s and has hardly been used as furniture materials. First, the physical properties of the chestnut wood including specific gravity, stiffness, and shrinkage were compared with Zelkova serrata, Acer palmatum Thunb., Fagus crenata var. multinevis, Quercus, Tagayasan, Prunus serrulata var. spontanea, Juglans sinenis, Pteronrpus santalinus, Diospyros ebenum, and Fraxinus rhynchophylla, which have largely been used in manufacturing furniture. The chestnut wood had appropliate physical properties for wood furniture like other furniture woods. A piece of small table 50 cm in width, 50 cm in length and 60 cm in height by the chestnut tree was created for a current interior space. Since the diameter of the chestnut tree planted since 1960s is below around 30 cm, the top plate of the table had to be put together by an end-joint technique using a small strip. Finally, it is expected that this study will create a greate motivation for furniture designers, furniture studios and furniture companies in Korea to use the woods from the aged chestnut tree in developing furniture in the future.

This study was carried out to develop colored-wood furniture using veneer, small-round log and fiberboard to protect forest resources through the study of minimalism. which advocates the environmental issue inherent to contemporary furniture in the postmodern era. Based on the historical and theoretical context of minimalism closely related to the environmental protection, this study suggested the technical way how to produce the environment-friendly furniture with the least use of valuable and natural log. Finally, the color-wooden furniture was developed based on the asceticism, simplification, and repetition of the minimalism in a trend of contemporary furniture design. By soaking a veneer, Psuedotsuga menziesii and small-round log, Pinus densiflora into a very-diluted organic dye, the environment-friendly and colored-wood furniture could be created in harmony with contemporary interior space, which has showed various colors such as yellow, blue, red, and green with a pastel tone. The spring wood of the colored softwood was deeply stained, while the summer wood was lightly done. By utilizing such valueless used woods which have been little in furniture production, it was possible to decrease the consumption of precious raw log such as zelkova, ebony, rose, maple, cherry, mahogany and so on. Thus, it became obvious to be able for contemporary furniture designers to produce beautiful furniture with dyed fiberboard and small-round logs pregnant with minimalism.

Wood cutting utilizing CNC art in the field of furniture design industry, art, education are diverse. However, there is lack of data in the case for wood cutting, such as cutting conditions and wood cutting. So this article is to establish furniture design processing using CNC. The researchers investigated the processed products using CNC, the data of the web site and CNC relevant articles, then organized its impact on the furniture industry today. History and definition of CNC have studied for a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages. Then, the researchers analyzed the cases to investigate the wood cutting conditions, was applied to the fabrication of furniture domestic and foreign. CNC organized systematically design information through the computer So, it allowed to reduce the repetitive behavior that has to work hand in the furniture manufacture existing. CNC has made it possible to design a fine complex in furniture design industry. So it became possible to make a new representation and production of various forms. Material about CNC are mostly for milling machine and shelves for metal processing. So, the researchers investigated and precautions general content of wood cutting. The enhanced understanding to investigate an example that is applied outside the country, is used to analyze the expression various techniques CNC. It is difficult to obtain accurate data processing, it has various characteristics in the same timber, Future research is about analyzing type applications and CNC machining range at the time of processing the various wood.

This is the study about the New Formation Developement, the Changeable Table Design with Units that made of Wasted Wood to use restricted material rationally and to improve the space efficiency in the Table Design. We made some changeable table design with units that made of laminated wood wasted. And we found out the following formative characteristic and physical merits through this study. First, the space efficiency can be improve technically through the unit combination and organic transfomation of the specific form and a new method by laminated wood make the personal originality and the structral stability be built up. Second, there are some merits, moveable convenience and variable layout by the combination or transformation or personal fondness so that economical efficiency and variable of design can be improved. Third, we can remove original faults inside wood like a knot or not-uniform of wood organ when we laminate wood so that we use proper units that have original beauty of wood and can represent mild mood of furniture wholly. Fourth, much more strengthen tensile strength by the reciprocal action among the units that be made of laminated wood reduces wood's metamorphosis like bending or twisting so that the uniformity of wood can be gain and furniture's metamorphosis can be reduced. According to changes of nature environment, the difficulty of supply and demand for wood may be happen. According to changes of life style these days, supply and demand for environment friendly material, processing technique and developement of design to improve the efficiency of using space must be very important factor in morden furniture design. So we propose changeable furniture design by using new environment friendly meterial and processing method from this study.

This study intended to explore English of furniture tenn in relation to the joints and moldings in traditional Korean wood furniture, a base of Korean wood furniture, for the development of Korea furniture in the future. The joints such as butt joint, rabbeted joint, mitered joint, mortise-and-tenon joint, fist joint, and finger joint, and the moldings such as a piece of thread molding, half-circle molding, cove molding, flat molding, and triangle molding were analyzed between English and Korean language. The results were only basic terms which must be researched and unified in the traditional Korean furniture. Therefore, the terms in relation to the types, the details, the hardware, and so on, will have to be studied in terms of the meaning originated from the traditional craftsmen.
