The inertial coefficient for fluctuating flow through a dominant opening in a building

  • For a building with a dominant windward wall opening, the wind-induced internal pressure response can be described by a second-order non-linear differential equation. However, there are two ill-defined parameters in the governing equation: the inertial coefficient $C_I$ and the loss coefficient $C_L$. Lack of knowledge of these two parameters restricts the practical use of the governing equation. This study was primarily focused on finding an accurate reference value for $C_I$, and the paper presents a systematic investigation of the factors influencing the inertial coefficient for a wind-tunnel model building including: opening configuration and location, wind speed and direction, approaching flow turbulence, the model material, and the installation method. A numerical model was used to simulate the volume deformation under internal pressure, and to predict the bulk modulus of an experimental model. In considering the structural flexibility, an alternative approach was proposed to ensure accurate internal volume distortions, so that similarity of internal pressure responses between model-scale and full-scale building was maintained. The research showed 0.8 to be a reasonable standard value for the inertial coefficient.

파워 효과를 고려한 스마트 무인기의 공력해석

  • 로터의 성능 예측 검증을 위해 tilt rotor aeroacoustic model(TRAM)에 대한 3차원 CFD 해석을 수행하였고 로터 파워 효과에 의한 영향을 분석하기 위해 수치해석을 행하였다. 수치 기법은 multiple reference method(MRF)와 sliding mesh technique을 사용하였다. TRAM 실험치와 비교 결과 정지 비행시에는 수치해석이 실험보다 적은 추력을 예측하였고 전진 비행시에는 실험결과와 매우 유사한 결과를 예측하였다. 로터효과를 고려한 비행체의 양력은 감소하고 항력 및 피칭 모멘트는 거의 변화가 없는 것으로 판단된다.

Wind-induced random vibration of saddle membrane structures: Theoretical and experimental study

  • The random vibration of saddle membrane structures under wind load is studied theoretically and experimentally. First, the nonlinear random vibration differential equations of saddle membrane structures under wind loads are established based on von Karman's large deflection theory, thin shell theory and potential flow theory. The probabilistic density function (PDF) and its corresponding statistical parameters of the displacement response of membrane structure are obtained by using the diffusion process theory and the Fokker Planck Kolmogorov equation method (FPK) to solve the equation. Furthermore, a wind tunnel test is carried out to obtain the displacement time history data of the test model under wind load, and the statistical characteristics of the displacement time history of the prototype model are obtained by similarity theory and probability statistics method. Finally, the rationality of the theoretical model is verified by comparing the experimental model with the theoretical model. The results show that the theoretical model agrees with the experimental model, and the random vibration response can be effectively reduced by increasing the initial pretension force and the rise-span ratio within a certain range. The research methods can provide a theoretical reference for the random vibration of the membrane structure, and also be the foundation of structural reliability of membrane structure based on wind-induced response.

풍동실험을 통한 국화군락의 공기유동 저항 분석 (Analysis for Aerodynamic Resistance of Chrysanthemum Canopy through Wind Tunnel Test)

  • 작물은 복잡한 형상 때문에 CFD모델에서 다공성 매체로 설계된다. 작물이 고려된 CFD 모델 해석을 위해서는 작물군락의 공기저항값을 입력하여야 하며, 이 값은 작물에 따라 달라진다. 본 연구에서는 풍동실험을 통해 국화군락의 공기저항 값을 구하였다. 풍상측에서는 풍속과 재식밀도가 증가할수록 정압이 증가하였다. 풍하측에서는 풍속이 증가할수록 정압이 낮아졌으나 재식밀도의 영향은 크게 받지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 풍속과 재식밀도가 증가할수록 풍상측과 풍하측의 압력차가 커지는 것으로 나타났다. 국화군락의 공기저항값인 항력계수 $C_d$값은 0.22였으며, Fluent 프로그램의 공기저항 계수로 이용한다. CFX 프로그램에서 필요로 하는 다공성 매체의 특성값 $K_Q$는 재식간격 $9{\times}9cm$일 때 2.22, $11{\times}11cm$일 때 1.81, $13{\times}13cm$일 때 1.07이었으며, 이 값을 CFX 프로그램의 quadratic resistance coefficient로 입력한다.

Influence of structure coupling effect on damping coefficient of offshore wind turbine blades

  • The aim of this study was to explore the influence of structure coupling effect on structural damping of blade based on the blade vibration characteristic. For this purpose, the scaled blade model of NREL 5 MW offshore wind turbine was processed and employed in the wind tunnel test to validate the reliability of theoretical and numerical models. The attenuation curves of maximum displacement and the varying curves of equivalent damping coefficient of the blade under the rated condition were respectively compared and analyzed by constructing single blade model and whole machine model. The attenuation law of blade dynamic response was obtained and the structure coupling effect was proved to exert a significant influence on the equivalent damping coefficient. The results indicate that the attenuation trend of the maximum displacement response curve of the single blade varies more obviously with the increase of elastic modulus as compared to that under the structure coupling effect. In contrast to the single blade model, the varying curve of equivalent damping coefficient with the period is relatively steep for the whole machine model. The findings are of great significance to guide the structure design and material selection for wind turbine blades.

