대마난류 형성에 미치는 계절별 바람의 영향 (Effects of Seasonal Wind Stress on the Formation of the Tsushima Warm Current)

  • 본 연구에서는 순압모델을 이용하여 대마난류(Tsushima Warm Current)의 분기기작 및 계절별 분기위치의 변화에 바람이 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 모델 격자간격은 위도와 경로방향 모두 0.25$^{\circ}$로 하였고 해수표면에 적용한 계절별 바람응력은 Hellerman and Rosenstein(1983)의 바람을 이용하였다. 모델결과에 의하면 대마난류는 북풍계열의 바람이 강한 동계(10월-3월)에는 일론 큐슈 남서쪽 대륙사면에서 쿠로시오로부터 직접 분기되어 형성되며, 하계(4월-9월)에는 대만해협(Taiwan Strait)을 통해 유입된 대만난류가 대마난류의 기원으로 나타난다. 쿠로시오는 동계에 최대 수송량을 가지며 하계에 최소를 보이고, 대만난류(Taiwan Current)의 수송량은 이러한 쿠로시오와 약 160도의 위상차를 갖는다. 대마난류의 수송량 변화는 쿠로시오의 변화와 120$^{\circ}$의 위상차(약 4개월)를 가질 때 잘 일치한다.

Comparative Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Differential Response of Phytohormone Biosynthesis Genes in Glumous Flowers of Cold-Tolerant and Cold-Sensitive Rice Varieties Upon Cold Stress at Booting Stage

  • Low temperature stress is one of the major negative factors affecting vegetative and reproductive growth of rice. To better understand responses of rice plants to low temperature we analyzed transcriptome expression patterns in glumous flower of cold-tolerant japonica rice variety, Stejaree45, and cold-susceptible variety, HR19621-AC6 at booting stage under cold water irrigation. A total of 2,411 probes were differentially expressed by low temperature in glumous flowers of the two varieties. Some important genes involved in hormone biosynthesis showed variety-specific regulation. Expression of GA20ox3 and GA2ox, among the genes involved in GA biosynthesis, was regulated differentially in the two varieties. Among the genes involved in IAA biosynthesis, YUCCA1 and TAA1:1 showed variety-specific regulation. Among the genes involved in cytokinin biosynthsis and signaling, expression of LOG, HK1 and HK3 was significantly down-regulated only in the cold-susceptible variety. Among the genes involved in ABA biosynthesis, NSY and AAO3 were down-regulated only in the cold-tolerant variety. In general, genes involved in GA, IAA and cytokinin biosynthesis responded to cold temperature in such a way that capacity of those bioactive hormones is maintained at relatively higher levels under cold temperature in the cold-tolerant variety, which can help minimize cold stress imposed to developing reproductive organs in the cold-tolerant variety.

대한민국 동하절기 해군 함상복의 착용쾌적성 평가를 통한 디자인 요소 요구성능 분석 (Design Requirements by Evaluating Comfort while Wearing Korean Naval Duty Uniforms for Summer and Winter)

  • The purpose of the present study was to suggest the design requirements for Korean naval duty uniforms by evaluating the physiological and psychological comfort while wearing the uniforms. Two sets of wear trials were conducted with summer uniforms(eight young males) and winter uniforms(seven other young males). The summer wear trial consisted of 10-min rest, 60-min exercise, and 10-min recovery at an air temperature($T_{air} $) of $33^{\circ}C$ and 62%RH, followed by 10-min recovery at a $T_{air} $ of $23^{\circ}C$ and 64%RH(total 90 min). The winter wear trial consisted of 20-min rest at $T_{air} $ $20^{\circ}C$ and 55%RH, 25-min rest, 30-min exercise, and 35-min recovery at a $T_{air} $ of 0oC and 43%RH(total 110 min). Rectal and seven skin temperatures, clothing microclimate, heart rate, oxygen consumption, total sweat rate, and subjective perceptions were measured during the wear trials. By evaluating the experimental results from the wear trials, we extracted the following psycho-physiological design requirements to improve the current Korean naval uniforms: (1) It is important to maintain the skin temperatures within their comfort range, which depends on the body region (higher than $30^{\circ}C$ in winter, but less than $35^{\circ}C$ in summer). (2) In summer, the feet should be protected from the high heat of the ship floor surface. (3) In summer, sweat from the back should be sufficiently absorbed and allowed to dry quickly.

