  • This paper discusses the design of bio-implanted ultra-low-power MICS RF transceivers for wireless sensor networks. The 400 MHz MICS standard was considered for the implementation of the WBAN wireless sensor system, indirectly minimizing radio propagation losses in the human body and the inference with surrounding networks. This paper includes link budget, various transmission and reception architectures for a system design and ultra-low power transceiver circuit techniques for the implementation of RF transceivers that meet MICS standards.

  • An increasing number of researches and developments for personal or professional service robots are attracting a lot of attention and interest industrially and academically during the past decade. Furthermore, the development of intelligent robots is intensively fostered as strategic industry. Until now, most of practical and commercial service robots are worked by remotely operated controller. The most important technical issue of remote control is a wireless communication, especially in the indoor and unstructured environments where communication infrastructures might be destroyed by various disasters. Therefore we propose a multi-robot following navigation method for securing the valid communication distance extension of the remote control based on WPAN(Wireless Personal Area Networks). The concept and implementation of following navigation are introduced and the performance verification is performed through real navigation experiments in real or test-bed environments.

  • Wireless communication is one of most active areas in modern communication researches, QoS (Quality of Service) assurance is very important for wireless communication systems design, especially for applications such as streaming video etc., which requires strict QoS assurance. The modern wireless networks multi-layer protocol stack structure results in QoS metrics layered and acting in cascade and QoS metrics vertical mapping between protocol layers. Based on virtual buffer between protocol layers and queuing technology, a unified layered QoS mapping framework is proposed in this paper, in which we first propose virtual queue concept, give a novelty united neighboring protocol layers QoS metric mapping framework, and analysis method based on dicerete-time Markov chain, and numerical results show that our proposed framework represents a significant improvement over previous model.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the determinants of actual demand for wireless broadband (WiBro) services in Korea. To this end, this study identifies conceptual definitions of diverse latent variables and determines the significance of the causal relationship between independent and dependent variables. It then presents the nomadic user concept by testing the moderator effect. This study also proposes a revised Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model, which is an appropriate model for wireless communication services and users' attributes. Prior research has concentrated exclusively on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) based on future potential users. Compared to previous studies, the current research model and analysis results are useful in not only academic but also industry contexts.

  • This work presents an ultra-wideband conformal meandered loop antenna for wireless capsule endoscopy applications. The proposed antenna surrounds the outer wall of a capsule, so that the inner space can be used by a battery and other electrical and optical components. Fabricated on a flexible substrate, the antenna has a diameter of 10 mm and a height of 14 mm when wrapped around a cylindrical capsule. The antenna achieves an ultra-wide impedance bandwidth of 200 MHz-2.05 GHz (164% of the fractional bandwidth), which provides sufficient coverage for the medical implant communication service, MedRadio, and industrial-scientific-medical (ISM) bands. This antenna also ensures robustness to the detuning effect, which could be caused by the inner components of the capsule and the outer environment variations. The omnidirectional radiation pattern of the antenna is verified by simulations and measurements, and its maximum gain is -31.5 dBi. The fabricated antenna is successfully tested in an over-the-air wireless communication link, proving that the antenna can be instrumental in wireless capsule endoscopy applications.

  • As smart home network services such as home CCTV, outdoor control of home appliances, home security and disaster prevention services become popular, there appear various affiliated products including smart home gateway and smart speaker. Since those services are generally developed on the vendors' individual hardware and software platforms, it is not much expected for them to interwork well among different architecture and communication methods. In this paper, we propose a new home network service system running on an open source platform to address such issues. We implemented a home network system using OpenWRT-based wireless router(or access point) and Zigbee communication technology. In the proposed system, a wireless router replaces a commercial home gateway and small control units implemented with Arduino control electronic devices and sensors in home. Several service scenarios are also implemented to verify the operability of the proposed system.

  • Nowadays as video services grow rapidly, it is important for the service providers to provide customized services. Video ranking plays a key role for the service providers to attract the subscribers. In this paper we propose a weekly video ranking mechanism based on the quantified user engagement. The traditional QoE ranking mechanism is relatively subjective and usually is accomplished by grading, while QoS is relatively objective and is accomplished by analyzing the quality metrics. The goal of this paper is to establish a ranking mechanism which combines the both advantages of QoS and QoE according to the third-party data collection platform. We use data mining method to classify and analyze the collected data. In order to apply into the actual situation, we first group the videos and then use the regression tree and the decision tree (CART) to narrow down the number of them to a reasonable scale. After that we introduce the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model and use Elo rating system to improve the fairness of our system. Questionnaire results verify that the proposed solution not only simplifies the computation but also increases the credibility of the system.

  • As the wireless network technologies and the capability of the mobile terminals are evolving, advanced peer to peer applications for mobile users are attracting interests. In this paper, we propose the mobile P2P communication platform(MPCP) which provides transparency to the wireless network technologies and solutions to the limited resources of the mobile terminals. MPCP classifies the connection into two levels: a virtual channel and a session. A virtual channel is the network layer connection between the terminals whereas a session is the application layer connection. MPCP classifies the sessions into four types and applies different scheduling priority and data processing policies such as segmentation and reassembly. It selects proper wireless network technologies depending on the distance between the communication endpoints. To acquire dynamically changed access address, we harness the Session Initiation Protocol. We implemented MPCP on embedded Linux simulator and utilized the implementation in mobile P2P service development. For the quantitative analysis, we compared the performance of MPCP with that of ftp. Regardless of the number of simultaneous sessions, MPCP maintains the relative performance.

  • The idea of the Internet of Things as a platform on the Smart Campus has become increasingly popular. It requires an infrastructure consisting of communication networks, sensor nodes and gateways to connect to the Internet. Each sensor node is responsible for gathering data from the environment. This document outlines a network of wireless sensors on the Internet for the application of Smart Campus monitoring. Wireless sensor network Monitoring have become a complete solution to using a low power implementation and integrated systems. The numerous restrictions however result from the low communication range, the limited computing power, the lack of availability of the network protocol, the lack of programming security and the security failures in the areas of confidentiality, integrity and availability. A new security technique and its functionality for WSNM nodes developed. Development in the research of a secure network and suggestions for avoiding denial of service (DOS) and complexity attacks. These systems if properly implemented can provide an energy efficiency mechanism through pre-allocation and a new key from key management models with a secure routine algorithm.
