This study explored the theoretical context of postmodern aesthetics in experiencing art/craft/handmade/studio furniture for 'wood culture experience class' or 'wood love experience class', which has been recently carried out by the Korea Forest Service and is apt to focus on making simple wood work just involved in the practical part. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principal methodology was used to achieve the theoretical context in the experience programs. I developed the lesson for an aesthetics of art and everyday life with wood furniture which expresses the metaphorical aesthetics appeared as New Design furniture in postmodernism. As statement of objective in the lesson, I explored that students in elementary schools personally understand and define the postmodern aesthetics of New Design furniture as metaphor. As a result, the students will be able to define and identify New Design furniture as metaphor in their lives.

Through this study, I explored a creation of the postmodern furniture aesthetics through the transformation by student's interpretation in experiencing the art/craft/handmade/studio furniture aesthetics in postmodernism theoretically for 'wood culture experience class' or 'wood love experience class' by the Korea Forest Service because the class tends to focus on making simple wood works involved just in the practical part. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principal methodology was used to achieve the theoretical context in the experience programs. Following the lesson one on defining the postmodern aesthetics in New Design furniture as metaphor and the lesson two on interpreting an aesthetics of art and everyday life with the wood furniture which expresses the metaphorical and symbolical aesthetics appeared as New Design furniture in postmodernism in the previous papers, I developed lesson three on creating an object using eco-friendly materials like wood in transforming an aesthetics of postmodern furniture as the final stage of the study. Therefore, the students will be able to create a piece of eco-friendly wood furniture for our environment as metaphor transformed by his/her perspective regarding a piece of selected New Design furniture.

The study has been carried to evaluate the wood color, a typical element of visual and decorative effect, for seven major domestic softwoods using L*a*b* and chrominance ($\Delta$E*ab). The result showed that the values of whiteness, redness, and yellowness were positive at both sapwood and heartwood and there were no wood having a small chrominance difference ranged 0~0.5. There was also no wood having a chrominance difference ranging 0.5~3.0. Ginkgo biloba, Pinus koraiensis, and Larix kaempferi wood showed a little different chrominance, Taxus cuspidata, Pinus densiflora for. erecta, and Pinus densiflora wood substantial different chrominance, Juniperus chinensis wood largest different chrominance. It is concluded that the study results could be utilized as a data base in areas of wood craft and furniture and could open a way to substitute foreign imported woods.

This study aimed to examine the theoretical consideration and concept of hybrid that could be applicable to wood product design, to analyze design trend according to the morphological transformation by means of combination of hybrid material and function, to understand the correlation between type of wood product and materials and to apply it to the domestic and overseas hybrid concept of wood product design study. A study of assembling output by empirical experiment to embed natural resources into acrylic resin in order to develop wood products was carried out. And an wood product was suggested that satisfied lighting and hanger function through a new wood product design development combined with hanger function and lighting function. Through such process, a new design paradigm was suggested to cope with the periodic trend and to induce mass production of designed product. Thus, this study set a new guideline for activating wood product design and attempted to meet the social demand of encouraging new value creation.

The objective of this study was to increase the utilizability of domestic thinning and small diameter wood as applying in pattern design which can be applied in interior decoration, wood craft and wood furniture, and in developing the designs of furniture and household items. Then we investigated the physical and mechanical characteristics of Acer mono wood by pressurization and heat treatment. Color change is clear, and the wood density is increased with increasing pressing rate. The compressive and bending strengths are decreased as heating time is increased after pressing. However, shrinkage is improved after pressing and heating.

This study was investigated to sensible characteristic and physical characteristic to estimate value of the craft for Pinus densiflora and Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki wood. The sensual characteristics of wood are evaluated by wood figure, wood grain, odor, and the physical characteristics by weathering, abrasion, surface roughness and hardness. The wood figure of these species were observed at flat grain in the radial section and edge grain in the tangential section. Also, burl's figure was observed in Burl of Pinus densiflora wood. Pinus densiflora for. erecta Uyeki wood had volatile aroma compounds such as Camphene, Thymyl ether, ${\alpha}$-Longipinene, etc. Pinus densiflora wood had volatile aroma compounds such as ${\alpha}$-Longipinene, (+)-Cedrol, etc. The moisture soption, abrasion, hardness and roughness were very different between the two species.

This study explored the background of contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture, which newly expresses the aesthetics of communication in the postmodern era. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principle methodology was used to explore the background of the decorative and meaningful contemporary furniture in postmodernism. Thereby, the postmodern concepts of Charles Jencks, Robert Venturi, and Michael Graves were analyzed in terms of their postmodern architecture and furniture. As initiatives of postmodern architecture and furniture, Jencks, Venturi, and Graves explored the pluralism and eclecticism, the decoration, the semantics, and the materials reestablished from the traditions of craft. As a result, their furniture was expressed by various wood and color; the furniture was beautiful, decorative, pluralistic, and eclectic for communicating symbol, metaphor, narrative, and/or humor with people; the furniture has influenced the communicative elements on the contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture design, which shows the blurring of fine arts and craft distinctions.

In this study, the figure of domestic hardwood was observed using the naked eye and the possibility of substituting imported wood with domestic one in the making woodcraft or furniture was investigated. It was known from the investigation on 8 different hardwoods that there were various figures such as cloud-shaped figure, blister figure, crotch figure, bird's eye figure, etc. in Zelkova serrata wood and the beautiful pigment figure in Diospyros Kaki wood. There were the unusual figures such as wavy grain figure, fiddle back figure, etc. in Cedrela sinensis wood and was clear ray-fleck figure in Quercus variabilis wood. There were also various figures such as wavy grain figure, blister figure, pigment figure, etc. in Sophra japonica, Tilia amurensis, Castanea crenata, Kalopanax septemlobus wood, etc. It is thus that distinguished figures appeared in each kind of wood can be used for craft, sculpture, furniture, and interior material. These kinds of figures can also be used for instrument, toy, stationery, life article material and souvenir, etc. And it can be expected that they will replace the imported wood has been mainly used to make the woodcraft or furniture until now.