In-transit development of color abnormalities in turkey breast meat during winter season

  • Background: The poultry industry suffers losses from problems as pale, soft and exudative (PSE), and dark, firm and dry (DFD) meat can develop in meat as a result of short- and long-term stress, respectively. These abnormalities are impacted by pre-slaughter animal welfare. Methods: This work evaluated the effects of open vehicle container microclimate, throughout the $38{\pm}10km$ journey from the farm to the slaughterhouse, on commercially turkey transported during the Brazilian winter season. The journey was initiated immediately after water bath in truck fitted with portable Kestrel anemometers to measure air ventilation, relative humidity, temperature and ventilation. Results: The inferior compartments of the middle and rear truck regions showed highest temperature and relative humidity, and lower air ventilation. In addition, the superior compartments of the front truck regions presented lower temperature and wind chill, and highest air ventilation. The breast meat samples from animals located at the inferior compartments of the middle and rear truck regions and subjected to with water bath (WiB) treatment presented highest DFD-like and had lowest PSE-like meat incidence than those from animals located at other compartments within the container. Lower incidence of PSE-like meat was observed in birds without water bath (WoB). Conclusions: Assessment on turkeys transported under Brazilian southern winter conditions revealed that breast meat quality can be affected by relative humidity, air ventilation, temperature, and transport under subtropical conditions promoting color abnormalities and the formation of simultaneously PSE-like and DFD-like meat.

국소한냉자극이 전신 및 국소혈액순환에 미치는 영향 -제 2 보 : 동계 및 하계의 계절변화에 따른 한냉반응- (Cold Pressor Response to Seasonal Variation in Winter and Summer)

  • 국소한냉자극이 전신 및 국소혈액순환에 미치는 영향과 동계에 있어서 한냉에 대한 적응을 관찰하기 위하여 동계 및 하계에 편균연령 21세의 남녀 대학생 각 60명 및 50명을 대상으로 $5^{\circ}C$의 냉수에 일측 손을 담구어 3분간 국소한냉자극을 가하였다. 침수 1, 2, 3분과 회복기 1, 3, 5분에 침수한 측과 침수 반대측에서 평균혈압, 분시심박수, 광전 모세혈관 맥박의 파고, 피부전기저항을 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 국소한냉자극시 혈압은 증가하였고 하계에서 동계보다 더 큰 증가를 보였다. 회복기에 동계는 서서히 대조치로 회복되나 하계에는 대조치보다 유의하게 감소하였다. 분시심박수는 침수시 증가하며 하계에서 동계보다 더 증가하였고 회복기에는 동계 및 하계 모두 대조치보다 감소하였다. 광전 모세혈관 맥박의 파고는 동계에는 침수 및 침수 반대측 모두 감소하였으나 침수한 측에서 더 크게 감소하였으며 이는 침수한 측에 있어서 한냉의 국소효과에 기인한 것으로 보인다. 하계에는 동계보다 작은 감소를 보였으며 회복기에는 더 빠른 회복을 보여 대조치보다 증가하였다. 피부전기저항은 침수시 침수 반대측에서는 감소하나 침수한 측에서는 유의하게 증가하였다가 회복기에 서서히 감소하였다. 침수 반대측의 감소는 동통에 의한 반응이 한냉에 의한 반응에 첨가되어 나타난 것으로 보이며, 침수한 측은 한냉에 의한 국소효과가 크기 때문인 것으로 보인다. 이상으로 $5^{\circ}C$의 국소한냉자극시 전신적 반응은 한냉자극에 의한 동통성 stress에 기인한 반응이 우세한 것으로 생각되며 김 등$^{39)}$의 보고와는 달리 동계 및 하계의 반응의 차이는 계절에 따른 한냉자극에 대한 주관적 감각의 차이에 의한 것으로 동계에서 한냉기후에 의한 국소한냉자극의 적응현상은 나타나지 않는 것으로 사료된다.

Physiological and transcriptome analysis of acclimatory response to cold stress in marine red alga Pyropia yezoensis

  • Red macroalga Pyropia yezoensis is a high valuable cultivated marine crop. Its acclimation to cold stress is especially important for long cultivation period across winter in coasts of warm temperate zone in East Asia. In this study, the response of P. yezoensis thalli to low temperature was analyzed on physiology and transcriptome level, to explore its acclimation mechanism to cold stress. The results showed that the practical photosynthesis activity (indicated by ΦPSII and qP) was depressed and pigment allophycocyanin content was decreased during the cold stress of 48 h. However, the Fv/Fm and non-photochemical quenching increased significantly after 24 h, and the average growth rate of thalli also rebounded from 24 to 48 h, indicating a certain extent of acclimation to cold stress. On transcriptionally, the low temperature promoted the expression of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to carbohydrate metabolism and energy metabolism, while genes related to photosynthetic system were depressed. The increased expression of DEGs involved in ribosomal biogenesis and lipid metabolism which could accelerate protein synthesis and enhance the degree of fatty acid unsaturation, might help P. yezoensis thallus cells to cope with cold stress. Further co-expression network analysis revealed differential expression trends along with stress time, and corresponding hub genes play important roles in the systemic acquired acclimation to cold stress. This study provides basic mechanisms of P. yezoensis acclimation to cold temperature and may aid in exploration of functional genes for genetic breeding of economic macroalgae.

