The Effects of Chest Vibration Prior to Endotracheal Suctioning on Oxygen Saturation, Heart Rate and Lung Secretions in Premature Infants (미숙아의 기관지흡인 전 흉곽진동 간호중재가 산소포화도, 심박동수와 기도분비물의 양에 미치는 영향)

  • Prematurity is the main cause for respiratory disorders in neonates. The goal in respiratory management is to maintain respiration with adequate oxygenation. Chest vibration(CV) prior to on dotracheal suctioning(ETS) has been arbitrarily applied to ventilated premature infants without the scientific evaluation of its safety and efficacy. A repeated measure within subjects experimental study was conducted to investigate the effects of CV prior to 875 on oxygenation and lung secretions in twenty-one ventilated premature infants. The independent variable was the type of research protocol, the control type (275 without C.V) and t he intervention(ETS with CV). The dependent variables were oxygen saturation(SpO₂), heart rate (HR), measured by pulse oximeter, and the amount of lung secretions measured in gram. The results showed there was no difference in SpO₂ responses regardless CV employed before ETS. But there was a significant difference in HR responses between the control and the intervention, even without clinical significance. There was a significant difference in the amount of lung secretions retrieved during ETS with CV, compared to ETS without CV. This study suggested the safety of CV by demonstrating no clinically significant changes in SpO₂ and HR in premature infants. The efficacy of CV could be supported by the increases in the amount of sputum during ETS with CV compared to ETS without CV in premature infants.

  • In this paper, we investigate visible light stress instability in radio frequency (RF) sputtered a-IGZO thin film transistors (TFTs). The oxygen flow rate differs during deposition to control the concentration of oxygen vacancies, which is confirmed via RT PL. A negative shift is observed in the threshold voltage ($V_{TH}$) under illumination with/without the gate bias, and the amount of shift in $V_{TH}$ is proportional to the concentration of oxygen vacancies. This can be explained to be consistent with the ionization oxygen vacancy model where the instability in $V_{TH}$ under illumination is caused by the increase in the channel conductivity by electrons that are photo-generated from oxygen vacancies, and it is maintained after the illumination is removed due to the negative-U center properties.

  • The oxygen permeation characteristics of BOPP, OPP and CPP membranes were studied against various thicknesses and temperatures. The experimental results showed that the present method of using electrochemical oxygen sensor was a convenient method for measurement of membrane permeability of oxygen and its activation energy, while the thickness dependency on permeability has an order of BOPP > CPP > OPP. And the activation energy of oxygen permeability showed different values for each membrane ranging from 13.1 kJ/mol to 28.5 kJ/mol, without depending on membrane thickness, presumably due to its depending upon membrane material itself.

  • Oxygen consumption by Clonorchis sinensis (C.S.) was observed in a medium of valuable pH of KRP, lack of certain electrolytes of KRP and of glucose, acetic acid or propionic acid was added to KRP. The results were as follows. 1. In a different solutions, KRP with or without $0.4%-glucose$, $0.9%-saline$ solution, the variation of oxygen consumption by C.S. was not significant. 2. Oxygen consumption by C.S. was inhibited by the solution of KCI, $CaCl_2$, or $MgSO_4$ in a 0.9% solution of saline. 3. Under the acidity, oxygen consumption was enhanced but under the alkality, it was inhibited. 4. Oxygen consumption by C.S. was inhibited by acetic acid or propionic acid in KRP solution. 5. C.S. keeping in KRP solution for a long duration, oxygen cosumption was reduced in the course of time.

  • Since the current tendencies show us the increasing number of cerebral palsy children and the standard longevity, we need to find out more research about the following various problems. Therefore I have tried to figure out the difference of oxygen saturation and heart rate between before ambulation and after. Objects chosen are 17 C.P children on the process of treatment those who were able to walk and 8 normal children in Ah-San hospital, Gang-Nung. They haven't had either any operation or suffered heart disease and I measured their oxygen saturation and heart rate by using pulse-oximeter and are analyzed by SPSS (10.07 version). Results are the followings; 1. There was no difference of oxygen saturation and heart rate between pre-ambulation and post-ambulation of normal and spastic hemiplegia children. 2. There showed the significant statistic difference of oxygen saturation, heart rate between pre-ambulates and post-ambulation of normal and spastic diplegia(p<.05). 3. There was no difference of oxygen saturation, heart rate in C.P between(p>.05), but shows the significant statistic difference in heart rate(p<.05). As I compared the oxygen saturation and heart rate of spastic and normal children on between pre-ambulation and post-ambulation, theres is significant statistic difference on both items (p<.05). However there was no difference of oxygen saturation among hemiplegia, normal and diplegia children while the pulse rate showed the significant difference(p<.05). According to this clinical research, CP children's oxygen saturation and heart rate had no change between pre and post compared to normal children. But there was difference in diplegia. This is why we need to invest time to study these kinds of research about various analysis and comparison of oxygen saturation and heart rate, and furthermore making use of pulse-oxymetry in physical therapy room for the children involved would be beneficial to calculate in accuracy without any discomfort for the patient as well.

