  • The isolation performance of the S-band single-pole single-throw (SPST) monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) switch with two different RF-interconnection approaches, microstrip and grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) lines, are investigated. On-to-off isolation is improved by 5.8 dB with the GCPW design compared with the microstrip design and additional improvement of 6.9dB is obtained with the coplanar wire-bond interconnection (CWBI) at 3.4 GHz. The measured insertion loss and third-order inter-modulation distortion (IMD3) are less than 2.43 dB over 2.5 CHz $\sim$ 4 GHz and greater than 64 dBc.

  • Vehicular communications have been receiving much attention in intelligent transport systems (ITS) by combining communication technology with automobile industries. In general, vehicular communications can be used for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication by adopting IEEE802.11p/1609 standard which is commonly known as wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE). WAVE system transmits signal in 5.9GHz frequency band with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling. In this paper, we consider physical layer issues in vehicular communications. We first overview the physical (PHY) layer of WAVE standard and properties of 5.9GHz signals, and then physical layer issues to provide reliable communication link are discussed.

  • When the national disaster accident is occurred, it is difficult to maintain the mutual cooperation systems. In order to solve the problems, the construction of the national unified command wireless network is necessary. In this paper, the specified state of the characteristic frequency of the digital TRS wireless network constructed recently is investigated and analyzed. Through the analysis, the problems of the construction of the national unified command wireless network are grasped. To solve the problem, it is proposed that the digital TRS wireless network is connected with the satellite communication network, and connected with the existing wireless network, LMR. In the concretely it is proposed that the natural unified wireless network should be proceeded step by step. At first, for 2 years the existing networks of the Fire Fighting Agency, the Police, the Forest Service and so on must be utilized and prepared to link with TRS. The second, for 2 years it is carried forward a scheme to maintain the properties of the agencies concerned. Further, it must be prepared to connect with satellite network. At third, for 2 years all agencies concerned with the fire fighting and the disaster prevention must be unified, and the systems have to be promoted for the p1an of linkage of TRS network and the existing network. Next the agencies concerned have to be unified and the authority has to be intensified. When a disaster is occurred, the National Emergency Management Agency has to play a central role. In a local area it has to be given the Fire Fighting Agency an authority and a duty to get ready for each emergency situation.

  • High-efficiency switched-mode circuits such as the class-E amplifier are well-known in the MHz frequency range. The class-E amplifier is a type of switching mode amplifier offering very high efficiency approaching 100%. In this paper of the class-E amplifier by using pHEMT device, the design has been done theoretically and experimentally, with simulation by using the harmonic balance method using circuit simulator. The amplifier using microstrip circuit and the pHEMT demonstrate 66% power-added- efficiency (PAE) at 2.4GHz with 17.6dBm of output power.

  • In this paper, we present performance analysis of an IEEE P802.15.3a high rate wireless personal area network transceiver. This physical layer standard uses QOSK as its sub-channel modulation scheme and orthogonal frequency domain modulation (OFDM) for sub-bands. OFDM is used for each sub-band so that multi-path effects are absorbed by equalizer and guard, and fading can be approximately modeled as additive white Gaussian noise. In multi-band ultra-wideband system, DAC quantization error is important noise source since high resolution conversion cannot be used due to high power consumption. Simulation result shows that, to get 640-Mbps throughput, at least 5-bits precision is necessary to maintain bit-error rate under 10$\^$-2/, which can be lowered, with channel coding, to 10$\^$-6/ that is the bit-error rate required by IEEE 802.15 upper protocol layer, in 4-meter LOS fading channel.

  • The wireless electrocardiographic monitoring system(WDMS) is designed to be long term monitoring for the early detection of cardiac disorders. The current version of the WDMS can identify two types of cardiac rhythms in real-time, such as atrial fibrillation(AF) and normal sinus rhythm(NSR), which are very important to track cardiac-rhythm disorders. In this study, we proposed the analysis method to discriminate the characteristics statistically evaluated in both time and frequency domains between AF and NSR using various parameters in the heart rate variability(HRV). And we applied various ECG detection methods (e.g., difference operation method) and compared the results with those of the discrete wavelet transform(DWT) method. From the statistically results, we found that the parameters such as STD RR, STD HR, RMSSD, NN50, pNN50, RR Trian, and TNN(p<0.05) are significantly different between the AF and NSR patients in time domain. On the other hand, the frequency domain analysis results showed a significant difference in VLF power($ms^2$), LF power($ms^2$), HF power($ms^2$), VLF(%), LF(%), and HF(%). In particular, the parameters such as STD RR, RMSSD, NN50, pNN50, VLF power, LF power and HF power were considered as the most useful parameters in both AF and NSR patient groups. Our proposed method can be efficiently applied to early detection of abnormal conditions and prevent the such abnormals from becoming serious.

  • Some blind spots of information were occurring because important information such as school events, employment information, attendance information, and major school schedules were currently communicated through home communication messages only. To address this problem, an e-Board prototype was designed to incorporate P2P-based Internet of Things technology in a wired and wireless network based on a survey of data on smart education based on the Internet of Things. In each classroom, necessary information, such as school events, was received in real time from the classroom and shared in the classroom. They also want to design an e-Board prototype for Internet of Things-based smart education because they are easily accessible to anyone even if they do not know how to use e-Board.

  • In this paper, we present the results of a developed LTE/Wi-Fi-based video transmission system which can be applied in small unmanned aerial vehicles of 25kg or less. The developed video transmission system comprised of airborne datalink terminal, ground datalink terminal, and used LTE and Wi-Fi wireless data communication technologies to transmit videos of resolution higher than HD (720p/30fps, 1080p/30fps) taken by small UAV. The airborne device is designed to efficiently transmit real-time streaming video through the incorporation of H.264 video processing board. Ground tests and evaluation indicated the possibility of the developed system to transmit real-time videos from close distance in regards to non-line-of-sight area.

  • In VANET(Vheicle Ad hoc Network), the researches based on the wireless LAN are conducting and the method based on 802.11a is being adapted in IEEE 802.11p WAVE(Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments). However, wireless LAN which uses a single channel in a competition can cause transmission delays because of a frequent collision and a use of CSMA/CA to avoid competition in VANET requiring a fast access. In this paper, we designed CMMP (Clustering based Multi-channel MAC protocol) adequate to VANET and then confirmed the appropriate channel conditions in a V2V communication on the basis of this protocol. The simulation results showed that a packet collision and a transmission delay by the use of an existing single channel based on the contention decreased more than 60% by CMMP.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the effects of interference from HAPS ground stations to P-MP FWA base station and to P-MP FWA terminal station using more detail parameters such as a new interference model, a realistic HAPS scenario, practical antenna patterns for both the HAPS system and FWA systems. The analysis results show that, in the case of interference from HAPS GSs into a P-MP BS, compatibility of the two systems can be obtained by using a sectored BS antenna with the boresight directed away from the nadir. However, in the case of interference from HAPS GSs into a P-MP TS, the two systems cannot operate effectively in the same band unless the separation distance is guranteed and/or some form of interference mitigation technique is employed such as dynamic channel allocation.