보리의 생육초기 염 스트레스에 따른 생리적 반응과 프로테옴 변화 (Physiological and Proteomic Responses of Barley Seedlings to Salt Stress)

  • 본 연구는 간척지에서 재배가 가능한 내염성 보리 품종육성을 위한 기초정보를 얻고자 겉보리 두 품종을 대상으로 생육 초기 염 스트레스에 따른 생리적 반응과 잎 프로테옴의 발현 양상 변화를 분석한 결과는 아래와 같다. 1. 토양의 염 농도가 증가함에 따라 보리의 건물중은 무처리구에 비해 유의적으로 감소하는 경향이었으며, 상록보리는 무처리구에 비해 건물중 감소가 작았으며, 선우보리는 컸다. 2. 염처리에 따른 잎의 엽록소 함량을 나타내는 SPAD 값은 상록보리가 57.6으로 47.6인 선우보리보다 높았으며, Na+의 함량은 선우보리에서 유의적으로 높았고, K+/Na+의 비율은 상록 보리에서 높은 경향을 보였다. 3. 이차원전기영동에 의하여 염 스트레스에 의한 잎 프로테옴의 발현양상을 분석한 결과 47개 단백질 spot이 발현양의 차이를 나타냈다. 품종별로 발현양이 증가한 단백질 spot은 상록보리와 선우보리에서 각각 17개와 14개로 나타났고, 발현양이 감소한 단백질 spot은 상록보리와 선우보리에서 각각 28개 및 27개로 확인되었다. 4. 염처리에 따른 발현양의 차이를 보이는 18개 단백질을 동정한 결과 ribosomal protein 등 기능과 스트레스와의 관련성이 보고된 10개의 단백질과 ankyrin repeat domain protein 등 스트레스 조건에서의 역할이 명확하지 않은 4개의 단백질 및 Os02g0753300 등 기능 및 스트레스와의 관련성을 알 수 없는 2개의 단백질이 동정되었다.

돌돔(Oplegnathus fasciatus)의 생존, 산소소비 및 생리학적 반응에 미치는 저수온의 영향 (Survival, Oxygen Consumption and Stress Response of Parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus Exposed to Different Lower Temperature)

  • The sudden drop of water temperature in winter is very threatening factor that affects the productivity of farmed fish and the management in aquafarm. In this study, we investigated the effect of low temperature on the survival, oxygen consumption and stress responses of parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus due to acute drop of water temperature. The survival rate of parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus was 5% at 6℃, 95% at 8℃ and 100% at 10℃ on the 4th day of exposure in each experimental temperature. Low-lethal temperature for 4days of parrotfish Oplegnathus fasciatus (4 day-LT50) was 6.99℃ (confidence limit, 6.55-7.42℃). Oxygen consumption rate was significantly decreased with decreasing water temperature. Temperature coefficient (Q10) was found to be 4.0 between 10℃ and 8℃ and 0.39 between 8℃ and 6℃. As a result of investigating the stress response according to the drop in water temperature, the concentration of SOD (Superoxide dismutase), cortisol, glucose, total Ig, AST (Aspartate) and ALT (Alanine aminotransferase) increased with decreasing of water temperature. This study would be useful for the management of temperature about cultured fish.

동작물의 기상재해와 그 대책 (Meteorological Constraints and Countermeasures in Winter Crop Production)

  • Yield loss of wheat and barley due to meteorological constraints has been analyzed in order to get the basic information, which will lead to the counter-measures for dissemination of agricultural technology and administration. These meteorological damages were analyzed on the results of percentage yield loss and mechanism of damage and the aspects of constraints were explained. The annual yield loss of wheat and barley were 21.7% by meteorological stress: Cold damage, 5.9% ; excessive soil moisture, 5.6% ; lodging, 2.9% ; drought, 3.0% ; disease, 4.3% etc. Those damages by the stresses mentioned above and rain damage were analyzed in relation to the growth stages and the degrees of damage. The predispositions and the growth of wheat and barley to those meteorological stress are also discussed. Varietal resistances of wheat and barley to those stresses were indexed and the physiological and morphological characteristics of these resistant cultivars are described. Cultural practices to minimize the damages were also reviewed.