Blockage effects on aerodynamics and flutter performance of a streamlined box girder

  • Wind tunnel test is one of the most important means to study the flutter performance of bridges, but there are blockage effects in flutter test due to the size limitation of the wind tunnel. On the other hand, the size of computational domain can be defined by users in the numerical simulation. This paper presents a study on blockage effects of a simplified box girder by computation fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation, the blockage effects on the aerodynamic characteristics and flutter performance of a long-span suspension bridge are studied. The results show that the aerodynamic coefficients and the absolute value of mean pressure coefficient increase with the increase of the blockage ratio. And the aerodynamic coefficients can be corrected by the mean wind speed in the plane of leading edge of model. At each angle of attack, the critical flutter wind speed decreases as the blockage ratio increases, but the difference is that bending-torsion coupled flutter and torsional flutter occur at lower and larger angles of attack respectively. Finally, the correction formula of critical wind speed at 0° angle of attack is given, which can provide reference for wind resistance design of streamlined box girders in practical engineering.

고속철도차량용 팬터그래프의 공력특성 평가를 위한 실모형 풍동시험 (A Real-scale Wind Tunnel Testing on a Pantograph for High-speed Train to Assess the Aerodynamic Characteristics)

  • 본 연구에서는 고속주행 시 팬터그래프에 가해지는 공기역학적 특성을 평가하기 위하여 고속철도차량용 실모형 팬터그래프에 대한 풍동시험을 수행하였다. 시험에 사용된 풍동은 공군사관학교의 중형아음속풍동으로서 폭 3.5m $\times$ 높이 2.45m $\times$ 길이 8.8m의 시험부를 가지며, 시험 모형은 하단의 차체부착용 브라켓에서 50cm의 수직 스트럿을 통해 풍동 바닥면에 지지되어 자유류가 시험부 바닥을 지나면서 성장하는 경계층의 영향을 제거하였다. 시험모델은 표준높이와 최소높이 및 풍동의 시험부를 고려한 최대높이에 대하여 정상주행방향 및 역방향 시의 조건을 바꾸어가며 수행되었다. 각각의 조건에 대해서 팬터그래프가 가선에 미치는 압상력을 측정하였으며, 시험 조건에 따른 압상력의 변화에 대하여 분석하였다.

Application of artificial neural network for determination of wind induced pressures on gable roof

  • Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have the capability to develop functional relationships between input-output patterns obtained from any source. Thus ANN can be conveniently used to develop a generalised relationship from limited and sometimes inconsistent data, and can therefore also be applied to tackle the data obtained from wind tunnel tests on building models with large number of variables. In this paper ANN model has been developed for predicting wind induced pressures in various zones of a Gable Building from limited test data. The procedure is also extended to a case wherein interference effects on a gable roof building by a similar building are studied. It is found that the Artificial Neural Network modelling is seen to predict successfully, the pressure coefficients for any roof slope that has not been covered by the experimental study. It is seen that ANN modelling can lead to a reduction of the wind tunnel testing effort for interference studies to almost half.

종횡비 변화에 따른 사각주형 구조물주위의 풍압계수 결정 (Determination of Wind Pressure Coefficients around Prismatic Structures with Different Aspect Ratios)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the wind pressure coefficients around prismatic structures with different aspect ratios. Air flows around a model of prismatic shape are investigated experimentally in the wind tunnel and simulated using finite volume method. Pressure distributions and the corresponding pressure coefficients are calculated from the experimental and numerical results. The effects of aspect ratios on the pressure coefficients are discussed extensively. The numerical results are compared with those of experiments. The simulated and experimental results for average wind pressure coefficients are considerably lower than those defined in the Korean Architectural Standard Code.

항공기 날개의 공력하중 측정 기법 연구 (A Study on the Measurement of Aerodynamic Load of Aircraft Wing)

  • 본 연구에서는 항공기 날개 표면에서의 공력 하중 분포를 측정하는 풍동 시험 및 모형 설계와 제작에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 모형 날개에는 총 447개의 압력공을 표면에 수직하게 제작하였으며, 날개 내부에 설치한 압력 tube를 통해 모형 내부에 설치된 총 8개의 EPS modules에 연결하여 PSI-8400 system을 사용 압력 분포를 측정하였다. 풍동 시험은 국방과학연구소 아음속풍동을 사용 50m/sec에서 정속모드로 수행하였다. 시험은 하중분포 예측을 위해 받음각과 옆미끄럼각 변위, 플랩 및 외부장착물 설치에 따른 날개에서의 하중분포 측정을 위해 수행하였다. 본 시험 결과로 항공기 날개 구조 최적 설계 자료로의 활용 및 전산유체역학의 결과 검증에 활용 할 수 있을것으로 판단된다.