Effects of Mg Suppressor Layer on the InZnSnO Thin-Film Transistors

  • We investigate the effects of magnesium (Mg) suppressor layer on the electrical performances and stabilities of amorphous indium-zinc-tin-oxide (a-ITZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs). Compared to the ITZO TFT without a Mg suppressor layer, the ITZO:Mg TFT exhibits slightly smaller field-effect mobility and much reduced subthreshold slope. The ITZO:Mg TFT shows improved electrical stabilities compared to the ITZO TFT under both positive-bias and negative-bias-illumination stresses. From the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy O1s spectra with fitted curves for ITZO and ITZO:Mg films, we observe that Mg doping contributes to an enhancement of the oxygen bond without oxygen vacancy and a reduction of the oxygen bonds with oxygen vacancies. This result shows that the Mg can be an effective suppressor in a-ITZO TFTs.

Membrane Diffuser Coupled Bioreactor for Methanotrophic Denitrification under Non-aerated Condition: Suggestion as a Post-denitrification Option

  • Methanotrophic denitrification under a non-aerated condition (without external supply of oxygen or air) was investigated in a bioreactor coupled with a membrane diffuser. Batch experiment demonstrated that both methane consumption and nitrogen production rates were not high in the absence of oxygen, but most of the nitrate was reduced into $N_2$ with 88% recovery efficiency. The methane utilized for nitrate reduction was determined at 1.63 mmol $CH_4$/mmol $NO_3{^-}$-N, which was 2.6 times higher than the theoretical value. In spite of no oxygen supply, methanotrophic denitrification was well performed in the bioreactor, due to enhanced mass transfer of the methane by the membrane diffuser and utilization of oxygen remaining in the influent. The denitrification efficiency and specific denitrification rate were 47% and 1.69 mg $NO_3{^-}-N/g\;VSS{\cdot}hr$, respectively, which were slightly lower than for methanotrophic denitrification under an aerobic condition. The average concentration of total organic carbon in the effluent was as low as 2.45 mg/L, which indicates that it can be applicable as a post-denitrification method for the reclamation of secondary wastewater effluent. The dominant fatty acid methyl ester of mixed culture in the bioreactor was $C_{16:1{\omega}7c}$ and $C_{18:1{\omega}7c}$, which was predominantly found in type I and II methanotrophs, respectively. This study presents the potential of methanotrophic denitrification without externally excess oxygen supply as a post-denitrification option for various water treatment or reclamation.

  • The combustion characteristics of 0.03MW turbulent methane/oxygen diffusion flames have been investigated to give basic informations for designing industrial oxyfuel combustors. NOx reduction has become one of the most determining factors in the combustor design since 3-5% nitrogen is intrinsically included from the current oxygen producing processes. Flame lengths and NOx concentrations were measured by varying flow velocities with and without installing quarls. Flame stabilities are significantly enhanced by oxyfuel combustion in contrast to air-fuel combustion. Flame length decreases with increasing fuel or oxygen velocity because of the enhancement of turbulent mixing. NOx concentration was reduced with increasing flo velocities. This can be attributed to the entrainment of inert product gases into flame decreasing flame temperature. The installation of quarl on the burners rather increased NOx concentration since the quarl blocked the entrainment above the nozzles.

  • Smoke evolved from burning cellulose insulation treated with boric acid-borax-alum as combustion retardants has been studied using a light absorption method. It has been shown that the quantity of smoke are decreased with the increase of oxygen concentration. Applied fire retardants did not increase smoke generation from investigated cellulose insulation in range of themal degradation without flaming. These same fire retardants increased from in the range of flaming combustion. The results of this work have been analysed using imperical equation, which correlated the smoke density at oxygen content of combustion transition. The Effects of Oxygen Plasma and Cross-link Process on Quantum-dot Light Emitting Diodes

  • Red color light emitting diodes (LEDs) were fabricated using CdSe/CdZnS quantum dots (QDs). During the device fabrication process, oxygen plasma treatment on the ITO surface was performed to improve the interfacial contact between ITO anode and the hole injection layer. CdSe/CdZnS quantum dots were cross-linked to remove their surrounded organic surfactants. The device shows red emission at 622 nm, which is consistent with the dimension of the QDs (band gap=1.99 eV). The luminance shows 6026% improvement compared with that of LEDs fabricated without oxygen plasma treatment and quantum dots cross-linking process. This approach would be useful for the fabrication of high-performance QLEDs with ITO electrode and PEDOT:PSS hole injection layers.
