  • The objective of this study is to investigate the fit preference tendency for ready-to-wears(jackets, skirts and slacks) of adult women and to find out the respective differences by the age range and the obesity level. The study method was the questionnaire survey with the subjects of 295 women of 20 up to 59 years of age. The questionnaire is composed of fit preference tendency, physical measurements, age, and occupation. For the data analysis, SPSS 18.0 program was used, and descriptive statistics, Crosstabs, ANOVA, Duncan's test, t-test and multiple regression were conducted. The findings were as follows. 1. Regarding the fit preferred for each part of jackets, skirts, and slacks, among ready-to-wears, the 'thing with some extra width' in every part was most favored, followed by the 'thing fitting perfectly.' 2. The differences were found in the fit preference tendency by the age of adult women. The fit preference tendency was higher among those in their 20's than among those of the other age range. 3. The differences were also found in the fit preference tendency by the obesity level of adult women. The fit preference tendency was high in the order of the emaciation, normalcy, and obesity types. 4. For all of three items, age and body type or body type influenced the preference by the fit level. As the age was higher and the body type was fatter, those items with some flexibility were preferred.

  • The heightened consumers' interest in health and well-being gave rise to the needs for performance infants' wear, which are made with environmentally-friendly and healthy functional materials. This study intends to compare purchasers and non-purchasers of performance infants' wear in terms of their shopping behavior, shopper and infants' characteristics, and reasons for purchasing or not purchasing performance infants' wear. A total of 241 questionnaires were collected from women with infants less than 4 years old, who are living in the Seoul metropolitan area. Using SPSS 10.0, chi-square, paired t-test, and descriptive statistics were calculated to analyze the data. The results of the study were as follows: First, the purchasers of performance infants' wear shopped more often at department stores and were more likely to buy comparatively high-price products than non-purchasers. Second, for performance infants' wear, non-purchasers considered laundry/care methods and fiber contents more, while purchasers considered colors, design, price, and performance of the products less than for infants' wear in general. Third, in terms of demographic characteristics, significant differences were found for the number of children and the child's birth order. Fourth, the primary reason for buying performance infants' wear was 'health'. The primary reason for not buying was 'too high price' and 'lack of information'. The 'high price compared to its performance' and 'lack of color choice' were among the purchasers complaints about performance infants' wear.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop golf wear textile design, produce simulation and samples, and create original designs using geometric patterns. Significance: If modern people's trend to pursue well-being is be associated with healthy and active lifestyle and the design which combines a sport sense into artistic image appears in golf wear, it is a very significant effort to settle the role of sport as a mega trend. Contents: This study examined the general concept of geometric patterns and the situation and characteristics of women's golf wear. Finally, the design and simulation of gold wear textile were proposed. Study Instruments: For theoretical research, articles, books, literatures, and Internet materials published at home and abroad were reviewed and collected. For empirical research, a dot, a stripe(a line), a square, and an oval were selected and simulation was tested visually after the development of textile designs. Finally it was directly produced and golf wear design was developed. Photoshop CS 3 and Wacom intuos 3 were used as a general-purpose program and hardware respectively. DTP printing was used for sample work. Based on research results, geometric patterns range broadly and diversely from prehistoric remains and relics to contemporary art, design, architecture, and fashion. It is a unique formative element with value and attraction as the infinite object of inquiry beyond an area and the times. The combination of geometric patterns with art touch could complement the rigidity of design. It contributed to the perception of important role of art in the design area, namely, the importance of design containing artistry.

  • The purpose of this study was for analyzing the fashion design imaged by Kimono in the 1990s. Through the work, what is the way to create the non-western fashion design can be found. For this purpose, I took my design data from fashion magazines in the 1990s, and referred to the literal materials about history of western costume and Kimono. The result were as follows ; Kimono in Japanese denotes thing to wear. Ki is derived from the verb kiru, to wear, and mono, thing. However, in the western world the term came to mean the T-shaped outer garment formerly known in Japan as the kosode. It is consists of sleeve(sode), wide sash(obi), hemline(suso), collar(eri), and material. There were many complex reasons for its diversity in the west, and for its evolution during the past one hundred years from the peignoir including exoticism, eroticism, women's liberation to the high fashion imaged by folklore and avant-garde. Therefore the fashion design imaged by Kimono was divided into feminine style, natural & folklore style, modern & avant-garde style.

  • This study was initiated to investigate (1) whether consumers preferred a specific garment size labeling system and (2) whether consumer's demographic characteristics, clothing behavior, and body size affect their preference of size labeling systems. The survey of consumer's preferences for five size labeling systems included 443 women with 20 to 64 years of age. The result of the survey showed that the subjects' preferences of five size labeling sysems were different significantly. Subjects strongly preferred the old system rather than the revised systems. The subjects least preferred the system with pictogram(system D) and the system with description of the measuring methods of te control dimensions (system E). The subjects/ preference for various garment size labeling systems was different depending on their resident area, educational level, and body size. The garment size labeling system with more information on body measurements (system C) was preferred by the subjects living in the metro city area or subjects having difficulties on purchasing ready-to-wear garments giving reasonable fit. The simplest size labeling system (system A) was strongly preferred by the subjects of low educational level, or the subjects living in the small city.

  • This study is to find out the changes and features of male consumers' life style and purchase tendency according to the change of Korean fashion market, and based on which to suggest the design for the 20s men as well as a proper distribution channel for it. Documentary research and investigation were done together for the study. By reviewing documents focused on previous studies and declaring the change of men's fashion shopping tendencies and the following changes and features of their fashion sense and styles a conceptional frame for a design suggestion was presented. Ways to investigate were men's wear collection research, Q-technique. First of all, they tend to boldly reduce unnecessary purchases and do not hesitate to focus on the wanted item, expanding the trend of 'value purchase.' Secondly, men's wear use various design elements with feminine images, while the materials, colors and design expressive techniques that have been exclusively used for women's wear, began to be applied to men's one, turning them into gentle styles with womanhood is stressed. Thirdly, Korean distribution channel is rapidly diversified from departments to new-concept ones such as multi-brand stores. Especially, displaying and selling various optional products, multi-brand stores lead such diversification of fashion distribution channel. Fourthly, features of the drapery types favored by the 20s men are that they like no-chromed dark or blackish colors with fixed structure and partially-applied drapery on the clothes. Fifthly, it turns out that men in their 20s set a premium on design and price while they buy clothes. In addition to that, they buy clothes mainly during discount period and displayed much bigger satisfaction for the purchase on discounted price that those on normal price.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop men's garment sizing system, based on the anthropometric measurements called 'SizeKorea', which was surveyed between 2003 and 2004. The number of the survey subjects was 3,215 of males, who were from 18 to 69 years old. In the results, body types were assorted by drops, consisting of 4 upper body types and 2 lower body types. Height, chest, waist and hip were selected as the key dimensions of sizing system and the intervals of them were decided on statistical analysis of key dimensions, size intervals of ready-to wear clothes and sizing systems of other countries. In the results, older group or shorter height group had less differences between chest and waist as well as between waist and hip, but younger group and taller group had more differences. The size intervals for fitted jacket and coat were 3cm in chest and waist, while the intervals for fitted pants were 2cm in waist and hip. The intervals for not-fitted clothes were 5cm in chest, waist and hip, which 5 cm interval of height were applied, in all cases.
