  • We propose a new resource management scheme, Distributed Channel Allocation Protocol (DCAP), for multimedia Ad Hoc Wireless LANs (AWLANS). This scheme implements a Qualify-of-Service (QoS) providing distributed resource management on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing-Code Division Multiple Access (OFDM-CDMA) channel architecture. According to the performance evaluation results for MPEG traffic sources, DCAP can be a good choice of resource management scheme for AWLANs supporting multimedia services on the Broadband Wireless Access(BWA)-type physical layer.

  • The call admission control algorithm of hybrid scheme is proposed to enhance the QoS(quality of service) of attempted multimedia calls. In the initial stage of 3rd generation multimedia services networks, the major limitations include the small sefyice coverage and the limited radio link capacity. Because the initial massive deployment of network elements such as base stations, base station controllers, and mobile switching centers is restricted to populated areas and the other areas should be covered with the fewer network elements, the radio channel resources are hmited and coverage network is supposed to be established. Therefore the QoS of multimedia services is expected to be severely degraded when tentative traffic hot spot occurs frequently. Thus, the blocking probability of attempted calls mcreases when relatively large number of users try to place multimedia calls in a hot spot area of the wireless networks. In this situation, the proposed hybrid scheme can mitigate the degradation of the QoS of multimedia services by using the available radio channels of the neighboring cells.

  • The multimedia ad hoc wireless network is quite an attractive issue since it offers a flexible solution to enable delivery of multimedia services to mobile end users without fixed backbone networks. However, with the unique design challenges of ad hoc wireless networks, it is a non-trivial issue to provide bounded delay guarantee, with fair share of resources. In this paper, we implemented the delay guaranteed fair queueing (DGFQ) scheme distributively. Through the results of performance evaluation, we can conclude that DGFQ also performs well to control bounded delay in multimedia ad hoc wireless networks.

  • In this paper, we propose a private multimedia caching scheme based on wireless local area network (WLAN) to improve the quality of service for high capacity and high quality multimedia streaming services which are recently increasing and to reduce the traffic load of core networks. The proposed caching scheme stores multimedia in the storage device mounted on WLAN APs and provides streaming services on its own without Internet connection in accordance with the request from clients. We have implemented a test network based on real commercial networks and measured the performance of the proposed caching scheme in terms of frames per second (FPS) and buffering time. According to the performance measurement results, the proposed caching scheme can reduce the average buffering time by 73.3% compared to the conventional streaming scheme. In addition, the proposed caching scheme can also improve the average FPS by 71.3% compared to the conventional streaming scheme.

  • Advances in wireless network are enabling the development of ubiquitous multimedia services. These multimedia services need efficient platforms to comply with the requirements of mobile computing. We introduce an adaptive service platform based on mobile agent and grid systems while specifying the challenges of ubiquitous multimedia services and focusing on frequent disconnections and scarce resources. We applied our platform to framework RtoA (Ready-to-Attend) which supports mobile users to access compute-intensive multimedia service, specifically, mobile education and video conferencing. RtoA includes hand-off, speaker and listener service which enable people to attend a conference or a class with satisfying quality of multimedia service. ns-2 based simulation verifies that our scheme is an efficient way to reduce energy consumption of mobile devices and to improve the response time of mobile applications.

  • Multimedia applications over wireless networks have been evolving to augmented reality or virtual reality services. However, a rich data size compared to conventional multimedia services causes bandwidth bottlenecks over wireless networks, which is one of the main reasons why those applications are not used widely. To overcome this limitation, bandwidth aggregation techniques, which exploit a multi-path transmission, have been considered to maximize link utilization. Currently, most of the conventional researches have been focusing on the user end problems to improve the quality of service (QoS) through optimal load distribution. In this paper, we address the joint pricing and load distribution problem for multi-homing in heterogeneous wireless access networks (ANs), considering the interests of both the users and the service providers. Specifically, we consider profit from resource allocation and cost of power consumption expenditure for operation as an utility of each service provider. Here, users decide how much to request the resource and how to split the resource over heterogeneous wireless ANs to minimize their cost while supporting the required QoS. Then, service providers compete with each other by setting the price to maximize their utilities over user reactions. We study the behaviors of users and service providers by analyzing their hierarchical decision-making process as a multileader-, multifollower Stackelberg game. We show that both the user and service provider strategies are closed form solutions. Finally, we discuss how the proposed scheme is well converged to equilibrium points.

  • Advances in mobile communication and digital video technology enable to commercialize converged multimedia services such as VoD in the mobile networks. Media convergence is evolving into U-Cloud and mobile IP-TV services constituted by high-speed mobile multimedia networks and integrated personal devices. This paper proposes a resource allocation scheme to guarantee QoS of converged mobile multimedia services, and simultaneously maximize legacy services in heterogeneous wireless networks. Performances are analyzed by the simulation.

  • In the near future it is foreseen that a genuine multimedia service over the WiMAX system is provided in a worldwide manner by exploiting the QoS technologies introduced in the wireless and wired broadband network. In this work we propose a pricing scheme for the multimedia service over the generic WiMAX system that supports a full QoS functionality. We assume real-time services such as the voice and video as well as the nonreal-time service such as the conventional high-speed data, and we propose a pricing and charging scheme for those services by investigating the inherent characteristics of those services and the multiple-class of QoS-service provided to them. After that we propose a method to compute expected revenue that is obtained from the WiMAX system by using an analytic method to estimate the usage of the bandwidth resources for the different class of services. Via numerical experiment, we verify the implication of the work.

  • The number of mobile devices roaming into a ubiquitous city (u-city) continues to rise as wireless systems have been widely deployed. The number of mobile devices also varies with time, and they tend to frequently change their locations. In addition, the available wireless access networks may belong to different domains, administrations, management, and internet service providers (ISPs). A fusion of overlapping heterogeneous wireless access networks (e.g., WiMax, Wi-Fi, LTE, etc.) serves the u-city in order to reach different coverage. In this context, technical challenges arise in mobility management for heterogeneous networks to realize their potential coverage and capacity benefits. This paper deals with the analysis of a decentralized mobility management support for u-City wireless network infrastructure. This scheme takes advantage of the features of the fully-distributed model of networked-based mobility management protocol to alleviate and realize the ubiquitous requirements of a u-City.

  • Wireless Internet has to offer various types of services as much as wired network does in the scope of Internet business. The browser for simple data service using SMS in the early wireless internet cannot serve various multimedia contents. In this paper, We design and implement a Java browser that runs Java program, by adding JVM(Java Virtual Machine) into the web browser for mobile terminals. The Java browser for mobile terminals dynamically loads various Java program you want. This browser makes it possible to be multipurpose mobile terminals for E-Commerce, E-Wallet, Game Device.
